Infant and Benadryl

My 8 month old son weighs 16 pounds, 12 ounces and his doctor prescribed 1/2 teaspoon of Benadryl before bedtime. Everything I read says not to do it unless they are a year old. I'm afraid to give him the Benadryl. Has anyone given their child who is under a year old Benadryl?

Recommendations for Allergist

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good allergist around Dublin? When my son was a week old, we discovered he had a dairy and soy intollerances. I am breastfeeding, so I eliminated those from my diet. Now that I'm aware of the various symptoms of food allergies, I believe that he and I both have several food allergies. I want to find a good allergist that can help me identify what I have issues with in the hopes that I can eliminate those items (and help my son as well).

Allergy Medicine for an Almost 4 Year Old?

We are not a family that takes a lot of medicines, I can only remember a handful of times I have even given our son Motrin (I'm not a fan of tylenol.) We recently saw an Allergist at Children's for some testing, and she suggested he start taking a chewable Claritin everyday. That was almost a full month ago, and I have not bought any yet. After really observing him the last month I do agree that he needs something. I am just worried about side effects like being groggy, out of it, sleepy, or just not being himself. His allergist seemed...

Dust Mite Allergies

Hello everyone . . . I was wondering if any of you have children that are highly allergic to dust mites? My 8 yr. old daughter started complaining of breathing difficulties and shortness of breath about a year an a half ago. She is bothered by it all day long, but gets worse when she's active in gym, at recess, or any other physical activity. Most of the time, she just stops the activity for a little while and then continues when she's feeling better. I have taken her to a cardiologist, an ENT, an allergist, a pulmonologist (exercise induced...

Toddler with Milk and Egg Allergy

We just found out that my 2 year old son has a milk and egg allergy. He was diagnosed with EE (Eosinophilic Esophagitis)and GERD. The EE is caused usually from a food allergy- the white blood cells in the esophagas over produce from the food allergy and cause inflamtion in the esophagas. I have never heard of this disease. I am looking for ideas from mom's that have children with same food allergy for suggestions on good snacks, drinks and foods. And where and what do you get when you go out to eat! Thanks

Milk and Dairy Allergy

My Daughter is 21 months old and we just got told she has a milk and dairy allergy. I have no experience on this type of allergy and would like to know actual things that she can eat. Everything I seen in the store had at least one of the ingredients in it that she is not allowed to have. So I am very confused on knowing what she can actually eat without getting sick. Any help would be appreciated.

Nut Allergic Child and Sports

Hi! I have a nut allergic son who has been having severe reactions. Recently, he had a reaction from touching my daughter's new basketball that was handed to her by an assistant at the school. I could only speculate that she may have had some nut product for breakfast and then touched the ball, which my son then touched. So, my question is how do you handle sports activities with a severely nut allergic child? If he plays any sport where he is touching equipment (ball, bat, mat, etc.) that other children are contacting and those other...

Allergic to Cats

We just got confirmation that my step daughter is allergic to cats and my step daughter's mom wants us to get rid of our two cats now. Our cats are three years old and we have had them since they were kittens. My step daughter has had some issues in the past.. we noticed that if she sat there and cuddled with them she would come up with a rash. When we noticed that happening we told her that she can't cuddle with them anymore. Other then that she is fine, she sneezes sometimes but we all sneeze sometimes. So it seems like just them...

Toddler with Seasonal Allergies

My 19 month old is suffering from seasonal allergies. The pollen has been pretty bad in Delaware lately and he is an absolute miserable mess. We tried Benadryl but he became extremely agitated - we suspect from the antihistamine. Our Doc just started him on Singular but that doesn’t seem to be working either. He’s still waking up in the middle of the night crying with a face full of snot and in the morning he has dark circles under his eyes and even more snot. Any suggestions for other things to try to help him out? I don’t...

Allergy or Not?

Recently my hands and feet started to itch something fierce. I thought maybe it was an allergy to something, but it seems to be mostly at night (occasionally in the daytime). I have seen my regular dr., but they haven't been much help, only referring me to a dermatologist. I have done some research on the internet and there are some things that I've read regarding similar symptoms--from high blood pressure, to diabetes, to carpel tunnel syndrome. Just wondering if anyone out there has suffered anything similar or knows someone that has....

Allergic Reaction to Amoxicillan

My daughter had an ear infection and the doctor put her on amoxicillan. I started giving it to her last Sat. and then thurs. afternoon I had realized she had thrown-up and also had red bumps on her stomach and back. I just thought it was from her eating too much the night before and having the ear infection. But now it spread all over her body. Could this be an allergice reaction to the amoxicillan? Has anyone else had this happen to their child? I will be calling the doctor on Monday for sure if the bumps are still there. It's just that...

Insect Bite Reactions

My three year old son has what looks like a pretty severe skin reaction whenever he gets bit by something. He usually gets a good bit of swelling and a welt that can be anywhere from one to three inches in diameter. These reactions don't really seem to bother him - he doesn't scratch or complain of pain unless I press pretty hard on the site. My question is whether anyone else has seen this type of reaction and whether you've done anything about it. I've gotten the advice that his allergies will continue to develop - either becoming...

Getting My Toddler to Take Yucky Medicine

I need help! My two year old is supposed to take Fer-in-sol (iron supplement) because her hemoglobin is a little low. I cannot get her to take it. I tried mixing with some grape juice, as the pharmacist suggested, but I got nowhere. I tried it myself and it tastes terrible. So I'm wondering if anyone out there has some good tips for getting their child to take bad-tasting medicine, such as iron or prednisolone, etc. Thanks!
