My Son got stun by a bee or wasp last night. I pulled the stinger out. He is complaining of pain and His foot is asleep . The area has a white spot where th stinger was .He seems to be a little swollen. I gave Him motrein and put baby oragel on it. What else can I use? I dont want to take Him to the emergency room. Hi, I want to thank everyone for Their great advice. I didnt think I would get so many reponces! I took My son to the Doctor She said that He was not allergic .That because the whole stinger went in His foot that caused so much swelling. He would not walk on His foot and that also kept fluid retention. I gave Him Benadryl allergy medication and bought Benadryl topical crean that helped. It was 1 week before He would walk on His foot. He is fine now. thanks alot everyone! J.
I know you don't want to take him in, but you really should take him to see the doctor. I've never heard of such a reaction and I am allergic to bee and wasp stings. I've also been stung by a scorpion. Definitely give him Benadryl just in case. Do not use Orogel, instead make a paste with baking soda and water and put that on the sting...you can put a bandaid on it to keep the paste on.
Benadryl. If he is having funny sensations in his foot I would call your Pediatrician and just ask if that is serious or not. Oragel won't do anything. Just call your Dr and they should let you know over the phone if there is cause for concern. Benadryl will help with swelling and any itching and if there is an allergic reaction going on.
This is a little after the fact, but I thought that I'd write anyway. Deodorant actually works great after a sting, esp a yellow jacket. If you apply it immeadately, than it cuts the swelling and redness down. My daughter got stung in the face by 3 bees. I used some right away and it didn't swell or itch. Her cheek was only a little red. I would keep some in your purse; you never know when you need it.
If you pulled out a stinger, it was a bee. Keep ice on it to keep the swelling down. This will also reduce the pain. Give your son Benedryl. You can also apply calamine lotion or a banking soda paste to the area to relieve any pain or itching. There is also a topical cream available at any drugstore or supermarket. Keep an eye on the swelling, if it doesn't improve and gets worse, or if your son has a problem breathing, you will need to take him to the doctor.
Definitely the Benadryl. Also, it sounds like an odd reaction. It might not hurt to have a doctor look at it. If it's an allergic reaction, you might need an epipen the next time, but a doctor will only prescribe it if they have evidence of the need, and they can't run a blood test for that allergy. I hope he gets better soon!
My son (15) was stung last week by a yellow jacket, and I called the Dr. and asked what to do. They said to make sure the stinger was out, as you did, give him Benadryl and to make a paste of meat tenderizer and water and apply. Apparently, this will draw out the toxins more effectively than baking soda. The main things they said to watch for were difficulty breathing, swelling in the throat, and signs of infection, especially a red streak. The swelling can last for several days. My son's was still slightly swollen by the 5th day, but had improved. Another thing to watch is if the swelling is still increasing after 48 hours- it should be at least stabilized by then. We have the most amazing ointment called STING EZE. It's in a yellow bottle with green writing. it should be in any pharmacy in the first aid section. It has benzocaine, camphor, and other stuff in it to target the itching, burning, and swelling. It works on bee stings, masquito bites, spider bites, you name it.
We love it.
