Natural Alternatives to Zyrtec?

So, if you have read my other posts, you know about my 6 year old daughters allergies. Her allergist wants her to be taking zyrtec every day from now on. She breaks out in hives every single day. So far she has tested negative (skin tests) for peanuts, and eggs. She skin tested positive for dogs, grass, hazelnuts, and pecans. Also has shown a severe reaction to ibuprofen. She also slightly is hypothyroid (runs in the family) and has some type of auto immune. The dr isn't sure what type of auto immune but they are thinking it's hashimoto's...

ZYRTEC - Is It Safe?

Our pediatrician has suggested Zyrtec for my son's allergies. Anyone heard anything about this medication, or used it themselves? I have heard it works better than other allergy medications, but I have also heard it has detrimental side effects. I hate giving my son medication and like to avoid it as much as possible. Any stories, suggestions, advice, is greatly appreciated. Thanks moms!

Peanut and Egg Allergy

Hi moms, I wrote a little bit ago for help with cutting dairy out of my diet (as a potential cause of my daughter's allergies) so I could continue to nurse my 10 month old twins. All the advice was soooo helpful. In the end cutting out dairy did nothing, in fact she got worse, and when I went back on it there were no changes. I have been feeling like my daughter's doc isn't taking this issue seriously, and when I wanted to test her for allergies he wanted to try more stuff and check in a couple weeks. I can't wait weeks when each day the...

Zyrtec & Breastfeeding

Hi. I'm a mom-to-be, and want to breastfeed when my baby is born. The problem is, I have chronic allergies, and have to take Zyrtec every day. It's the only thing that works for me. I've I don't take it, I get hives and my skin swells- it's not your typical runny eyes, sneazy type of allergies. Nurses, midwives and doctors have told me that Zyrtec will dry-up breast milk. I've asked them if there's an alternative. I really want to breastfeed, and want my baby to have all the benefits of being breastfed. I hope someone out there can help me....

Could I Be Allergic to My Dog?

Please help me ladies! I have battled hives on and off. Last spring was the first episode and I think it was caused by stress. I took Zyrtec and although it basically knocked my out (I was so sleepy and groggy for 24 hours), it took care of the hives. On occasion since then, I have taken it when the itching is unbearable, but the sleepiness really is an inconvenient side effect. Lately, I have had hives on a daily basis (I use dye free soaps and detergents). My legs look horrible due to the itching/scratching. I have started to...

Zyrtec and Behavior

I have a 6 year old daughter who has allergies which seem to crop up this summer. I've given her Zyrtec for the last few weeks and am noticing some horrible behavior changes in her. I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience and if they could be related. She has always been an independent child, but this is a whole new level of bad behavior. I just started to wonder if it could be the Zyrtec. This is her first time on Allergy Meds.

Allergy to Ibuprofen

Last week I had to give my daughter who is 6 some ibuprofen. I do not give any meds to my kids unless it's needed. I have given this to her maybe 4 times in her whole 6 years. The next morning she woke up with swollen lips and cheeks. I took her to the dr. and they said they aren't sure if it's an allergy to ibuprofen or a filler that's in it and so now we have an appointment with an allergist next week to find out what it is exactally. She has never had any kind of allergies, but my son does have severe allergies to medications and even...

Allergic Red Blotches from Amoxicillan

I just took my son to the Urgent Care doctor today. Yesterday afternoon he developed red patches, thinking that they were bug bites I put him to bed. This morning I woke up and he had these red large red blotches on his face, under his arm and along his side a few on his belly and more on his legs (many under his upper thigh region). He's running a low temp (100.4). So the urgent care dr. said it was most likely a reaction to the amoxicillan (day 7 of it was yesterday), and to discontinue it. I am now at home wondering how long do these...

Allergic to Baby?

I've had stress hives off and on (rarely) since 10 years old. I became higlhly allergic to dust mites, pollens, molds and animals with fur after the age of 18. I take alternating doses of zyrtec and claritin. Even with my 13 cats, this allergy med regime works 98% of the time. Since the baby has come home (1.5 months, baby is 2 months), I've had hives spring up at east 2 times a week, if not more. It's mainly hives over and under my breasts, underarms, and lips would swell. The last few times, it was more widespread... crease at...
