My 12 yr old says she has a stomach ache every morning before school. I am not sure what to do. She doesn't seem to not like school or have any problems that would bring on stress related aches. I was trying to determine if it is PMS related, but doesn't seem to be. Most mornings she will not eat any breakfast due to the pain. I have kept her home from school before thinking it was flu related but by afternoon she was feeling fine without throwing up. Does any one have any suggestions on what I should do?

My daughter had a few bumps on her belly and I took her to the Dr last month and she was diagnosed with Molluscum contagiosum. The Dr said it will go away on its own and that the cream that is prescribed for it dries the skin out too much so we have not done anything. She did give us a refereral for a dermotoligist if it is not better by Dec.
I have looked up Molluscum contagiosum online and I have seen some horrible cases. At this point my daughter only has a few bumps, it has not gotten any better or worse, but I do not want to give it an opportunity to get worse.
I have looked up treatment online and found something called ZymaDerm I plan to look into a little further. Does anyone have any advise or recommendations regarding Molluscum contagiosum?
Thank you!

I was wondering if anyone has done this or has any advice for me. I've heard that a lot of times a child will form enough antibodies through the first couple of vaccines to prevent the disease and really does not need any more vaccines for that particular disease after that. the way to check and see if your child is immune is to have a blood test to check "titers" anyone have experience or advice? how can i get this done? any info please! thanks so much!

My daughter, 19 months old, has always been a "once a day" kind of gal, but she hasn't had a bowel movement since the day before yesterday (and she was a little distressed by that one). Today she's been grabbing at her diaper and saying very pitifully "poo poo." When I tell her she needs to get her poo poo out, she says no; when I ask her if her bottom hurts she says yes.
I've tried to give her prune juice and she will not drink it. She detests messiness on her hands and feet so I thought perhaps she doesn't want to feel the mess against her skin in her diaper so we tried sitting on her potty (which she doesn't use yet at all) and even holding her on the toilet so she can "be like sister" but that didn't help, either.
Any suggestions for my baby's poor bottom?

My 4 year old daughter who has never had a UTI before was just diagonsed with one. She had none of the regular symptoms the icthy burning etc. She woke up last Thurs. night in some much pain the Ped. on call at her normal Dr. office told me to take her to the ER. Well one hospital visit that lasted for two days she is now out. Monday she had a follow up exam and her meds had to be changed there was not much improvement in getting rid of the UTI. I have been giving her tons of water and cranberry juice. The juice and water combinded with the meds. usually work for me. My daughter is also looking at getting a sonogram of the kidneys and bladder and a cystogram to see damage this UTI may have caused. Just looking for other moms who went through these tests with their kids how bad were they and also tips to help her get better faster.

Hi there,
Our daughter has a diaper rash, I think from diarrhea that was caused by antibiotics (her fist cold seems to have snowballed). Any suggestions of how to clear it up fast? I'm keeping her clean and using diaper cream, hoping it will help. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it except when I gently wipe her when changing her.
Thanks!

My daughter is 14 months. She had diarrhea and some throwing up the whole week before Easter. No one else in our home had gotten it. She was very weak, had no appetite, or energy. Took her to DR. Friday before Easter and got stool sample kit. She wasn't dehydrated, thankfully, and DR. said it was possible that it was just the flu because sometimes it can last that long. Well, we did 2 days of the 4-day kit, and then she didn't got at all for 2 days. So we thought she was getting better, her appetite and energy came back, but then the diarrhea came back again and she still has it. We finished filling the stool sample kit this last Monday and Tuesday, so now we are waiting for the results to see if there's something else going on. It should take 5 days. Being on the BRAT diet definitely helps, and she drinks plenty of water and gatorade, no dairy. I'm just wondering if any other moms have ever had this same type of experience with your child? I hate the idea of her having some sort of bacteria or parasite. Oh, and to add on top of it all, she's teething her back teeth, and she's so miserable from that too, and she wakes up a lot at night. So unlike her.
I would so appreciate any advice, encouragement or shared experiences.

Hi Moms! I took my 3 year old son to the pediatrician last week for his well-child check-up. He has had excema since he was about 6 weeks old. The doctor gave him a prescription for Elidel. Then, I found out from a friend that Elidel has been linked to cancer! Has anyone heard this or had any experiences with using Elidel on small children. I have not filled the prescription yet and don't plan to if this is true. Also, I know that excema may be caused by a food allergy. I just don't know the best way to do a trial elimination of some foods that cause allergies, eg. milk, gluten, etc. Anyone have any ideas on how to do this? Thank you!

My 4 year old daughter has been waking up several times at night screaming and crying. At first I thought she was having night terrors because it was almost like she was still asleep, but last night she kept saying that her legs hurt. So, now I'm thinking it could be growing pains or cramps. She hasn't injured herself, or been overly active. As a side note, she gets angry and very loud and upset when she is woken up from sleep, and is not easily comforted back to sleep, so these late night episodes affect the whole house. My question is: What can I do to help alleviate the pain and comfort her? Can I do anything proactively to lessen or prevent the pain?

I had posted a few months ago about having breastfeeding troubles. Well, that led me to a speech pathologist/lactation consultant, who suggested a physical therapy consult. The PT said that my son had slight torticollis. I've started treatment to correct this, and now the PT is suggesting using the "helmet" to correct a flat spot on my son's right side. My poor son has had a rough week. He was diagnosed with a double ear infection Friday and has since started antibiotics which have caused diarrhea and a bad yeast infection. We have been giving him acidophilus supplements and feeding him yogurt and everything they say to give him. I've been treating it topically with Lotrimin AF at every diaper change and trying to keep him cool and let air circulate and let him "air dry", though that isn't working well. I'm rinsing wipes and just using lukewarm water to clean him up. My husband called the pedi office Monday and the nurse said there was nothing we could do other than all that. The problem is that it just isn't improving. He's still on the antibiotics till Saturday. I called the pedi office again a couple of hours ago, but haven't received a call back yet. They are usually really good about a quick turn around, so my guess is that they won't be able to give me any other answers. I am sure they must think I'm overreacting because I had to call them yesterday too because he fell and cut and bruised his forehead badly. I have to do something for him. He is in so much pain in his diaper area. He can't sleep. Diaper changes are near impossible; he does everything he can to get away while screaming hysterically. I plan on begging for some diflucan or something like that for him. Does anyone know if they can prescribe that for toddlers? (He's 2 next week.) There has to be something I can do for him. Any other suggestions? Please help!

I am looking for suggestions to help my four month old take longer naps. She will only sleep for 40 mins max(sometimes shorter). I know she is still tired when she wakes up, but she will not go back to sleep and is then tired an hour later. She sleeps fairly well at night- bed around 8pm and up around 7am with one feeding around 2 or 3am.
I have tried darkening her room, a story and rocking routine, letting her fall asleep on her own, letting her fall asleep with me and then putting her down. Nothing seems to matter.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have an 10 1/2 month old little boy. When we went to the doctor for our 9 month checkup he had not gained any weight since his 6th month appointment. The doctor seemed to be a little concerned but assured me it was probably nothing. We went back 4 weeks later and he had only gained 6 ounces. (She had put him on a high fat diet for the 4 weeks. Cheese, h.b. eggs, mashed potatoes etc.) 6 ounces still seemed very little to me considering I've heard they gain about 1 ounce a day. Anybody else have their babies really slow down this early on. I'm a first time mom and have nothing to compare to. Thanks in advance for your help.

I was wondering if anyone has had their baby vaccinated against rotavirus. My pediatrician told us about this vaccine for it, but he said that the first vaccine was taken off the market due to serious side effects. This vaccine, Rotateq has been on the market for about a year and I was wondering if anyone has used it, and if so, had any problems. I have to decide by next month if we are going to do it or not, as they need three doses before age six months. My daughter is not in daycare, but will be going to the nursery at the gym and church on occasion.

I am a first time mom with a 4 month old son, while I was pregnant it never crossed my mind that I needed to look for a pediatrician for my baby. So when my son was born we went ahead and took him to the pediatrician that the hospital referred us to... We are extremely unsatisfied with my baby's pediatrician. She is very careless, never answers any of our questions, she is always in a rush to get out of the room, she also overcharged for two of our visits. I am looking for a pediatrician who is attentive and caring, someone who can provide my son with the proper medical care he needs, someone I can call if I have any questions, short waiting time is always a plus. A mother always wants what is best for their children so who better to ask than another mother. I am looking for a pediatrician within a 10 mile radius, maybe a little bit further. Downey area...THANKS

Hi, everyone. I am looking to replace our pediatrician with one who has more AP ideals (attachment parenting). I am not sure where to start! My 3 year old son does like his doctor, though my 1 year old daughter has made no attachment yet. I am also expecting a baby this winter.
Specifically, I am looking for a pediatrician who supports breastfeeding BEYOND the first 6 weeks (really, that supports extended breastfeeding) and doesn't try to push solids, who is supportive of research-based delaying of solids, and who doesn't want to prescribe antibiotics EVERY time the babies get the sniffles, KWIM? I just feel that our current pedi prescribes antibiotics way too often (my kids are hardly sick) and is not supportive of extended breastfeeding nor delaying solids. She was pushing starting cereal at 4 months, which I don't agree with at all. Niether does the American Academy of Pediatrics, but I know many pedis tend to suggest at 4 months.
Those are my main concerns, though a doctor who is supportive of co sleeping (done correctly) would be great too!
Thanks, mamas. I really don't even know where to begin!

I am looking for a fantastic pediatrician for my daughter because I am not satisfied with her current pedi. While her milestone checkups have been fine, she has been sick and we took her there three times in one month and they just shuttle her through and give meds and we are out the door. Finally we took her to Childrens hospital and they did a chest xray and gave breathing treatment and sent us home with a nebulizer which has made a HUGE difference. I want a pedi who I can really trust and really cares about my daughter. Any suggestions?

My daughter Kacey is 3 and has sores on her scalp. They are almost like pimples with a white head. We went to the doctor last Thursday and he took a culture and sent it off. It showed no growth; therefore not a staph? Anyway, she has been going to the doctor daily to get a shot (stong antibiotic) and also taking an oral one (Aug?). When we go daily for the shot he also "pops" the white heads. Her head is SO sore and it's really depressing when my daughter flinches when I get close to her (she thinks I'm going to touch the sores). Anyway, I have to wash her hair 3X a day and scrub the sores (I hate doing this to her) but we have to keep the sores as clean as possible. He's tried all the scap shampoos and topical fungal creams and they haven't worked. I'm scared that on Monday she will go into the hosptial to be treated for staph via IV.
Basically, has anyone ever heard of this before? The symptoms are red bumps or mounds, some of them form a white head and when popped ooze out pus (Like a piple would). It's not itchy to her and it doesn't cause pain when not being handled. Her head is so sore though from all the popping and scrubbing ; (.
Has anyone heard of this????

She does not wear shoes yet, just the little leather soft ones. I have her 1 year check up this month, i will surely ask the ped. However i was wondering what any moms have to say who have had or heard of the same thing? I am needing a good pediatric dermatologist for my 3 yr old son. I have had no luck with my regular pediatrician. Let me fill you in. Since May my son has had some irritation in his diaper/pull-up area. We have been airing it out...using big boy pants...using A&D ointment, cornstarch, you name it. It got worse and worse. Finally lots of things looking like bite marks (contact dermatitis I'm guessing) popped up all around the immediate area. I took him in to his Doc and he quickly said, "looks like bug bites" gave me a steriod cream and sent me on my way. Went away almost and then came back...got a new cream from him...almost went away again. I finally went in during his sister's 2 month appointment and told him I thought maybe it was yeast (He was on antibiotics alot the last several months for ear infections). He said he didn't have time to look because of the holiday (this was July 3rd), but prescribed me Nystantin. Now after a few days of that day and night, my son woke up today looking like someone dipped his poor privates in scalding water. He is swollen and bright red and it is keeping him up at night and he is having trouble walking. I just don't know what to do, but I don't want to see my doctor again. He didn't even take the time to look at my son again. So I'm probably going to acute kids tonight to see what they say and in the mean time wanted to get the wonderful mom's on here to give me your thoughts as well. Thanks so much in advance. I'm hoping my little boy can start to enjoy his summer soon!

I just had a scare with my 2-1/2-year-old daughter. I was trying to brush her teeth. And as the dentist told me to do, I was having to hold her down on the floor, gently, with my legs holding her arms down. (It is awful, but at 2- 1/2 she still won't cooperate and doesn't brush her teeth well if at all.)She was screaming as always, wiggling, trying to get away and then she wasnt breathing and started turning blue! Immediately I held her up, blew in her face trying to get her to gasp for air and then let her go because she was trying to get away and she wobbled like she was dizzy, fell a little against the cupboard and I caught her. She was hysterical, but she finally caught her breath and then bega saying tearfully, Im scared!
I dont have a clue what happened, but it scared me to death. I dont think that was normal at all!!! She was really unable to breath and turning blue.
I am going to call her dentist in the morning to see what other alternatives I have to doing this. I've also been concerned about her not being able to catch her breath or gasping when crying over other things before, and expressed that to her doctor who said it's something kids do when they cry hard. But it just doesn't seem right. And tonight was NOT AT ALL normal.Has anyone experienced this? Also, any solutions for teeth-brushing at this age?

Our pediatric dentist is Craig Hollander of Pediatric Dentistry of Sunset Hills. He came highly recommended by several of my friends. Last year he was rated the #1 Pediatric Dentist in St. Louis and after one visit we liked him very much. However, recently when I was referring him to a new mom, I explained that the parents are not allowed to go in with the child for the exam. My friend was appalled at this and explained she would never go to such a doctor. My own dentist has the same policy for children at his office. Is this an unusual request from a dentist? Would anyone like to refer this doctor as well?

I have a pediatrician in Bedford but I am kind of frustrated with him as he doesn't really give me any specifics regarding how to and how much to feed my son, going from nursing to cow's milk, etc. My son just turned one and is soooooo not interested in being weaned at the moment! We live close to Baylor and I'd like to find someone in that complex. Also, weaning advice from others that have nursed for a year (or more) would be greatly appreciated! :)
On a side note: I have started making mother's bracelets and other jewelry from home to supplement my SAHM income (which is nil!!). If anyone is interested in more information, please email me at ____@____.com
Thanks Moms!

I also like the idea of possably finding a dr that practices natural med. as well as traditonal (someone that would write a script if needed but would also suggest natural options that are available)

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a Pediatrician in San Francisco that was a little flexible with the vaccination schedule. I am looking to have my child vaccinated, but he will not be in day care so I would like to have the option to stagger the vaccinations a little bit or start at 2 months rather than birth. Thank you for your recommendations!

I need some advice. My son has had a few headaches and some headaches have involved vomiting as well. He was hospitalized on the 20th of June for this because he became dehydrated. They gave him a CT scan of his head which came back normal. While my normal ped pulled some strings to get us in quickly to a neurologist I decided to cancel it because he was doing fine. We also see a pediatric behavior doctor and we both decided that I should go ahead and cancel it because he didn't think it was necessary at this point. He got a headache on July 8th with no vomiting but it quickly went away. Monday, the 14th he began vomiting and complaining of a headache again. He still is complaining of a headache but hasn't vomited in 18 hours. I only can get him to take motrin if I grind it up and put it in his gaterade. He clearly doesn't feel well, I am keeping him hydrated because I don't want to go back to the ER. I need advice should I try to get him back in to see the neorologist?? They are probably going to want to do an invasive test. Since his CT scan came back normal would u see the neorologist anyways. It's pretty far and I don't want him to have unnecessary tests, but at the same time I don't want to miss anything. Please help his appointment was supposed to be for tommorrow, and I am kicking myself for canceling it. What would you do?? I left a message with a nurse to call me back and am impatiently waiting to see what she says. Thanks in advance!
Update: I was unable to get my appointment back for tommorrow but she got me in for Monday with a neurosurgeon, which is who I made the appointment with in the first place just with a different doc. She said he should really see neurology first but we can start here. Meanwhile I am trying to find a neurologist that takes all kids and the one I found so far is booked till January. Hopefully, I can get some answers from the neurosurgery doc. Anyone know about neuorlogists that take all kids?? I don't think he can wait till January, though. Thank goodness he can be seen on Monday even though it's not the "right" doctor but he is specialized in the brain so that's all that matters. I agree that 5 is so young to be getting them, could it be something else?? Some doc's say it's probably a virus, but I don't think I agree. I'll keep you posted, thanks again!

My daughter had a high fever of unknown origin so her doctor placed a bag in her diaper to test for a UTI. She gave us an antibiotic while we waited for the test results. After 4 days of me calling her office I finally got a call back and was told her results were borderline and she needed to be retested. If the results are positve there will be no difference in treatment, and if they are neg they want to take her off the antibiotic. My dilemma is that my daughter cried for 3 hours w/ that bag in her diaper and I don't want to torture her again. Also-by the time we bring her in she will have been on the antibiotic for 8 of the 10 days. My feeling is that it will have already treated the UTI by then and that may effect the test results. Any advice would be appreciated...

My now 4 year old keeps getting rashes. They r all over back, neck, stomach, shoulders, and arms. They r small and very itchy. I've taken my baby to the doc. and he gave her internal medicine. Does anyone know some external medicine that'll stop the itching, make the rashes go away, and remove the marks from her scratching? Any suggestions where the rashes may be from? Her doc. didn't give me any diagnosis either, just medication.

This is my lil guy's only bad cold in 12mths and I am now starting to get concerned about the chest congestion.
He has had a constant runny nose for about 6 weeks now (varies from clear to grenn), started as soon as the top teeth started to cut ( I know they say thats not a sign of teething but its kind of a coincidence) & then he ran a fever 101-102 for about 3 days, but it finally broke on the 3rd day so I didn't take him in & then right before thanksgiving he broke out with this really junky cough..
My DH and I are also recouping from a horrible head cold and chest congestion for the past month too, so I am pretty sure this is just a viral thing. I am constantly using humidifiers, steamy showers, nasal aspirators and saline solution etc. But he won't cough the junk up. I just hear it rattling in the chest. Other than a decreased appetite and being a little sleepy he's in genally in good spirits. Not sleeping too hot, but not really coughing either. I am just concerned with how long the congestion is lasting and that its not being expelled. The other night I noticed he was laboring really hard during his sleep and the motion sensor went off a lot more for brief seconds of not breathing (like they do when their are really young) but during the day he's fine? Maybe its because his nose was all clogged up, I don't know. I thought I'd take him in on Monday to be checked out but don't want to run the risk of picking something else up at the Drs. Croup's going around.
BTW he has his 1 yr ck up on the 8th of Jan should I just wait until then? Just kind of curious what other mom's would do?
Sorry so long winded:(

My husband and I are looking for a female pediatrician who accepts Health Net HMO insurance in Manhattan Beach or the surrounding areas. We live in Culver City and will be delivering at Torrance Memorial, but we'd like a pediatrician who's office is closer to our home. If you don't know if they accept Health Net, I will call and find out. Also, although we would prefer a female, if you have a male pediatrician who you HIGHLY recommend, we might be open to reconsidering. Please let me know if you have any recommendations. Please send the doctor's name, address and phone number. Thank you!

My 2yr old has had a running nose and has been outside off and on. She has been licking around her mouth and under her nose and now her skin is red, chapped, & painful. I have seen other children who have done this, but have never experienced it myself with any of mine. How do I treat this to make it heal and how do you keep a two yr old from licking it and making it worse?

Hello again,
Good thing we don't have to pay for this! As much as I use it.
My son missed all last week of school due to temperature, and a cold. Then last night 10:00 he's throwing up. So he didn't go to school today either. Now that's six days missed. And he still throwing up today. He won't keep anything down. Not water, gingerale, dry toast. Nothing. Over friday and the weekend he was better, eating, normal. Then bam!, throwing up????????
I was just wondering if anyone knows of something, I don't know. Anything that works for you in this type of situation. That might help me get my son better faster and back in school. Previously when he's thrown up like this he's eating by now.
A head cold and stomach bug were going around his school, before he got sick. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

My 18 month old son has roseolla. His twin brother had it a month ago and handled the rash fine, but it seems to be bothering his brother. He couldn't sleep last night and is just crying and seems uncomfortable. I keep asking him if something hurts but either nothing hurts or he won't tell me. He was really clingy and wanting to nurse all the time with the fever, which made sense. But I don't know what is bothering him now. I thought the rash wasn't supposed to bother them - has anyone else had a similar experience?

Okay, so I was changing my daughters diaper about twenty minutes ago, and noticed that she had a really large "hard" spot on her hinny...and there was a head to it that seemed to get larger if i pressed on any of the hard area. He father has had issues with S.T.A.F.F. infections in the past, and recently he told me that he had another out break. The first time I know why he had it, but this time out he hasn't told me...but thats beside the point. Anyway, the first time he had it he passed it onto our daughter...and this time out it looks and feels the exact same as before. I have a call into her doctor to see about getting her in, but I was wondering if anyone knew about anything that i can do to make this any easier on her. i have heard that it is really painful, and today she does not want to sit at all...so if anyone has ANYTHING that might help, I would really appreciate the advise...and, i will be calling my lawyer to see about getting her in my care for the time being...thank you guys!

Our 3 1/2 year old broke his arm near the elbow and is in a full arm cast. The pediatric orthopedist gave us a list of things our son cannot do while in the cast for safety (so he doesn't break his arm again above the cast and need to have surgery). The list includes no running, no sports, no activities where both feet are off the ground (bicycling, play structure etc.).
I was wondering if anyone else has gone through this and has suggestions for entertaining a highly energetic preschooler who's not a good listener (I'm guessing this describes most 3 year olds).
Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello mamas! I'm in need of a good pediatrician in Arlington. My son's 2nd birthday is coming up next month and I need to take him for his regular check up, but I do not care for the pediatrician that he's been seeing. The staff is very short with you and rude and the doctor is in and out in about a minute. I need someone who is more personable and will spend more time with my son. Hey moms
I'm in search of a new Pediatrician in the Arlington Area that accepts United Health Insurance. Someone who is dependable, sweet, and is able to be my daugthers pediatrician throughout her life and won't send in the Nurse Practioner each time you go in.
We have Dr. Sheng right now which I think he's nice but didn't seem kid-friendly and his NP doesn't seem to listen to what I say and only what she says and does is right.
And I would like someone that me and my daughter can have a good relationship and connect well with.
So let the search begin... any suggestions?

I am looking for a new pediatrician for my 2 year old and 4 month old. My husband and I have done extensive research into vaccines and have decided not to vaccinate our children. Our pediatrician knew we were always on the fence and was ok with us holding off but had let us know that if by the time our daughter was two we would need to find another pediatrician. She completely understands where we are coming from and knows the controversy with some of the vaccines but her beliefs are that kids should get vaccinated (although she would continue to treat us if we got the Hib vaccine) and if she made an exception for us then she would for others. We really like each other so it is an amicable parting. She said there was a Dr. Sears in Newport but didn't have his name. The only Dr. Sears I know is the one who wrote the books and he is in San Clemente-way too far for us to go. So if anyone has any referrals it would be most welcome.
