Hi,
I'm looking for referrals for a pediatrician in the Los Gatos/San Jose area, preferably close to Good Samaritan hospital (but not a requirement). I'm looking for a doctor who will spend time with us at our appointments and not just rush through them and has experience dealing with first time parents Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I am 5 weeks from my due date and am now starting the daunting task of find a pediatrician. We are having the baby at Good Samaritan Hosptial and live near there as well. We would like to have a pediatrician in the same area. Our doctor gave us a list but it is just names. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations of pediatricians in that area. Thanks.

My family and I are going to be moving soon and have to find a new pediatrician for my almost-two-year-old daughter. We need a female pediatrician in the Woodland Hills area and I am hoping to get recommendations now so we can choose before we move. Any referrals will be helpful, but particularly if you know the doctor accepts Blue Shield (we don't want to change insurance). Thanks a lot.

I live in Richardson and am about to be a first time mom. I am very discouraged by all my recent pediatrician interviews. I do not agree with the current immunization schedule and would really like to find a pediatrician that is supportive of our decisions, while still giving us information that will keep our son safe. We have not decided what we will do as far as long term care goes, but for at least the first 6 months I dont feel my son should receive any vaccinations. If you have experienced this yourself and have your own alternative vaccination schedule, I would love to know what that is as well. Thanks so much in advance!

One more question... as we move to San Antonio, we are unfortunately leaving behind a great integrated medicine pediatrician who not only practices normal medicine, but also works on a delayed (more spread out) vaccination schedule, and encourages better health through diet (i.e. probiotics, DHA (cod liver oil), etc.) Do any of you know of a pediatrician like this in San Antonio? At a minimum, do you know of someone that is open to the Dr. Sears delayed vaccination schedule where the child still receives all vaccinations, but just not at the normal stacked intervals. Thank you in advance!!!

Dear Moms,
I recently took my 12-year old son to a local peditrician (as a new patient). We moved here from Santa Fe, NM and have not established relationships with any healthcare providers yet. Because I chose not to adhere to the traditional immunization schedule for my son, the doctor we visited is not willing to see us again.
Therefore, I am in search of a peditrician in the DFW metroplex who honors families who have make this choice and who practices alternative medicine.
Since we have no insurance, we would preferably like one who is affordable.
Thanks a million!

I am looking for a pediatritian in the midtown area. I'd be willing to drive a little further for the right person, but it has to be in MO. When I took my 4 mo old to his appt there was a problem with his insurance. When I asked how muh it would be just to pay for the appt and shots they told me $600 for the shots and over 400 for the doctor's time. He is perfectly healthy, so they weren't doing anything special. I really feel like this is wrong, so it's time for a change. I'd appreciate any referrals.

My due date is less than two weeks away, and I haven't chosen a pediatrician yet. Any suggestions for a good doctor here in Alameda? Our insurance is Blue Cross, and pretty flexible.

Hello Mama's,
Well due to some recent events with my current pediatrician I am looking to change to a different doctor. Just to give a little background info, my current pediatrician is always busy. I have not been able to get an appointment the last three times I have called. Two of the times my son had an ear infection and needed urgent medical care. so, I had to end up going to CareNow and get the prescription for antibotics. I called today to make an appointment becuase my son sprained his foot over the weekend and will not bare weight on it and what a surpise, they don't have any openings available! I know the new peditrician will have to be covered under my insurance plan but I'll check if they are covered under plan after I hear your suggestions. TIA!!

Has anyone ever heard of this and what are the long term effects? Luckily, the doc said we caught it very early.

My 21 mos. old daughter has a round, light circle that has appeared on her chest. It is not raised up and it has been around since she was born, just seems to be getting darker. Could this be a birthmark? Also, she seems overly sensitive to temperature and unable to cool herself down. If the bathtub is even lukewarm, she breaks out in a heat rash. Playing outside, even when not hot, she breaks out in a rash, gets clammy skin, and her hair actually sticks to her head in sweat. She also gets very fussy. She does have a heart murmur and I am taking her to the doctor this weekend, just wanted to check if other moms had ever heard of anything like this. Her twin sister doesn't have any of the symptoms. Anyone experienced or heard of anything similar?

Hello everyone. About 8 weeks ago I noticed my son holding his head down after he ate like he was uncomfortable - maybe indigestion or pain? It seems that he's uncomfortable after he eats - leans his head to the side, hold his stomach/chest a bit. He's 3 so I've asked him if it hurts and he kept saying no. Recently (last 2 weeks), he's said yes (nodded) and showed me where - kind of stomach/esophagus area. He has never been a good eater and it's getting worse.
He never has had reflux or anything like that. Has anyone seen this in their kids? I plan to take him to the doctor, but worry that the doctor won't be able to tell much either.
Any suggestions? Thank you!

My 10 y.o. son says it stings when he pees, where the pee comes out. He's uncircumcised. Is it more likely to be a UTI or something like a yeast infection? Everything looks pretty normal. He says it's been going on for a couple months (!) but he never remembered to tell me before. It happens most of the time when he pees, and he sometimes feels like he has to pee right after he's gotten done.

Does anyone have any experience w/ strep & hives they'd like to share? My 2 yr. old was just diagnosed w/ strep. He broke out in bad hives & I took him to the dr. Apparently hives are a symptom of strep, so they did the test. I was just wondering from others' experiences how long the hives lasted, what you did about it, etc. It's weird b/c he's eating & drinking fine, so it appears his throat is not bothering him.

My 4-1/2 year old had her TB test "read" today. I took her to the health clinic rather than her pediatrician because I thought it would be quicker. The nurse said it was negative but also said she felt a little bump, which she measured. She said maybe it is a reaction from the injection (not sure what she meant) and that I might want to have it retested in 6-months. There was a bit of a language barrier and I couldn't tell if she was confident or not. I left feeling uneasy about the whole thing. Should I be worried. Should I have her retested now? In 6-months? Has this happened to anyone?

Hey moms out there in the Coachella Valley. I'm thinking of looking for a new pediatrician. The Doctor is pretty good but her office staff is rude and I'm tired of being treated like a DMV customer every time I take my daughter to see the doc. I'm looking for a pediatrician who isn't totally on the prescription band wagon and who doesn't mind that I am taking more time to vaccinate my daughter. I'd like a doctor to work with me instead of against me. I try to read all I can on vaccinations and there's nothing wrong with taking more time in between vaccines. Today my nurse practitioner told me that I should come back in a week for 2 more vaccines becuause my daughter is 9 months old and she MUST have the hib and pneumoccal two times more before she's 12 months. What? Anyway it's confusing enough to try to make the right choices and make sense of what I read. It would be nice if my doctor's office was at least compassionate towards parents that want to vaccinate on a longer schedule, plus they're rude and who needs that. Please let me know if any of you love your baby's MD's and if you know any that sound like what I'm looking for. Thanks.

My youngest, 20 months old, and has Downs Syndrome recently had an illness that caused him to have thrush. He is a thumb sucker so it is on his thumb and in his mouth. He will only suck the one thumb. The doc has put him on Nystatin (sp?) but the thumb is supposed to stay dry for 2-3 days. Any ideas on how to keep his thumb dry? He is an avid thumb sucker partly because of the Downs he uses his thumb and hand to support himself. He's not supposed to do that so I don't mind him reducing his thumb sucking to comfort himself only.

Hi Moms,
Have been reading your referrals, and have narrowed down our choice to two. Dr. Carolyn Ashworth is one, Dr. Carolyn Evans is another. My daughter has developmental delays, and we hope to find someone who is up-to-date on the latest info when dealing with these issues. I have met both doctors, and they both seem great. Does anyone have experience with either? I was hoping to find one affiliated with Children's Hospital, but I was extremely impressed with Dr. Ashworth in our interview. Since we are leaving a much loved pediatrician with no clue on developmental issues, we want to be extremely careful with our choice. Thanks!

This summer I noticed that my daughter has a large crease on one of her legs and not her other leg. At her most recent check-up the daughter said it could be a sign of Hip Dysplacia but the X-Ray came back normal. Looking back on pictures the crease has been there a long time. I am wondering if anyone else's child has this condition and what might be causing it. Also, she is not "chunky", was just at 20 pounds at her 18 month check up, so I don't think it is just an extra fat fold.

My 9mo daughter was diagnosed with Urinary reflux (grade 3) when she was 6 weeks old. Since, she's been on antibiotics to fight the infections. Just this past week after several days of a very high fever we discovered she had a UTI, despite her daily antibiotic treatment. Her pedi put her on a higher dose of a different antibiotic for the next 10 days and then we have to retest her urine. The fact that she is having a UTI while on her antibiotics is very concerning...basically means her condition is not getting better as we had positively hoped it would. We have her regular 6 mo visit with her urologist in two weeks but I was hoping to hear from others that might have experience with this.
thanks in advance.

Hi Mamas!
I just heard on the news this morning that Merck has a recal on some vaccines. Does anyone know anything about what is happening symptomatically to the kids who have been exposed to the recalled vaccine? I was in the car taking my little girl to school and I didn't hear the whole thing, but apparently the HIB vaccine is one of them and if you have any info, I'd appreciate it. Or if you are one of those on the ball Mamas who has already contacted their child's doctor, I would be interested in hearing what was the recommendation. Thanks In Advance!

I was wondering what other moms think about vaccinations for their babies. I am generally "for" it but have some concerns over some of the ingredients used. Aluminum amounts concern me. What are other thoughts/opinions out there? Anyone in the medical field to shed some light and perhaps remove some of my paranoia? I made the mistake of reading the Vaccine Book and am now worried.

Hello!!
I have a 10 mth old son, and soon it will be time for his first MMR shot--I am terrified b/c I keep reading that soon after this shot, some children begin displaying signs of autism. I have asked my doctor, and he said that it is currently believed that autism is genetic and that vaccines do not cause it, but almost every story that I read, the parents swear that the symptoms were caused by the vaccines. I am very concerned, but just wanted to get some feedback as to what others thought!!
Thanks!!

Hi!
My daughter just turned 18 months and was in the hospital due to a very high fever 104.5, they tested her urine and she was positive for UTI, her pediatrician has recomended to further test the reason of the infection and wants her to have a VCUG done.
Has anybody gone through that? I am really scared because my daughter seems to be traumatized after being so sick and I do not want to put her through a really traumatic experience if it is not neccesary.

Just wondered if anyone out there has a child/children suffering from a bout of this nasty stomach virus. My son is on day 7 with diarrhea and terrible stomach cramping (thank goodness the vomiting only lasted a couple of days). I took him to the Doctor's office today and was told that it is typically lasting 2 weeks!! Yuck! I was also told that the doctor had seen nearly 20 patients just today with the same stuff. Just wanted to compare notes...

Ok warning kind of long! My little girl was sick for about 2 1/2 weeks with a fever from 102-105. We called the MD and even took her to see him twice. We love him and he has been a good MD for both of my kids until now. Anyway, we always have to go thru the MA to get anything done at his office, and it is my understanding that most of the group that he is with work the same way. I called the office at least 5 times in the almost 3 weeks and called the MD on call on a Saturday when her fever went over 105.0 and I was worried. the only test that he did on her was a nasal swab for the flu in week 2. He told me that the flu test was negative and to "give it 5 or 6 more days" because it was probably viral. that was on sunday, on Thursday in the AM her fever was still 105. which is not typical for a viral infection so I called the office and left a message, when the MA called me back she gave me an appt for the next day in the AM. I asked if there was anything sooner, but she said no. In the afternoon my sitter called and her fever was 106 so I took her to the ER. The ER MD said that when a child her age has a fever like that and it last that long without any other sx they usually think that it is a UTI. So he did a cath urine sample and sure enough she had a UTI and becuase it was not caught sooner she also had a kidney infections. We now have to do more testing to make sure she is ok and that kind of thing, but my main question is, do I change MD's or give him another chance? I just cannot decide and like I said he has been a really good MD so far.
Thanks in advance.
