Roseolla in 18 Month Old

My 18 month old son has roseolla. His twin brother had it a month ago and handled the rash fine, but it seems to be bothering his brother. He couldn't sleep last night and is just crying and seems uncomfortable. I keep asking him if something hurts but either nothing hurts or he won't tell me. He was really clingy and wanting to nurse all the time with the fever, which made sense. But I don't know what is bothering him now. I thought the rash wasn't supposed to bother them - has anyone else had a similar experience?

What can I do next?

If this is the rash that appears after a fever, my son had it when he was about 12 months old. He seemed uncomfortable so I put some Aveeno Baby lotion on it, and he was fine after that. It's hard to tell sometimes with a 12 month old, but I think it helped.

My son got it last week. He's 2. The doctor said it's been going around lately. They get a fever for a few days, then when it goes away, the rash appears. Fever can come back, but after about a week it's just fades. I gave him Motrin since he seemed achy and told me his head hurt. He was crabby and clingy. He also told me his tummy hurt, so I fed him really bland food like graham crackers, jello, and 7 up and warm green tea to drink. He'd throw up his favorites like chocolate milk and mac n cheese. I gave him an oatmeal bath and I don't think it did anything to help the rash. Good luck.

I have a 14 month old son and he had roseolla a couple months ago. He never got a bad rash, but he did have a temp of 103 at one point, which led us to the ER. Prior to that he would nurse a lot and was very irritible. After the whole ER thing, when he had been given motrin and ibuprofen to reduce the temp, he was a bit better. He was still nursing only, not much for solids. He felt better in a few days. I hope your situation is over soon. Just keep holding and loving your baby. I think that's all you can do. I am very much a supporter of letting them be attatched as long as possible. Is that what attatchment parenting is? If so, kudos to you for practicing it!!!

Oh, my heart goes out to him. It may, I would imagine it does. My sister had roseola when she was about the same age. She was miserable. I would think a lukewarm epsom salt bath would help. Soothing, not too warm as that will irritate the rash. Just keep nursing him for the comfort too.

Are you sure it's roseolla? Both my boys have had fifth's disease in the past month, and one of the symptoms is the bright red cheek rash that looks like roseolla. The doctor said with fifth's disease they have a sore throat and sometimes achy muscles. It's nothing dangerous, just sounds it. It's just another virus like a cold.

With our 2 year old nighttime was always tough for him. For some reason when we laid him down he would cry and be uncomfortable. A dose of tylenol seemed to do the trick and after that he slept okay. The rashes last for about 3 weeks with fifth's disease.

I hope you find something that helps.
Take care,
B.

theres not much you can do for that. if hes feverish then give him tylenol or motrin for it. if he seems aggitated and itchy give him 1/4-1/2 of childrens benadryl (this will make him groggy and tired (thats how much the dr said to use)). thats what we did for my twin nephews that had it at 6mos. hope this is helpful!

hi,
usually once the fever breaks the rash comes and it clears up not too long after, if you are concerned that it may be something more, trust your mother instincts and call your pediatrician about it.
