S Bralettes for Little Girls

Why?

If the shirt is sheer or gaps (big arm holes), buy a tank top/camisole/little girl's undershirt.

I personally don't like them b/c I think they are too grown up for kindergarteners.

My first thought is why? My second is, if the top is loose-fitting, then people will be able to see that bralette and you wouldn't want that, either. My daughter actually asked to wear one in first grade. I said, "WHY??" She said that a little girl in her class wears one and shows it off and now my daughter wanted one. I told her no and we went out and purchased undershirts for those tops/dresses that need them.

Buy tank tops, Walmart and Target sell inexpensive solid color ones. My almost 12 year old granddaughter started using them like that around that age, she was very embarassed someone might see something and they worked perfectly. Plus she had them to layer or wear on their own so they were always a great investment. Now as a tween we're at Target for bras.

And I so agree with ✿AV✿, bralettes are way too grown up for someone that age.

I would lean more toward tank tops. You can get them for $3 at Wal-mart right now and will be more versatile in the long run.

With the bralettes, if she doesn't have anything to hold it down, it will ride up, defeating the purpose.

At five, tank tops. Don't make her grow up any faster. She is just a little girl.

Definitely go with a tank top/camisole over anything that is a bra/bralette (I have never heard of a bralette before). No 5 year old should be wearing a bra for any reason.

Why?

Get a tank for coverage. I suggest if her tops are so loose you can see into them, then she needs tops in a different size.

I have to say I really don't worry about gaping in loose fitting tops with my 7 year old. she is skinny as a rail.. there is nothing to see..

I know there are weirdos everywhere.. but I don't see how wearing an extra layer of clothing in the hot summer months is a good idea.

I agree with everyone who suggested the tank tops and waiting a bit.

Something to consider, too-- kids will tease her for it. They think their mommies and older sisters wear bras, not kindergarteners.;) Prime teasing target!

My daughter is 5 - and she does have one little bra. I usually put it on her when she wears dresses that my MIL sews for her. They are usually not fitted in the bodice, and I don't like her to be showing her nipples through the sleeve holes. It just bothers me. So my advice is, get one or two, and use them as you would need. They are not "bra's" per se, but more of an extra layer

I agree with those who say she's still a little young. My girls are 9 and 11 and we had good luck with the camisoles at Target. From size XS up to size M they are just plain camis. Once you buy the L there is a little built in shelf-bra. We're only up to size M, but I think we'll be moving into L territory (or even bralettes) soon. My girls just liked these tank tops because when they were playing sometimes their shirts would gape in the front (even if they fit correctly). They basically just liked the extra coverage. But they were not developing at age 5, so they didn't need a bralette. Hope all that makes sense. Go check out Target. They have a lot of pretty colors too!

You could get her a couple of sports bra's if you really have loose clothes. I wouldn't want some stranger looking at her whole body while she's playing on the playground....

if she doesn't have boobs i would go with the tank too it will be more comfy.

I think its a good idea. You could also try the little strappy tops they have at Justice (they run small and would probably fit your 5yo). Good luck! Those bra wearing years are coming up fast!

Edit: I suggest the ones from Justice because they are make with the little bralette built in. So if that is what she is wanting, it would work for both the idea of have a bralette and for an undershirt.
