Undershirt Options for 5 Year - Before Training Bras

My daughter is 5 so she is too young for training bras (what age does that start anyway???). I usually put undershirts on her, like those camisole-type tank tops. however, with the summer here I was looking for other options because I think that could end up making her too hot in the summer. are there other options that I could use as "undershirts" for her. do they have the camisole tanktops in a short version? or something that is not quite a training bra but is shorter and not as heavy/hot for her to be wearing in the summer?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

my daughter is not developing or anything. I usually put undershirts on in the winter, but not in the summer. I just wondered with her getting a little older if I should do something in the summer as well. I haven't until now and it sounds like most don't at this age so I wont worry about it! :)

Until there's something there to "train", there's no need for a training bra. And at that age (I have a 5 and 6 year old) there's no need for *any* undershirts, unless the top she's wearing is sheer or has a deep neckline or something. Just let her wear her normal tops and she'll be fine :)

why?? she is a little girl. My daughter is 7 ... she is not developed.. she does not need a bra or a training bra or something that trains you for a training bra.. none of the girls in her first grade class wear bras, or any such thing.

I do buy the little undershirts for winter.. only to keep her warmer..

Why does she have to have anything under her shirt? My daughter is 6 and the only time she ever wears anything under her shirts is when she's going to the pool and her swimming suit is on under her clothes. Or when she wants to wear a tshirt and it's cold outside so she wears a plain long sleeved shirt under it.

Why? Is she already developing, or does she have "breasts" from being overweight?
I never used underclothes (besides actual underwear of course) for my kids, unless we were going to the snow. I'd go bra-less all summer if I could get away with it, I sure wouldn't torture my kids with an extra layer in the heat!

There is no need for undershirts or camisoles, under a girl's tops, unless it is see through, or a white color which is sheer, or a thin t-shirt.

It is hot where I am. No one wears undershirts or camisoles, per girls/women, unless it is sheer or see through or a thin material in which you can see through or unless it is a 2-piece top with an under layer to it.

My daughter, since she was younger, I just would teach her, that "white" clothing is something that can be seen, through. Per her "breast" area. Especially if the fabric was thin. It is just common sense. Just like with white colored pants, too. One can see your underwear through it, when the fabric is white/thin, etc. So many girls and women, don't realize that. And then the whole world can see their underwear or whatever, through their clothing.
BUT if the clothing is not sheer or white or thin, then you don't have to wear any "bra" under it or camisole etc.

In the girl's department at Macy's, they have, for Pre-Teen/Teen girls, those training bra things, that simply looks like a "sports bra." That is what you mean. I have seen it and with my daughter. But she is 10. She doesn't even wear camisoles or "training bras" yet, under her clothes. There is no need to, unless she were developing or was wearing a sheer colored shirt.

I was kind of thinking the same thing as SB. My son doesn't wear undershirts, your daughter doesn't really *need* to. Just put her in a cute, light cotton top.

Why does a 5 year old need to cover up her flat chest with an undershirt, or anything? Just let her wear a shirt.

Unless her tops are loose or sheer and you're afraid someone will "see something," there's no need for any undershirt of any sort. If her tops are loose or gap open or she is self-conscious, just use a solid color tank top under them, you can buy them at Target or Walmart.

No undershirt needed at that age...
My dd is 10 and no signs of development...she wears those little tank tops from Justice and loves them...
Let her be unencumbered while she's small...there's plenty of time for covering up when she's older.

Why does she need an undershirt in the summer? I get it for winter months but it doesn't make sense for summer.

Do you have some concern somewhere about her not wearing something under a shirt?

A lot of little girls want to be like mom and wear something like a sports trainer bra, etc. however you don't want to rush her to grow up.

Just communicate with her about her body, changes that will take place eventually, etc and keep talking in order for her to feel comfortable coming to you with anything on her mind.

They grow up too fast!! Enjoy the ride.

My daughter started wearing the little half bralettes when I noticed she was doing cartwheels and showing her body and she was starting to develop. She was about 8 or 9. Until then, she didn't need anything under tshirts. If you feel she is showing, then the little half bralette's are okay, but I wouldn't take her there yet.

My daughter is 9 and no where CLOSE to even needing a camisole. Wait until she starts developing more. There's really nothing to see on most 5 yr olds, so there's nothing to cover up.

My daughter is 9 years old. 5'3", size 9 women shoe and 121lbs. Not skinny. Not chubby. Built like she is 13. She has always been years past what she should look like but still a baby face. She started wearing undershirts at 5 as she started to poke then. (She has hair down there by 5.5). We bough the camo tops with built in bras from justice. She loved them and never got hot. Now my child is a 36 B :( I wanna cry. Going into 5th grade. She's on her way like me. By 8th grade I was a 38 DD

They do make those little half undershirts (I wore them in middle school) but they look a LOT like a training bra to a kid, and I think you're opening a whole new can of worms if you let her think she's wearing a bra.

If she isn't developing breast buds, there's no reason to wear anything under her outer shirt when it's this hot.

If she happens to wear a loose flow-y shirt or dress and there is a real risk of the shoulder falling off or being able to easily see her bare torso through the arm or neck, THEN I'd put a cami on her for the day, or chose another outfit if it's too hot with the second layer.

Enjoy the summer!

Yep, they have them at Target and my 7 year old refused them. She said she would rather wear an undershirt, which she never wears. I am gone by the time she gets up and gets dressed.

My daughter is always hot so she would protest if I tried to get her to wear a shirt under her shirt in the summer. I wasn't always hot but I always hated udnershirts so I never make her (unless it's really cold and we are laying up to go outside).

Until a training bra is needed, I think she's fine like she is.

5 is not "getting older". She doesn't need a training bra until she starts to develop breasts. At 5 she could go toppless still and be fine, just let her wear her shirts without the extra layer.

I don't think she needs an undershirt in the summer. It makes sense in winter when it's cold. When the weather is warm, a five year old doesn't need anything under her shirt. I don't imagine she would until she was at least 9 or 10, if she develops early. In my opinion, you shouldn't start wearing a training bra until junior high, unless you genuinely need one before that. Little girls in elementary school don't need to deal with that stuff yet. Of course, my only daughter is two, so what do I know? :D

I only use an undershirt if it's cold enough to warrant an extra layer. Otherwise it's a single shirt or tank top depending on how hot it is.
Don't need anything to "cover anything" until they start getting breast buds and start showing more. I was around 9 when I started getting breast buds but didn't even start wearing a bra until it was quite obvious that I had breasts, about 6th grade.
Don't worry about anything but a shirt at 5.
