Headband Sores

My 6 year old daughter LOVES headbands and wears one everyday. I noticed where the end of the headband, near her ears has little sores and on one side she's worn a little hair off. I keep telling her to lay off the headbands but she will wear them when I don't help her with her hair or I don't even notice. I've put a little antibiotic on the sores. Do you think adding a little felt or ribbon to the ends of the headbands will help? Or any other ideas? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Try having her wear the ones that go all the way around her head. That should take some of the pressure off and give the spots behind her ears a chance to heal.

good luck to you and yours,

I would buy some moleskin, and put it over the tender spots on her head. (You cut it to fit whatever you need...)

I would tell her she needs to cut back on the headbands too.. Maybe wear one every other day. Take them all, and keep them in your room where she can't reach them. On headband days, you can let her pick the one she wants. Maybe the two of you can get on Pinterest together, and find some cute hairdos to try that don't require headbands. (Or, you can braid ribbons into her hair, to the French-braid headbands, etc.)

Can you style her hair into a headband while it heals like a Dutch braid, French braid or Rope braid.

you can check out Cute Girls Hairstyles on YouTube for how to do them ... SUPER EASY! It's totally easiest when the hair is wet/damp vs. dry.

Ya know those corn pads, well I think they still make them. Well I used to nab some at my grandma's house because they make really good padding for the ends of headbands.

can you get the style that goes all the way around the head. It looks like a headband and a lot of girls/women wear them to workout or wash their face. They usually have their hair in a ponytail and use the wrap around to help with stray away hair.

If you go to amazon you can get some ideas as to what I am talking about. Your idea of ribbon is a good idea too. Most of my 3 year old's headbands have ribbon on the ends.

I just read Christy Lee's post and she found a perfect example (in my opinion).

I remember headbands rubbing like that. I think the felt or ribbon is a great idea. Or see if filing them with a fine grain sandpaper helps. Sometimes the plastic is just sharp.

I would take the headbands away for a bit. It sounds like she likes to get her hair out of her face. I am the same way! She could use the elastic type that go all the way around. Or pony or pigtails.
