R.M.
Wear a hat but take one of those thin nylon sack-like backpacks to shove the hat in while on the ride.
So we are going to Disneyland in a week. I have some troubled hair. I have to use hairspray everyday. I have thin hair below the shoulder and layered with bangs that I normally "glue" with hairspray. I really want to let go and have fun on all the rides. My boys are 14 and 7. The last time we went they were 7 and 2 mos. I didn't go on any of the fast rides because I stayed with the baby so I did my hair as usual, except I did end up with a sunburn on the top of my head. I did go one day with my hair in a baseball cap and I went on a fast roller coaster ride and was told I had to take my hat off. Boy was I embarrased because my hair was sweaty and was just stuck to my head. I am unfortunately not one of those people that can wear a hat for awhile and then take it off and look OK, no not me, I get the worst hat head and just look really stupid.
So my question to all of you is what do you do? Do you wear a hat? Do you have to take it off or can't you just hold it with one hand? Do you wear a visor instead? What else do you do with your hair?
Wear a hat but take one of those thin nylon sack-like backpacks to shove the hat in while on the ride.
People actually do their hair to go to Disneyland?! ;-) I threw mine in a pony & also wore it down. No biggie. You're there to have fun, not be in a beauty contest.
What about a headband? Or those soft headbands that go around your whole head & a ponytail? Or some cute barrettes?
I think you're over thinking this!!
Do you really think anyone on that ride except you even noticed or cared what you hair looked like when you were on it?
I look like hell at amusement parks, so does everyone else, we don't notice others for the same reason they don't notice us, no one cares about anyone but themselves.
So just do what I do, go have fun, don't look in the mirror when you wash your hands unless you want to laugh at yourself. When you get home, then fuss about it.
Whether I wear my hair up or down depends on the heat. I cannot go five minutes in the heat with my hair down. Sometimes, like yesterday, I pull it through a baseball hat. Yesterday it was so hot I twisted the tail up and stuffed it in the hat as well. Sometimes I just wear it down. Regardless I just don't care how I look, who am I trying to impress? Maybe it is age but comfort wins every time.
I have been to many amusement parks, and never saw anyone that looked great! I would just wear it in a way that is the most cool, and protect yourself with a hat. No one is looking, no one cares. This is your excuse to have fun without caring how you look. Don't worry about it!!
Everybody looks terrible once they have spent the day riding the rides at Disney. sweaty, tired and red...
And what do you care about what people think?
I have thinning hair,I mean with at he's of hair missing.. I wear a hat or a cap but if I take off the hat, so hat?
Wear a pony tail with a cap or hat.. Do no let s omthing like this take over your life.
I'm totally like you, thin hair and hats DO NOT mix! I completely understand your "hat hair" thing! For me, I've just done my hair as normal, it gets super flat by lunch time but I just tuck it behind my ears and continue on with my day. One trip I did go on I purposely bought some cute micky ears that were the headband style just to sort of hide my nasty hair a bit. It's Disney so adults can get away with wearing silly hats/headbands:) Plus, the cute headband made for much better looking pics than had I just left my lifeless hair be free:)
If it were me, I would just put my hair up in a ponytail and wear a ball cap. Stick it in your pants or sit on it while you ride. Nobody there will know who you are anyway so who cares? Go and enjoy yourself with your family and make wonderful memories. When you get back home and look at your pictures, then laugh at yourself and say "Did I really look that bad?" I bet you won't even care by then! Have a great time! :)
I would probably wear a bandana. I wear them all summer long. They are way cooler than hats.
I would hate my hair blowing all around and looking stringy so I would just do a full on tight ponytail. I would also put little barrettes in the side so I could keep all the strays in there. Hats make me feel hot and sweaty so I would just wear my hair up with some sunglasses.
My daughter and I went to Disney World 3 wks ago-- it was HOT and HUMID.
First of all, your kids are at GREAT ages for the Disney ! You will have a blast !
It was 95 and humid when we were there. By 3pm, it felt like it was 105 degrees. Because it was sooo hot, I had to decide what to do w/ my hair.
I wore it down the first day (Wishful thinking). It was not pretty ! It was sweaty, flat and frizzy !
The second day...I wore sunglasses, loaded up on sunscreen and wore 1/2 of my hair in a ponytail.
The third day...It was super humid, so, I had to wear a full pony tail.
If you do carry a hat, most of the rides have little storage nets for your belongings.
Get a pretty barette so you can pull the top part back and clasp at the top back of your head so that does not get all munched under a hat. You can add a scrunchy to throw it into a low pony tail if you get hot but the top is still pulled back if you take it down. I always so something with the top most parts of my hair to pull it back and out of my eyes. Or if you want something more stable than a barrette you can pull back the top most part and braid it a little ways down, again if you need to throw it into a pony tail you just grab the back and throw a scruncy in but the top still looks nice.
Do you know how to french braid? You could do one on each side down a little ways to catch everything and keep it down.
If the weather is going to be anything like it is this week it's going to be hot. You're going to sweat in a hat all day. You can look for one of those light weight kind of nylon ones that will help a little with the sweating.
Ponytail and baseball hat.
Honestly though, if you take your hat off just to ride the roller coaster, no one is going to look at your or notice your hair. And if they do, they will realize that you had to take your hat off for the ride and won't think twice about it.
All day in the hot sun... how about one of those hiking style hats with the visor in front and flap in back to protect your face and neck from getting burned?
My hair is thin in back. I can't see it so it usually doesn't bother me but when I look, sigh, it's a bummer isn't it? You can take a small brush and travel size hairspray and make a bathroom stop to redo your hair before going hatless. Or you can take your hat off last minute for the ride and tell you family you'll wring their necks if they take a picture of you with hat hair.
