I was hoping to hear from any moms who have had the Essure procedure. I'm done having children but absolutely don't want to get cut. I considered the Mirena IUD as long term birth control as I'm sick to death of taking the pill. Then I found out about the Essure procedure and am very interested. Based on all my research this seems like the best option for me, but there's nothing like hearing from those who actually have it. I'd love to hear from any of you who have this and what your experience with it has been.

I work in an OB/GYN office and one of our physicians performs this surgery. I have seen the operative photos of those that have had the procedure. It's absolutely amazing to me.

What my physician suggests is that once you have the procedure done, you take birth control as a back up until the scar tissue has enough time to 'cover' the coils. You take birth control for 3 months.

Then 6 months after the procedure he sends patient's for a pelvic sonogram to see that the coils are in place and are completely covered. He asks that the patient's bring the films to him so he is able to visually see his 'work'.

Many women I find are quite interested in this form of sterilization. In my opinion, I'd have this over a complete tubal ligation any day!

Good luck with your decision!

J., I had the procedure done several months ago when it was just beginning to be offered. It was a pretty easy procedure, with very little pain. One of the things they told me then was that the coils can sometimes fall out early on if they are defective...one of mine was. I went back in for my check and it had fallen out. I was then offered another try or a tubal ligation thru the belly button. I chose the latter and had no complications and very little pain from that as well. My dr said the coils had been changed a bit since the early ones and they very rarely have the dislodging problem now. I think it's a pretty safe and effective procedure. Good luck to you! ~L.

I haven't had the procedure. I asked my husband to have a vesectomy. 45 minutes in the doctors office, one stitch and some pain meds for a day and he was done. They have to give a few "samples" after to make sure there are not any swimmers but then you both can be birth control free. Good luck.
