Advice Needed with My Daughter?

My wonderfully talented dd is driving me a little crazy right now over quite a mortifying incident that happened the other day. So anyway, we were attending an invitational meet the other day and DD had just done the most beautiful floor routine with a 9.3 tumbling round-off layout, I was just so happy for her . So her routine was over and she was sitting with her teammates on the sideline laughing her head off and I was quite puzzled as to what was so funny. Next minute while I was recording one of her friends this giant brrrrrrrrrrttttttttttttt erupted through the speakers and everyone just kind of jumped startled. I stair down at my daughter and turns out the announcer had dropped the microphone right near her butt and she thought it would be funny to let a fart while the music was playing . I literally could have died right there, her coach was just shaking her head and to make matters worst she flashed me the biggest grin my way so everybody in the stands new it was my kid that blasted a fart at the meet that day . So we get home and I examined her new $150 velvet leo only to find that its now stained and so far bleach has had little effect. We had a long talk that night about conducting yourself in public but it's hard to get across to an 8 year old that farts are not funny lol. Anyone else have any kind of similar experiences in dealing with your kid embarrassing you?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So my daughter told me she recieved a long lecture at training yesterday from the coach about conducting herself at meets ans not embarrassing the team. I decided that since I was able to clean the stain out mostly I won't need to buy a new leotard but she is being made to wear undies under her Leo to practice until she can learn too be more mature. While she was at practice yesterday with the other girls someone farted in warmup and all the girls started cracking up giggling while I was the other parents so I guess
it's just that age and potty humor.

She has been complaining a little of having stomach pain and gas of late so I will monitor that closely with her diet and make sure she's feeling ok. The underwear doesn't really show so it won't embarrass her and I noticed shes farted a few times at gym heading to the potty so we might need to sit down and have a talk on managing higene.

Do you ever wonder about how Jack Black, Tina Faye, Jim Carey etc. were when they were kids?

Try not to dwell. She will live with the consequence of her fun. If her leotard is stained, oh well, she can use it or earn money to replace it.

Blessings!

1. Farts are funny, but there's a time and place for everything. The time and place is NOT at an invitational meet where you've embarrassed your coaches and team. Consequences are definitely in order.

2. For the leo, buy a bar of Fels Naptha laundry soap. Wet the fabric and rub the bar on the stain until it's well worked into the fabric. Allow to set for 30 minutes and then wash per instructions. I've successfully used this method to remove completely set in stains (washed and dried multiple times) from white fabric.

Let it go. Farts are funny when you're 8. This is for her coach to deal with by sitting her during the next practice or whatever the consequence is for not behaving at a meet. The more attention you give this, the more you reinforce the behavior by rewarding it with your attention.

To an 8 yr old (every 8 yr old), farts ARE funny.
It's fairly universal.
Heck, boy's don't lose interest in farts till they start getting interested in girls (in their teens) and even then some guys never out grow it.

Follow manufacture instructions to remove the stain and/or try taking it to a dry cleaner.
If worse comes to worse the stain will still be there faintly but at 8 yrs old she's going to out grow it fairly quickly anyway so there's no point getting too worked up over it.

Try not to let it get under your skin - it's not like you personally let one rip over a loud speaker and I'm fairly sure no one thinks you condone the poor choice and/or ill timing of the gas attack.
Chalk it up as a great story to relate to the grandkids someday and let it go.

Ultimately, she is the one that had to deal with the repercussions..... her teammates know she is the one that let it rip, as well as almost anyone else that was at that competition.

And... apparently she was having some gastric distress? Farts aren't usually that juicy to let liquid feces through at the same time.....

So basically it was a wet fart? That stained the leotard?

Guess she's not wearing that leotard to another meet again.

I've never had poop stains not come out with basic Oxyclean, soap and water.

Let it go D..

LOL I find that hilarious. Kids will be kids and make poor choices.

Try 1 part blue dawn dish soap, the original kind, and 2 parts hydrogen peroxide. Apply liberally to stained area, and wash as directed.

I've seen this "miracle" cleaner posted all over the internet, and thought I'd try it. I was VERY skeptical, but it got the VERY nasty pit stains out of an OLD shirt, and it cleaned up the cat puke stain on my carpet.

Wow, I would have been mortified and there would have been some consequences.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I never, ever (even at 8 years old) thought that sort of behavior in public was funny whatsoever.

It sounds like her coach may have some consequences. My dd is also a level 8 gymnast....our meets are usually quite serious and uptight...it sounds like the crowd may have appreciated a little lightness.
As far as the leo, I would soak the stain in concentrated liquid detergent, then it may require some type of "scraping" on the fabric to actually get the stain out of the fibers of the fabric (maybe an old toothbrush?)
