Same happens to my little girl, we just stopped breast feeding her and there it was all good. If you want to keep breast feeding the suggestion is put it in the freezer in a bottle, and then thoug it out on the stove and add water.
-good luck
my 7 week old baby boy explodes up and out the back of his diaper almost every time he poos, which is most often when i am breastfeeding him. (i have learned to keep a waterproof pad under him because it often gets all over me.) i need stain remover suggestions. all his clothes have stains of the back unless i treat them 3 times and soak and wash more than once! the thing is that i usually dont have time to deal with the stain right away other than spraying it at the time it happens. sometimes it can take hours or more until i am in a position with time to deal with it. what is the best rememdy you all have found? i have tried a few different diapers and they dont help. is it the onsies being too tight and pushing eveything up?
Well, right now I am using Zout. But, as suggested, the best solution I found is the SUN! If the clothes are still stained after they come out of the dryer I put them in the sun, stain exposed, with a squirt of water of it (or wet from the washer). Gets it out in a little while and its good to go!. Hmmm, I wonder if that will work in the future for big boy pants.... ; )

Hi L.
The best stain remover that I have found is a two-pronged approach.
I have used stain removing soap previously and then had a follow-up with Napi-San in hot water.
Hope this helps!

Zout works better than any other laundry pre-treatment product - especially if you treat, let it sit, re-treat and then wash. My brother works for Dial and has brought it to me for years. If you are doing whites use a little bleach and/or oxyclean as well.
I always used Pampers at this stage to help prevent blowouts and make sure he's in the right size. Their poop is so thin it seems to always find the way out! As far as getting rid of those pesky poo stains.....Shout Advanced Gel has been our lifesaver! You are supposed to spray it on and leave it on for as long as you'd like. That's what I liked about it! So many of the stain rememdies require you to wash before the cleaner dried but who has time for that, if we even remember to do it! :) I have saved many a shirt that was headed for the trash because of old stains that had been repeatedly washed and dried. We even got old purple transmission fluid stains off a light gray shirt that had been previously treated and washed at least a dozen times! It's about $4 for a bottle of it at the grocery store.
Hi! You bring back memories of my son!! He did the very same thing. I kept a small container of mild bleach water in the laundry room, and one with oxy clean water. For the whites, I used the bleach and the colors I used the oxyclean container. Don't use too much bleach because it can weaken the fabric. Launder later as usual. Good luck
I can totally relate! My son (now 3.5 months) had the same problem. If you are exclusively breastfeeding I have good news... the poopy diapers will slow down and not be so explosive soon! I ended up keep a sink with water mixed with baby oxy clean. That way as soon as I took of the messy outfit, I would just throw it in the sink to soak until I had a chance to clean it out. Some really bad ones required a second treatment but I found that worked the best! Good luck.
My baby is 5 years old now, but when we had those incidents I would soak her soiled clothes in water mixed with oxyclean and I would add oxyclean to the wash. The oxyclean seems to work well on stains of the organic nature.
I haven't had time to read any other responses. When this happened to me, I would rinse out the poop and then spray it with shout. Get an old toothbrush to scrub it a little. Usually the stain would be almost gone before I even washed it. I know with a little one it is hard to get to things very fast, but I tried to do this step pretty soon after it happened so the stain wouldn't set in. After I treated it, it might be a day or two until I actually got it washed. That was okay as long as I rinsed out the poop. That is major! I would also recommend moving up a size in the diaper. I always used the target brand diaper and they worked pretty well.
I had the same problem with my daughter who was born in February and what I did was throw the item in a bucket of water so the stain doesn't dry on it then when I had time I would treat it with Sparay and Wash Dual Action. It is a squeeze bottle. Sometime I would then hand wash the area and rinse it if I couldn't run a load of clothes at the time or just throw it back in water once I got the stain out because you can let the Spray and Wash dry on the item as it WILL fade the area that was treated. Hope this helps. Just wait till you get to the orange foods like carrots that's even funner to remove.!!! Hope this works for you.
Hi L.,
Biz is a great stain remover for infant and children's clothes. I lik to let things soak for 15 - 30 minutes before
running things through the wash cycle. I have used Biz for years with great results. It may seem a little expensive but it is truly worth the money.
I dont know what size you are using if you are still using newborn try the size 1. I had two boys and the best diapers I found to use for them was luvs and they are better priced, pampers are good too, but I always preferred luvs for my boys. Also spray and wash has a new kind out it works pretty good it is in a red bottle. Also there is a brand called Zout works great even takes out red clay stains in white baseball pants so it should work for you. When you use it just double rinse the babies clothes to protect his little skin. hopes this helps. Congrats on becoming a mommy it is the greatest gift in the world.
Oxyclean always worked well for me - I had similar issues with my son when he was a baby. I used to keep a bucket of water with oxyclean in it (maybe a 1/2 or even 1/4 scoop per bucket) in my laundry room and add stained items before they had a chance to dry. Then when you're ready to do a load of laundry just pull them out and throw them in the wash (you might even want to try using Spray-n-Wash or something similar just as you're adding it to the washing machine). One thing I learned, though, if you're not going to do laundry for several days, you might want to at least switch out your bucket of water at least every 2 days or it will get stinky!
I always had to use Pampers with my son (for some reason, Huggies and every other off-brand would not do as good of a job keeping everything contained -- maybe because he was so long and skinny??).
Hope this helps!
I used to have the same issue until I switched to cloth diapers. For some reason Disposables don't hold it in and it shoots up the back. There are many brands of clothdiapers that are just as easy as disposables.
As for the stains I lay my baby's clothes and diapers in the sun and the sun acts like a natural bleaching agent, the stain fades and the clothing is as good as new.
I like to spray it immediately with some sort of stain remover then later on put some baking soda on it and scrub with a wet toothbrush. Let this sit for a few hours or more before you wash in washing machine.
100% coconut oil soap. If you can find someone around you who sells handcrafted soap maybe they will have some. I use the bar soap and a small washboard. I have gotten out set in blood stains and my sons' old spit up stains. (My oldest is 6 now, but I decided to go thru the baby stuff and clean it up, don't know why). It wasn't a lot of work, just wet the clothing, rub on the soap, a few passes on the washboard and tossed in the washer.
If you can't find coconut soap, I've heard that fels naptha soap and zote soap also works well, but I haven't tried them.
L. - I bought a small water-tight hamper with a lid and kept a mixture of Oxi-clean powder and Borax in it all day, then threw the clothes which had been soaking all day in the wash at night and made a freahs batch of soak the next morning. Oxi and Borax are both great stain removers and are natural ingredients so they did not bother my daughter's skin. She had a lot of stomach problems and so threw up 5 to 6 times a day and also had chronic constipation so she was on laxative and had crazy poop sometimes.
This worked for us and I hoped it will work for you! Good luck.
Oh, and as far as the diapers go, we used Pampers Swaddlers when she was first born, until about 9 months - they were a little more expensive but fit sooooo well.
I keep a container of Oxiclean mixed with water on top of my washer and when those blowouts happen I immediately place the garment in the container to soak till I have time to wash. I found the spray on stain removers were pretty useless for infant stains. Best wishes and Congrats on your little guy! R. SAHM of 2
Dreft Laundry soap - you can get it at Babies r Us and I believe Fry's Marketplace now.
Best Laundry soap for babies and the terrible stains they make I have ever used.
Take care,
K.
My nephew often had explosions as an infant. I had suggested trying a diaper cover over the disposable diaper to hopefully contain the poo that came out. That way she was just washing the cover and didn't have to worry about getting stains out of his cute clothes, her clothes, stuff, etc. I recommended a decent quality cover that had extra protection in the legs (like a Thirstie cover). She started with one and said that it worked so well that she bought a couple so she wouldn't immediately have to wash. She did say that every once in awhile it still got out of the diaper/cover combo, but most of the time worked perfectly, which was a big improvement. The only concern she did mention is that she just had to check him often to know when to change since she said it was more difficult to tell when he got wet with the cover also on. Good-luck! I hope this helps.
Are you making sure that his diaper is dry before you feed him? Since the chances of him pooping after eating are great, make sure he has room in his diaper! Maybe even trying bigger diapers. I know it's harder from breastfeeding as he will be more loose. Have you tried Huggies Supremes? Or cloth diapers? They now have diaper services that will pick these up and the diapers are velcro. My friend is going to use them and she said they cost the same as disposables.
Also, stain remover that gets anything out is oxyclean baby, have to find the baby one. If the spray doesn't work, you get the powder and soak them for a day or two. Amazing results!
I don't use it anymore as I am completely scared of all the toxins in all my everyday cleaners. I now use only Melaleuca products. I am realizing I don't even have to spray most stuff as their melapower laundry detergent works so good. They have a pre-spot if needed. This is really great plus I know I am helping my children live in a safer less toxic environment. If you would like more info you can go here:

After I had surgery I found something great for stains, and it's not a laundry product. NutriBiotic non-soap sensitive-skin cleanser is GREAT for removing biological stains, even old blood stains. It also worked for lipstick. I wonder if it would be good for old baby poo.
Another idea: To hot water and some natural laundry soap add baking soda and vinegar. As soon as you add the vinegar you will get a fizzy chemical reaction. Add the clothes and wash. This is great for removing odors and chemicals on clothes. I wonder if it would power out baby poo.
Next size diaper up will help with the blowouts. One of the best piece of advice I was given was when I started getting blowouts, it was time to move up to the next size diapers.
Sometimes if your son's schedule is predictable, ie, you know he's not going to poop for the next 2 hrs, use the current diaper size, but if he hasn't and is likely to have a poop soon, bigger diaper.
Hi L.!
I use Zout. It's in a red spray bottle and is also approved by the Queen Of Clean. I rub it in with an old toothbrush and either let it set or put it right in the washer. It hasn't failed me yet! Hope that helps! D. :.)
Liquid dish washing soap!!! It is the best. Apply a good amount on the stain and get a toothbrush or nail brush and rub it around. Rise in cool water and then wash as normal. Never dry until you can tell the stain is gone.
Even if you don't get right to it, at least pour the soap on the clothes as you change him out. Leave a bottle in the bathroom or by the changing table. That way you have access to it when you are actaully thinking/dealing with it.
Both my boys exploded all the time and I think I got most of the stains out of his clothes.
Good luck.
COngrats on your new baby! We had this issue when our twins were about this age, we kept a wash basin next to the diaper changer with a mixture of water, oxi and laundry detergent. We would toss the clothes in as soon as we took them off (spray with shout or something) and then let them soak until we had time to toss into the washer. Also, it sounds like you need to move to a bigger diaper and don't be affraid to snug it up! We used the Kirkland brand, or Huggies, because they tend to have more elastic around the back to help hold it all in!
another good stain product for 'organic' stains like poop (and tomato!) is Dawn dish liquid. Just work it into the area a bit and it really works on most things!
Good luck and congrats!
if you lay them out in the sun the stains will "bleach" out
The absolute best remedy that I have found is called ZOTE Soap, not Zout, but ZOTE. This stuff is amazing baby laundry soap. It is a bar of soap that I just rub on the poo and then scrub together. It works like a charm. I have had several onesies that I forgot that my daughter pooped on, and DAYS later cleaned it out, and it ALL came out. It not only works wonderful on the blowouts, but I have gotten out strawberry stains and red sports drink (this one was with immediate scrubbing) that my older daughter got on her clothes, and my aunt also got out spaghetti sauce (I am pretty sure that this was when she immediately scrubbed the sauce out). So, the only tough thing is to find the soap. I found it at the Wal-Mart near my house (Mesa Riverview), but my aunt didn't see it at the one by her house. If you go it is in the laundry aisle and it is a small pink bar. My grandpa also saw it at a 99 cent store (Country Club and Southern). I haven't seen it anywhere else, but who knows where you could find it! Good luck!
I swear by Quixtar's Prewash Laundry Spray. I have been using it for over 15 years and have had too many results to even list here. We used to be in Amway (now Quixtar) ages ago, and, even tough we have not been "building the business" for years, I have kept my membership active just so I can keep ordering their amazing laundry products a couple of times a year.
I can get you information if you want it, and I promise I will NOT try to get you into a business opportunity or anything. You just have to have a membership to order even if you are not going to build the business, and I think you also need to be referred by an existing member. I could be wrong, but, if not, my number is ####-###-####. Anyone can feel free to use it if they want.
The bottom line is with six kids, I promise I have tried everything and this just works better than anything out there. Oxyclean doesn't even come close, which is why I renewed my membership after leaving the business side of it for years, because I just needed to keep getting access to their laundry products. I hope that helps you out.
I have found that Sol-Mel (a melaleuca product) works great on stains. If intersted in learning more please email me ____@____.com
I use oxy clean on my clothes and many other things. If they are badly stained I put one scoop of oxy clean in the washer and let the clothes soak for about an hour or so. It may take a little longer depending on how bad the stain is. I hope this helps.
I use Out Spot! It is an all-natural pet stain spray, but works wonders on stains I never thought I'd get out. After washing, hang clothes outside with any residual stains in direct sunlight.
Also, experiment with other brands of diapers. Huggies ALWAYS produced blow-outs with my babies. I get packs of them as gifts, but every single one of my kids would have huge messes with them. I was constantly washing clothes, sheets, blankets, etc. NOT worth it.
I found that Shout is the best stain remover.
I have found Totally Toddler Nursery Stain Remover to be the best stain remover I have tried. This will even get out set in blood stains! My son has several nose bleeds a day when the weather is changing so every spring and fall we go through alot of this stuff! As for the diapers, I always had the best results with Pampers and always bought a size bigger. My son was big for his age (always off the growth chart) and I would go by the weight recommendations but as he got closer to the end range we always went up a size earlier to prevent blowouts!
Good luck and congrats on the new baby!
The best solution I found for blow outs was cloth diapers! (We went to them for other reasons but found this exciting benefit!) I use disposables when we go out of town and hate returning to the near constant blow outs he has when in them. (I too have tried different brands.) When we switched to cloth diapers, the blow outs stopped!!
For getting stains out, I found that laying the clothing out in the sun for a while will get rid of stains.
Hi L.,
I love to brag about my Spray-n-Wash story :)
After my first boy was a year old, we had a yard sale, and got rid of most of his baby clothes. A neighbor, who has 7 children, came by with another neighbor who just had her first son to look at what we had. The neighbor with 7 was looking at all my onsies closely, and finally said, "Does your baby not poop, or what? I don't see any stains."
Spray-n-Wash. I sprayed it on right as I threw laundry into the washer (on dry poo, pee, and spit-up stains), cold water, baby detergent, gentle cycle. Nothing fancy.
We can't use bleach in our neighborhood, because we're all on wells, so a little Mrs. Stewart's bluing keeps the whites very white, too.
Don't worry, the poo-explosions will end soon enough {wink}! They happen. Good job, mommy!
T
ZOUT! I have found that it will take out everything. I swear by it.
Good luck.
I wash the stained clothing and then put stain remover on it while still wet. Then I set it in the sun and the sun will bleach out most stains without fading the clothing too much. This also works for set in stains.
I stored my daughter's clothing that was too small for her. The clothing was clean with no stains when I put it away and somehow appeared over time. I exclusively breastfed so it had to have been from breastmilk. Anyway, this method also took those stains out.
I second the oxyclean suggestion. That way you're dealing with the stain as soon as you can with minimal effort. That worked well for us.
Also, consider cloth diapers. A good fitting one will really help contain the blowouts. Start with Fuzzi Bunz, as they have a great reputation for fit on most babies. Good luck!
#1 pamper swaddlers for whatever reason this seems to happen less with those diaps. I know their pricey but it's worth it to save the clothes.
#2 dreft pre-treater, it's the bomb.
You have a ton of great advice, but I have found that Woolite gets stains out the best. Have a bottle next to your sink and as soon as you take his clothes off, rinse and then soak in a sink of woolite.
My mom bought this for me when in high school and I used it to soak my panties-too much information??? Anyway, it always worked and I started buying it when I had children as well.
I found that Zout works well too. If the item is white you can put lemon juice on the stain and lay out in the sun, this also works on spit up stains(from the Queen of Clean book) Good luck.
My youngest daughter could be the tester for any stain product on the market. The best thing I have found is the new Spray N' Wash w/ Resolve. It really does keep me from having to wash the same item over and over and over. You only retreat 1-5 minutes before you wash the item, any longer and you might ruin it.
I would say that the diaper is too small or not on right. I would use oxiclean it works on all organic stains. Soak it and if the stain is really stubborn use a paste of water and oxiclean.
I am a huge fan of the Amway/Quixtar SA8Prewash. That stuff can get pretty much anything out--grease stains, lipstick, and especially baby poo. When my son was an infant he'd have clothes that I thought for sure were ruined and the prewash would get the poo out. It also gets out spit up and pretty much everything else. He is 15 months old and I think I've had to throw out 3 items because of stains.
I order it through my parents, but if you need to get some to try let me know and I can get some ordered for you.
Hi L.,
I have a 3 month old grand baby boy who has done the same thing! Usually with my husband holding him. :o) One time we were in church and he filled my husbands hand up with poo!! It was very funny. But, if this is happening to you all the time then perhaps he needs the next size up diapers or a different brand. My kids like Huggies. As far as the stains go Oxy Clean can do wonders. Just soak them in it for awhile before you wash them. Does your little one have sensitive skin? Oxy Clean won't hurt that. Borax is also good.
Good luck,
L.
I had the same problem w/ my son as well about the same age. I had to make sure that the back of the diaper was up fairly high and we actually went up a size (I think he was about a 2 at that age), but he was about 15 lbs at 3 months. I hated spending the money, but Huggies did have a tighter elasticity in the back and helped reduce the explosions. They went away entirely when he started cereals, unless he was sick.
I used Spray and Wash in the red bottle because it is designed for dried in stains. If I had a second (rarely), I would throw it in the rinse cycle first to remove as much as possible. But I was amazed when I saw the dried-in stain disappear w/ the Spray and Wash after a minute or two. I also would add liquid Oxyclean to every load (I have a front-loader) to catch any stains I forgot to treat, but I would periodically have to use the Spray and Wash after I was folding the clothes and saw a shadow of a stain; the Spray and Wash would get the stains even then!
My babes are older now, but back in the day they had the same issues. We were cloth users and found that either soaking in oxyclean before washing or laying in sun to dry after took care of 99% of any stain they could conjure up. Only after they stopped nursing and things were less than organic/natural did the stains get harder to remove! Good luck!
Congratulations! I know you have many responses - I do not have any good cleaning advise - I just wanted you to know that my 2nd son - now almost 5 months & breastfed - has the same problem. When he does a poo it is literally like an explosion of poo and sometimes soaks his diaper (dry), his clothes and my clothes as well. He still does big poos but not so frequently.
I haven't figured out how to get any of the stains out but as I have all of my older son's stuff (5) I haven't felt bad about not getting the stains out. I will try the ideas in the responses. I just wanted you to know that some kids just do that.
We laugh when he farts, it is actually louder than a grown man's and of course his older brother is very entertained by the whole thing. FYI his older brother was not breastfed (refused) and always had firm poos.
Not sure if you are still using the newborn size diapers but I noticed with my son that when he started getting too big for the diapers, the poo started leaking out more. You might consider switching to the Size 1/2 diapers if you haven't already. As far as the stains go, you can try oxy clean.
L.,
I don't know if I had a great product or was just lucky. I always used Costco brand diapers (Kirkland) and always put my daughter in the next size higher. Yes, she had a saggy butt, but in 2.5 years I only had 2 blowouts.
Good luck
The Dreft Stain Remover works really well but I would also suggest using Luvs diapers. My son had the same problem and it seemed like Luvs go up his back further which helps with the blow outs.
Get the Dirt Devil Spot Scrubber for the carpet. I bought mine at Walmart. It cleans out vomit, colored anything - ink stains, marker stains, etc, poop too and there's no odor either. I squirt the stuff out, scrub it in place, then vacuum it (3 in 1). Works fabulous.
He could be allergic to something your eating while breastfeeding that could be causing the blowouts.
What size diaper is he wearing now. He may need to go up a size.
Hi, I don't know how you feel about using non-baby products, but I use Spray N Wash Dual Power and I love it. I don't even rinse the clothes out, I just treat the stains before I put them in the wash, and they come out no problem. I have even treated a washed in stain with this stuff and it gets it out. I love it. Just be sure not to put it on too long before you wash. My sister in law has had it bleed clothing if it is on to long. Also since you are breastfeeding you can also dry the clothes in the sun and it will help remove the discolorations. I never tried this one, but I have heard that it works I had a friend that tried it. In all honesty I am too lazy to line dry and I don't like the line dry feeling. Breastmilk is all natural and so the sun will just bleach the stains right out. I hope this helps.
Hi L., I know you've gotten tons of advice already, but thought I'd add my two cents. I haven't found the magic diaper; some kids are just exploders. I have tried multiple things with my two kids and what seemed to work the best for me, and what I felt comfortable using for my sensitive babies' skin, is Oxy Clean BABY spray. It comes in a Blue and Pink bottle and it's not in all stores (I bought mine at Babies R Us; it's not at Wal Mart). It works better than the Dreft Baby spray. I would just do a quick rinse in the sink with cold water, spray the stain, rub the outfit together, rinse and then spray again. It sounds like a lot, but only takes a minute and then I'd leave it in the sink until I could run a load or work at it some more if it was a really bad stain. If I did that, the stain most often came out the first time I washed it (I used the Dreft detergent). Found this opinion online as well: http://www.epinions.com/content_403517312644. It's a good thing new babies are so darn cute, huh?! Congratulations!!
Hi L., I have found a great product that really works only before you wash out the stain....I have bought it at Bashas and Food City.
