Abnormal Period After Miscarriage?

Hi Moms,
Has anyone else had an exceptionally long menstrual period after a miscarriage? I had a miscarriage about 6 weeks ago (had an ultrasound afterwards, and the Dr saw no retained products), and got my period again 2 weeks ago. My period lasted for 10 days (much longer than normal), and stopped for 4 days. Now I have some light bleeding again. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
Thanks.

Hi N.,

Those of us in the Chinese medical field know that a "blood stasis" condition often occurs after miscarriage. You probably have not completely shed the lochia. Find a local acupuncturist who also knows herbal medicine (the herbs are very important for these situations), and you will be able to restore hormonal balance in about 3 months.

Hi N.
Yes, I had a miscarriage myself and I went through the same exact thing myself. At first I thought I was losing blood for it seems like it will never stop. Then it did. And it started again till I went back to the hospital just for a checkup. I was told everything was gonna be fine and that to let the body go through the cycle till it's back to normal. I'm sorry about your miscarriage. I know the feeling and its beyond comparable...

Hi there! Please do not stress over this. It is probably completely normal. I, too, had a miscarrigae and had all kinds of weird bleeding on and off for two months and the Dr. reassured me that is was my hormones and my body trying to get back into balance. Having a miscarriage is devstating and stressful enough and you just need time to heal. I wouldn't worry unless it's been going on longer than 3 months. Best of luck to you!

It will take your body a short bit to get back to its normal routine. But, don't forget sometimes after a baby, your periods can change cycles. This may be the same thing. If it gets too out of hand, see the doc.

I'm so sorry about your loss. But what you're experiencing is normal. I had to have a D&C after my miscarriage last year, and for about 3 months I would get my period every 2 weeks uuuuggghhhh. But then started goin gback to normal.

This is normal for some people. I had a similar experience. Good luck.

Hi there - sorry about your loss! Remember your body is reacting to being pregnant and "giving birth". Its shedding out all the lochnia and "excess" just like it does after you give birth. It will go back to normal in a few months. If you are still experiencing "abnormal" periods after 3 months, you should see your doc for reassurrance that its your body trying to get back to normal.

It doesn't sound too strange, but it's been over 10 years for me & I can't remember exactly what my first periods were like after my experiences. It's possible that you can get pregnant again very quickly after a miscarriage and you want to make sure all is well. I think you should probably call your doctor just so you can quiet your mind.

I wish you all the best,
Colleen
