My youngest son is now 11 1/2 months old and we have the hardest time getting him to eat solids. We originally introduced solids when he was six months old, and he liked the baby foods for a while but when he turned about 8 months old he flat out started refusing. I'm now becoming concerned because his 1st birthday is approaching and we can't get him to eat anything. I've tried everything from baby foods, finger foods, and even just crackers or chips, with no luck; he won't even let me put anything in his mouth. I'm open to any suggestions (except to stop nursing!).
I'm pretty sure it's not teething because he has eight teeth already, and they've been in for a while now. I've tried feeding him in new spots, and letting him feed himself, and nothing works.
Nutrionally I'm sure he's fine. He nurses regularly and he weighs about 25-30 lbs.

He does well with 2nd foods, has one tiny tooth that just broke through this week. Any suggestions/ideas/experiences?

My son is 4 months old and has gotten really off track when it comes to his feedings. He used to eat every 4 hours during the day and usually longer at night. Now, he barely goes three hours. I have upped his ounces but he will only eat about 4 ounces then refuses anymore. We have begun him on vegetables once a day in between his bottles. How can I get him back on track and to sleep longer at night? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have advice on HOW and WHEN to wean a baby off the bottle to a sippy cup???? My son just made 1 yr last week. We took him in for his 1 year well baby check up and the ped suggested we wean him off the bottle soon! Her concern was that babies that go longer than a year on a bottle usually end up having issues with their teeth. I can see where she's coming from. BUT... My husband seems to think that I should take the bottle away from my son, COLD TURKEY! I don't think that's the answer though, I feel like I should do it slowly so he doesn't get traumatized. Any advise???

Did you all work through the different cereals before introducing baby food? Right now she's on rice cereal and has been for a few weeks.
How much of the baby food should I expect her to eat in her first sitting? Should I just spoon some into a bowl and feed it at room temp. and keep the rest refridgerated for the next day or feeding?

Well the one good nights sleep I have gotten in the past 8 mos was when I put some cereal in his milk... He slept great! Cant get it to happen again. He pushes it away, but when offered formula he will gobble it down. Last night I tried feeding him his cereal from a spoon before bed, and he wouldnt take it. Thats all he wants before bed is formula only! He is waking up about 4-5 times per night crying. He will go back to sleep on his own after a few minutes, but Im awake and cant go back to sleep. By the time I get back to sleep, he is awake crying again. Im a wreck! I really feel like if I get him a full tummy before bed, it will help - but he wont have anything to do with it
Thanks!

So I feel like when we do switch to whole milk he will not take it cold. But I am hoping that if we switch to a sippie cup he will drink the bottle. I;m just not sure if he will be drinking enough. I also would like to starting taking the pacifier away and I am looking for suggestions. He currently only uses it for sleep time and in the car. Just looking for some suggestions.

Hello Everyone,
I have a 10 month old baby girl who has always been prone to constipation. She is beginning to feed herself foods and I was wondering what foods are more of a natural laxative. I know prunes work wonders and so do the prune/apples juice stuff, but I wanted to keep giving her a variety of foods and not have to rely on prunes.
Thank you so much for all your advice!

I have a few questions... Please Help!
1. I have a 4 month old girl, and she weighed 8lbs 5 ounces when she was born, very healthy. She sometimes takes 3 ounces, 4 ounces or 5 ounces to eat. She was consistent, until she reached month 4. Then she sometimes takes little formula. What changed?
2. The same with sleep, she was sleeping 10-6, since about 8-10 weeks old, now we are up at least one time for a feed and sometimes two. We try everything, but she usaully wants to eat. So we feed her. We are now in the crib too. She wont nap there at all, maybe a few minutes, but will sleep there at night.
3. The other question is that she is very fussy still at night, sometimes between 4pm-8pm. Sometimes, we can play, use the bouncy, but we have to hold her not stop! I thought that got better at 3-4 months and it seems to have gotten worse, not change that we know of. Any help would be apprecitated! Thank You

I took my almost 7 month old to the dr today and was suggested that she see a feeding specialist, not because she's underweight, but because she doesn't really eat solids yet. We've tried carrots, sweet potatoes, banana, applesauce, avocado and the most she'll eat is a small spoonful or two. The dr said some babies just go from nursing to table food and to try graham crackers, saltines, or those little puff crackers made for babies. When we got home we tried graham crackers and she seemed to almost choke (lots of coughing, but she also has a cold so it could've been that). I'm just looking for some ideas of what else to feed her since graham crackers and saltines obviously don't have a lot of nutritional value. Thanks in advance!

Hi Moms - Does anyone know where I can donate unopened formula? I have one large bottle of organic (I think the brand is Similac) and several smaller bottles of Enfamil that the hospital gave me. I have twin 7 month old daughters, both are on the Nestle Good Start formula and the cereals as well as baby food - we have tried them all with no problems so far. But all of a sudden, within the last 2 days they are both really acting up as if they are in pain. They are having regular bowel movements and pass gas and pull their legs up as if they are having stomach pain. There have been no changes in their diet, we have been giving them gas drops regularly with feedings. Any thoughts on what might be going on to cause them to act up all of a sudden? So far no teeth - could it be? Do they go through a growth spurt now? They are both such great sleepers and have been sleeping even more these last couple days. Any thoughts?

I just need some ideas on what to do to help my 4 month take the bottle. I strictly breastfeed him when I'm with him but need him to take a bottle when I go out. He has refused the pacifier since he was a week old. If I stick a pacifier in his mouth, he acts like you are gagging him. It's really funny. He is doing the same thing with a bottle. I have tried 3 different bottles and still the same response. Our babysitter has had such a tough time when we leave. We feel terrible. My other little boy had no problem taking the bottle and would go right back to the breast without any difficulty. It's made it really hard for me to feel comfortable leaving my new little one. Any ideas?

Ok Mamas...here's one for you. My 1 year old DD is recently weaned from breastfeeding and formula (we had to do both). She LOVES textures and flavors, and now completely refuses bland baby food, or even our grownup food ground up. She doesn't even want me to feed her, bless her heart. Wants to feed herself. Miss independence. But, here is the problem, she so far has only 2 bottom teeth. I have figured out soft and nutritious things that she can gum to death for breakfast, dinner and snacks. But what can I feed her for lunch?! And I worry about the fact that I have to steam veggies so long to make them soft enough for her -- I must be cooking all the good stuff out! I desperately need some quick easy ideas from someone who maybe has gone through this. Thanks thanks thanks in advance!!

HI girls!
First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR to you. I don't know any of you personally, but you have become my good friends. All the best to you!
Here is my question: my 5 mo. eats solids 3 times a day + I nurse her every 3-4 hours throught the day. BUT at night she still wakes up crying or whining, usually every 2-2,5 hours! SHE doesn't even eat most of the time, but sort of nibbles, then calms down and falls asleep. She doesn't want the regular binky, spits it out. SHOULD I just let her cry? HOW do I know if she is really hungry?
THANK YOU!

My daughter is 7 months old. She has suffered from constipation almost since the day she was born--poor baby. I breastfed at first, but she was a BIG baby and wasn't getting everything she needed from Mommy (poor milk production). So we went to formula. We have tried milk-based (Similac) and soy-based (Isomil). Nothing changes. She does not eats grains/cereal--rice, barley, oatmeal. She loves her veggies, but doesn't really care for fruits. She won't drink juice (apple, pear, grape...). We were mixing prune juice (we started with other kinds) in with her milk bottle... ie: 3 oz prune juice, 3 oz water, 3 scoops of formula = a 6 oz bottle. Worked great! BUT the doctor said we need to stop the prune juice because it can mess up her digestive system giving it to her this young. So now we are back to DAILY enimas and using the themometer to stimulate and "force" her body to eliminate!!! There HAS to be a better solution for this! Please help. ANY advice is welcome, we are open to trying just about anything.
Thanks in advance ladies,
A.

Hi. My daughter is 11 months old as of today and I am trying to figure out how in the world I'll get her to let go of not only the bottle but the formula entirely. I am going to be having a baby in November and Layla my daughter will be 1 1/2 at that time and I really don't need 2 kids on the bottle at once not to mention the cost of formula. Layla is currently eating 3 to 4 solid meals a day and she refuses to take less than 6 bottles filled 6 ounces. Is that OK for her age? She also wont go to bed without the bottle which I'm working on right now. I little crying and eventually she'll get there (I hope). I can't wait to hear all of your ideas. I'll be open minded and try just about anything. Thank you all so much.

Hello- I asked you guys at 4 months so now I need to know for 6 months. How much do you feed your 6 month old? I have been giving him cereal in the morning and then a bottle. He either has a fruit or veggie at lunch (stage 1) but I dont know if I should do dinner also or not yet. I asked the dr. but he kind of left it up to me. Even though he is a big boy (19 lbs) I dont want to upset his tummy and give him too much at a time. Any examples of your 6 month babies schedule would be appreciated. Also, when do I move to stage 2? His b/ms are also very very hard and I know it is from the food--I dont want to use that syrup stuff-any advice on what to get it looser? Thank you

Hi to all the moms out there! I have a question regarding those "Next Step" formulas. I have heard two differing opinions from friends already & was curious what other moms out there think about them. Do any of your children use them or have used them? Do you think they are a good transition to cow's milk? Do share! My son will be 9 months in June and I would like some real world feedback from moms who have been there and done that.

Ever since my almost 5 month old, formula fed baby started rolling over and scooting, he has started spitting up *quite* a bit. We're talking at least 10-12 times a day. At our pediatrician's advice we switched the formula to Enfamil AR, which has helped a little bit. He is also eating solids three times a day (currently rice cereal and yellow veggies...and LOVING them!), and according to our pediatrician, we are not overfeeding him.
Our pediatrician described him as a 'happy spitter': spits up, but is clearly not bothered in the least by the incident. He doesn't cry, fuss, draw up his legs - in other words, this is not something that is painful for him. In fact, he rather enjoys spitting up then immediately planting his face and arms right into the mess, laughing and smiling, despite holding him upright for 30 minutes after feedings.
I understand that some babies have a little more difficulty with reflux due to their digestive system taking a little longer to mature. Because of this, I'm not interested in medication, especially since he is not bothered by it nor does his mouth/throat show signs of acid inflammation.
So...mothers of 'happy spitters' do you have any advice? I've been told he just has to outgrow it - how much longer might this spitting up last? Until then, we'll keep him dressed in his ugly clothes and a bib, and we'll be armed with wet wipes and burp cloths!

My little boy just got over being sick for a week in where he wouldn't touch any baby food or cereal, just his bottle & sometimes he wouldn't drink all of his 6 oz (nose too stuffy & hard to breathe). We went for his 9 month check up last Friday & he's very tall (29.5 inches) but only 17.8 lbs. The doc assumes its from being sick plus being so active with all the crawling & moving around he's doing. She wants him to gain weight, he should be at least 20 lbs at this time. We go back next month for a weight check up.
He's feeling fine this week & is taking all his bottles & eating his cereal & food at daycare. However, at home, he only wants his bottle. He will not take baby food, cereal or even cheese & turkey meat that he's had before. I try several times with waiting periods in between. If I'm lucky, I can get one spoonful in. And he's not being overfed in daycare. He's otherwise his normal self. Any ideas on getting him to eat? I'm at a loss. Thanks!

Hi I have a 6 month old little girl. I started her on some solids around 4 months. Only good stuff, fresh, organic fruits and veggies...but mostly breast milk. She went from going every other day to every three days and now it's once a week. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort but it still worries me. My Dr. said not to worry, but I was wondering if anyone knew about a natural remedy that I might try.

Was just wondering if anyone had ever had their children on Nutramigen, and, if so, how long they had them on that particular one? Will I have to use it for all 12 months that they say they're supposed to be taking formula? They're most likely not lactose intolerant, they're just pretty fussy and pretty gassy, and I can't really afford this, my husband is the only one bringing income in, and he only makes about $1,000 a month...We're already on WIC, getting 16 cans a month (8 for each of them) and still spending well over $200 per month on it.
Also, are they (at 2 months) too young to have some rice cereal, a very small amount, added to their formula? My mom said it'll help them stay fuller longer.

Help! First time mom with our first cold! Even though I am a medical provider - this is new territory for me! I am sure it is viral, so i just called the pedi for some suggestions. His primary symptom is cough, mild nasal congestion. She told me to get pediacare cough and cold. The only problem with that is it has the same ingredient as "sudafed". I know if I take sudafed I cant sleep for days! I dont want to do this to my child, as it is uncomfortable, and I know he needs his sleep. She also told me to get vicks vapor rub, does this go on the chest or under the nose? LASTLY (sorry!) She said to get nasal saline. I got "little noses" but my nanny freaked out and said this would be too frightening for him.
Also he has a hard time sleeping flat (coughing) but does not sleep soundly when I put him in his swing. I would elevate the head of the bed, but he would end up at the bottom!
Thanks for the help!

We have a 2 week old. She's very hungry, and I've been feeding her formula. Our doctor says I might be overfeeding her. Has anyone else ever heard of that? She shows all the signs of hunger..sucking, putting her fist in her mouth, crying...and a pacifier doesn't work when she's hungry. The doctor told me to only feed her 2.5 ounces every 3 hours. She's hungry and fussy before 3 hours passes, and it's really frustrating to not feed her when she wants to eat. She was 5, 11 at birth and now weighs 6, 11. Any thoughts? One of my friends told me her doctor says you can never overfeed an infant, but obviously my doctor has different ideas. She's such a good baby, but now that I'm not feeding her when she wants to eat, she's very fussy and I'm weary! What would you do?

My daughter is 9 months now and uses a sippy cup extremely well. I want to start putting her formula into it so I can slowly transition her to the cup alone and be able to get ridd of the bottle before she's a year old. Our pediatrician said it would be great if I started it now. Only problem is when I give her formula in there, she know's its bottle time and doesn't want anything to do with the cup. I give her the cup at every meal filled with water, juice , and sometimes a little bit of formula. I don't give up right away. I do for an hour trying different places in the house. Sitting her by different toys ,leaving her alone seems to work for only 1\2 an ounce and then she got frustrated and cried and since it was already almost an hour of trying it, I just gave her a bottle because at least we tried it. I give her 3 9 ounce bottles a day which works great. And we are also introducing table food, which is going quite well. We started all of this not even a week ago. I 'm not trying to rush this but I was wondering if any of you mothers had the same problem or any tips you can give me. They all will greatly be appreciated. Thanks so much!!! N. K

Hi! I was wondering if there are any tips out there for a 7 month old that is now refusing to take his liquid medicine. He turns his head and pushes it away. When I hold him hands he spits the medicine back out, like he is blowing bubbles and laughs. I dont know how much he actually gets in him when he does this, so I dont want to try it again. So any tips or hints would be great!

Hello,
My daughter is 4 months and just this last weekend I started her on rice cerealin her forula (bottle) just at night. She was still waking once a night to eat up until that point. The first two days she slept from 8:30-5:00 a.m which was great. Then the last two days she is still waking once and I'm wondering if I should be feeding her so soon. Last night she went to bed at8:00 p.m. with 6ozs and 4 tsp of rice. Then for some reason she woke up at 11:30? She usually only wakes to eat and goes rite back to bed. So I figured she must be hungry so I fed her 5 ozs and she was off to sleep. Then she woke up again at 3:00 a.m!!! I decided no more bottle at that point and maybe she was overfull???? So I changed her diaper, swaddled her up and walked out of the room. She cried for maybe 2 mins and was sound asleep. My question is how long do you think a bottle w/rice should hold them over for? I no she's capable of sleeping atleast 8 hrs cause she has done it before! She doesn't depend on me to rock her to sleep or anything, and always falls asleep on her own but I'm starting to think she needs a bottle to make herself fall back asleep in the early a.m and is getting over-full in the process??? She usually won't eat much n the mornng so I'm thinking she's petty full? Yes-she is teething she already has her two bottom teeth but I also gave her tylenol to make sure she was in no pain??? Any advice w/rice would be great!

My 3 month old daughter, Marisol, had to have her formula changed due to constapition. But now just about everytime she burps she throws up, and I'm not talking spiting up I mean vomiting. It only seems to ever happen to me even if I don't feed her so I doubt it's the way she is fed. Is there any way to burp her so that she won't vomit. I've tried half way through the bottle but she rarely will finish her bottle then. She only eats 5oz max and goes 2-4 hours between bottles. I'll try just about anything.

Hi, having been trying to give my 9 month old son a sippy cup since he was 6 months. He did it a couple of times when he was 6 months even though it dripped out of his mouth. However, ever since then he doesn't care for a sippy cup. I've tried the ones with a straw and the silicone ones, but he wants nothing to do with it. Most of the time he doesn't want to open his mouth or he just chews or plays with it in his mouth. My first son mastered it at an early age. I know all children are different, but maybe someone can help me with something that I haven't tried yet. Thanks for all the help and suggestions!!!

Hello,
I would like to get my 8 month old son to learn how to use a sippy cup or bottle. Since he has been strictly breastfeed for 8 months, I really haven't been able to leave his side for more than a few hours, which sometimes makes errands difficult. For the past few weeks, I have tried to give him water and juice in both and he seems to be interested in playing with them, but not drinking from them. The doctor said at 6 months to start offering 6 ounces of water and 4 ounces of juice per day, but I have not been successful getting him to take more than a few drops from either. So, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him used to the sippy cup or bottle, and which one is better to teach him? Thanks for the help!

Hi every one, I need advice. My 5 month old spits up ALOT! My doctor says its okay because he is gaining enough weight and doesn't appear to be sick, but my "maternal instinct" doesn't think its healthy. He is drinking about 6 onzes at every feeding and is eating solids 1-2 times a day. when he spits up, it is literally a small puddle and he probably spits up about 3-5 times between feedings. He seems okay and actually smiles after he does it, but it just doesn't seem normal and/or healthy. Does anyone have any similar experiences or advice. Thank you so much.

My son is seven weeks now and he is on nestle good start soy formula and medicine for acid reflex. He spits up alot. We use browns bottles already and they really help with gas. when he was two weeks old he was eating enfilmil lipil w/iron and started projectile vomiting and the doctor changed him to soy but he wasn't on the acid medicine yet. So I really don't know if he was vomiting because of the milk or from the acid reflex? So we tryed a bottle of enfimil gentlease just 2oz to start and he threw up the whole 2oz. So I know he can't have anything from enfimil.I don't know what else to do.I really don't want him to have to drink Soy formula.

I started my son on solids at 4 months. He's now 6 months and still seems to somewhat struggle with fruits and veggies. He does well with the rice cereal but he really doesn't like fruits & veggies. He seems to prefer the veggies more then the fruits. But without forcing there is no way I could get him to eat 1 fruit & 1 veggie each day. He sometimes pushes the food out of his mouth sort of sideways and it kind of concerns me. I just feel like he is somewhat behind and I know develpomental milestones include the ability to eat foods properly. Any thoughts???

Due to getting sick and having to take some prescriptions, I had to suddenly stop breastfeeding. My baby is 6 months old. Now after two days of no breast milk, he seems to be struggling to have a bowel movement. He grunts and cries until he is able to pass the bowel. I've read in my book to be sure he is getting enough solids and liquids, which I think he is. According to the book, I should be able to tell if he is constipated if the feces are small, hard pellet sized...that is not the case. So I'm not sure if his system is just adjusting to the change in diet or what but it is breaking my heart to see him in such discomfort. Anyone have any tips or advice or at least tell me it's normal so I can stop freaking out?

For the past four days, my 4 1/2 month old son has stopped eating his usual six ounces every three hours & is now eating only four ounces every 3 1/2 to 4 hours. I've asked the doctor, and he says as long as he's finishing 2/3 of his bottle, he's fine. He was a six week early premie, so he's small for his age, only 13lbs 7oz. Everyone I ask say that babies thrive & will eat when they're hungry, but I can't help but worry every bottle seems like what he ate when he was a newborn!
Moms, please help settle my nerves.

I am currently breastfeeding my daughter and feeding 1 bottle of formula per day. She also takes water from a sippy cup. She is totally ready to wean and I have no doubt she'll go cold turkey with no issues. It is a battle to get her to breastfeed lately! She has also stolen her big brother's sippy cup from time to time and drank milk from it with no problems (other than my yelling at her brother not to let her!) Anyway, she turns 1 Saturday, but due to scheduling issues, her one year check up isn't till later next week. I am thinking of just switching her to whole milk on her birthday. Is there any reason I should wait until her official check up to do this? Thanks.

Ok, I'm out of town and my husband tells me that he took our daughter who is almost 8 monhts off formula and started her on whole milk (organic). To explain, she has had REALLY bad exemia (SP?). We have tried other formulas, foods, derm dr. with many many different creams, better cleaning products, etc etc etc. We have done it. So I'm a little concerened about her off formula this early. Is it really a big deal? Add vitamin drops? Thing is her face has cleared up within two days. Bottom line. All want to know is if it's ok that she's off formula at 8 months.

This is a long one...Sorry. My DD is 5 month old. At 4 mon. we started on cereal. No issues. Then about 2 weeks ago we went to veggies. Green beans no issue, then carrots...made her constipated. So I stopped the carrots. Last Sat, only gaver her cereal and formula. She spit up a lot all day. Sun, just formula..she spit up a lot. Then Mon, started vomiting. So I did the pedialyte, pedi and formula. She acted as though she did not feel well, and had a temp of 100.(gave Tylenol) Tues she was fine. Ate only formula and did not spit up at all. Wed. started vomiting again (only formula all day) but not every time she ate only in the AM and about 5PM. Last bottle was at 7 then she went to bed no issues. This morning gave her half of her normal bottle, burped her, she threw up again twice. She does not act as though she feels sick though. Any ideas, why this is happening. I am clueless.
UPDATE: I took her to the doctoryesterday. This is what they said....everything looks fine no ear infection, not dehydrated. As long as she keeps pedialyte down for at least 30 minutes, then she should stay hydrated. Feed her in smaller amount more frequently. Her tummy was rumbling, so she expects her to have diarreha within the next couple of days. That would mean it was a stomach bug. But if she doesn't get diarreha then it could be something else. Kinda vague. So I guess I will just wait and see. Last night she did keep her formula down and this morning she hasn't thrown up just a little spit up.

Does anyone have any thoughts on buying Oberweis Milk or Horizon vs. a regular gallon of milk in the grocery store. I have an almost 10 month old son and I'd like to start transitioning him to whole milk. I plan to start by putting 1/2 formula and 1/2 whole milk in his bottle until he is 1. I wanted to start that at 10 months. His Dr. said I should wait until 11 months because of the risk of him getting anemic. Frankly, I am just ready to stop buying so much formula! My son is going to be 1 year next week. He is currently still drinking about 32 oz of formula a day which is 4 bottles a day. He sleeps through the night and gets his bottles at about 7a, 10a, 2p, and 6p. He takes a sippy cup ok, but as soon as I pull out a bottle he wants that and NOTHING else. He has been taking whole milk for about a month from a sippy, will drink that pretty well but still wants his bottle even if he just pigged out at lunch. He gets three meals of table food a day plus one or two snacks during the day. He is doing great gaining weight. I have no idea how to even start getting him off the bottle. SHould I offer him more at meals and then at bottle time offer him a sippy of milk? I'm worried he won't eat well enough during the day and wake up hungry at night. we really struggled with him sleeping through the night and I REALLY don't want to go through waking up with a hungry baby anymore. If is waking up at night during the transition what should I do? Sorry, so many questions but I am a young first time mama who is clueless! any input would be great! He starts a Mom's day out program next month and they discourage bottles in the toddler room so I need to get him off his mid morn and afternoon bottle at least by then! Thanks in advance!

Hello everyone. I have been told by my daughter's daycare that she will be moving over to another class in a few weeks and will not be getting her bottle anymore. She will only get a sippy cup during lunch and regular cup the rest of the day. The problem is my daughter loves her bottle and hates the sippy cup. Plus, she doesn't really like to hold the bottle by herself, too (I guess I spoiled her). I tried switching to the sippy cup cold turkey this past weekend and failed miserably. After one day, all she got was 1oz of formula and she normally can't go beyond the morning without taking down 12oz. So I caved in and gave her the bottle that night. I still try to offer the sippy first, but she basically screams when I bring it close to her.
I was able to wean my son (now 5 yrs old) cold turkey in 1 weekend when he was almost 1 and it wasn't even that rough. What am I doing wrong this time? Could it be that she is still on the pacifier (my son didn't care for it)? Or is it that I am getting soft or my daughter is so much more stubborn than I thought? I would love to just let her decide on her own, but the daycare requires that she learns to use it soon (as most of the others do, too). Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I also thought about giving her soy milk in the sippy because she may be associating formula with bottle. But, the soy milk does not have the required nutrients and fat content that the soy formula gives her right now. Plus, she is allergic to dairy and can't take regular whole milk.

Hello fellow moms -
I would like to get some advice/suggestions on how I can encourage my baby who just turned 1 to take formula more consistently. I have been able to breastfeed him for a year (nursing at bedtime and bottle-fed with breastmilk at daycare while I'm at work). Just about a week ago, I was finally able to reduce the pumping to just once first thing in the morning before 6am, and nursing my baby boy at bedtime around 9ish. He takes bottles fine but would require multiple tries for him to finish his bottle. He never holds his bottle when he drinks the milk but he would be willing to his bottle filled with water when he's very thirsty. We started giving him sippy cups since our pediatrician said we should start weaning him from the bottle, but he would only play with the sippy cups and chew on the spout/the soft silicone part.
I am eager to wean him but I am hesitate to stop pumping/nursing entirely since he is very skinny (only at <3th percentile for weight but over 70% for height) and he is not entirely accepting formula yet. I am afraid if I stop pumping/nursing entirely, if he refuses to drink formula/milk, he would be not meeting the "at least 16oz of milk daily" rule. We have been trying to give him formula for months and he finally takes it more frequently now but it's never predictible.
Our pediatrician also told us we should switch baby to whole milk now that he turns 1. Since he is so skinny, I am not sure if I should have him stay for formula for a few more months. We had our baby boy tried whole milk since last week and it seems like he would take it cold (he didn't take more than a few sips when I warmed it lightly) and would take 2 to 3 oz max, and again, not consistent.
Would appreciate your experience on how I should proceed from here - thanks for reading my long request and responding!

Hi Mommies!
My son will soon turn 1 and I want to wean him from breastmilk to whole milk. I'm ready to move on from pumping! Does anyone have any suggestions on what worked for them? I gave him some Yo-Baby for the first time yesterday and he not only loved it, but it didn't seem to bother his tummy. We thought he was lactose intolerant early on (I couldn't have anything dairy or he would just cry), but he must have outgrown it. How did you wean yours? If you were nursing or pumping, how long did it take you to dry up? What did you do to help with the pain?
Thank you!!

My son is almost 15 months and still VERY attached to his bottle. When he wakes up in the morning, takes a nap and especially at night when he goes down for the night. It has been a VERY rough year and half. He has had a severe case of acid reflux diagnosed when he was 7 wks, It was projectile VERY BAD, Everytime i turned around nothing seem to help not even his meds that was prescribed by his pediatrician until I changed his formula to soy and he also had A LOT of ear infections and had RSV pretty on his First Christmas. We spent his First Christmas in the ER on Christmas Eve and Day, He had a temp of 104.5 It was VERY scarey. He got his tubes in his ears in June and the ENT Specialist told me to continue giving him formula until he got his tubes cause he can't have any dairy for 6 wks prior to surgery and that was after his 1st Bday and when I tried to give him milk and dairy after his tubes, I found out that his allergic to dairy he would throw up projectile. I don't want to do cold turkey. I didn't have to do this with my older son,he threw the bottle and paci at me at 10 months so this is all new to me.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
