Which One? 2008 Acura MDX or 2010 GMC Acadia?

We are expecting child #3. I have previously had an Acura MDX which I dearly loved. Thing stopped on a dime on ice. With a $80/month financed price diff in favor of the Acura, trying to decide between it and a brand new Acadia. They are both really nice. I do like some of the new features of the Acadia like the ease of moving seats (Acura's are very stiff), the 2nd row captain's seats, dual sunroofs, the console, the auto lift hatch. Acura has 3 seats in 2nd row, 2 in back while Acadia has 2 captain in 2nd row, 3 in back. The Acura has the high performance engine with the premium gas req'd but is really fun to drive. Help!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

All good points, thanks ladies. Another question. With the Acadia's captain seats in the 2nd row, I'd still prefer to put the car seat in the 2nd row rather than climbing in the back. Never had this type of seat before; pros, cons? My other two are older, almost 16 and 12, so usually the oldest sits with me unless husband is with us. Also beginning to wonder about the Mazda CX9, but afraid to confuse myself even more. lol

SOOO, the Mazda curiousity got the better of me as I was struggling with the seats in both cars, liking the Acadia's, not liking the Acura's. And could get my uncle's S plan for the Mazda since he retired from Ford. Anyway, test drove the Mazda and seriously LOVED it. Drove like the Acura, lots of pep, many of the luxury features of the Acura for much much less. Loved the seating, very easy to move seats forward, all the way up to give more leg room in 3rd row and 3rd row much roomier than Acura. SOld! Bought it tonight!

ok, just to be the opposite, go with the Acadia........actually, let's look at the things you talked about.....

The seats are easier to move in the Acadia.....how often are you going to move them? How big of a difference is the gas mileage? What benefits do you get from getting a new car versus a used one? Like warranties?

Get a piece of paper, put a line down the middle of it long ways, on one side put Pro's and the other side, put Con's.........do this for each car......what is the good points, what is the bad points........look at what is best for the family, not necessarily what is fun to drive, although I do think that is important................after you do the pro's and con's......get on the internet and look at the ratings and reviews of each car.....

After than pick...............if you are still confused, draw straws!!

Good Luck and congrats on baby #3.......take care.

I strongly prefer the Acura line of vehicles. If you're looking for absolute reliability and fabulous resale value, go for the Acura. In my opinion you cannot go wrong with their cars.

I just test drove a MDX today and expecting Baby # 3 as well. To be honest, I felt like it wasn't going to be enough room. Think about the first year, you typically have your stroller with you everywhere and the cargo area didn't seem like I would have enough room for that, let alone groceries or luggage if we gone anywhere. I would go with the Acadia in the two options above. We actually decided on the mini van route tho. HaHa.

Good Luck and Congratulations on your expectant baby...

The Acura is better quality, but we looked at a 2008 as well in transitioning from a Pilot, and it is a LOT smaller in cargo space. I wasn't loving the trim packages either.

I'd personally choose the 2010 Acadia of those options for space. It's built for families, whereas the MDX is more geared towards the 40+ crowd.

However, MDX does have one of the best crash ratings.
I'd recommend going to NADA.com, KBB.com, EDMUNDS.com and doing a side-by-side comparison. You may be surprised once you see the two directly in comparison.

First this may be a strange reason but we owned a Acura MDX and that car would have my vote. As I said we owned an Acura MDX until we got t-boned on the tollway. We were just about to go through the toll booth so we spinned out between the toll booths. Not one window was left intact, every piece of metal was crunched it was bad. Not one of us in the car was hurt everyone walked away. Not a scratch, the air bags all went off and completely protected every one. If you had seen the MDX after the accident you would not think that anyone would have walked away. The only draw back that I can see is that not much storage room in the MDX.

I have to agree with Jaime... if you will have the car for any length of time, the Acura is a better quality product.... It's also not such a boat to park... just my opinion - I've owned Hondas, Acuras, Subarus, Fords and a Jeep. I always "miss" my Honda/Acura if I'm not currently driving it. Which is why I have a Honda - again!

We've had a 2008 Acadia for three years, and we LOVE it! I vote for that! I can only imagine how it's improved. We recently took it on a 15 hour trip with our 1.5 year old twins, and it was so comfortable, we had room for everything, and the gas mileage was pretty decent. It' always felt pretty spacious to us.

As for the second row car seats, that's where we put our babies. There was plenty of room for them, and there's a latch system in the second row and also the middle seat of the third row. It was so easy to put our babies in and get them out, and when we switch to the bigger car seat, we loved that they could sit there.
