Where to Go on Halloween - San Fernando Valley

Every year we go to my monther-in-law's for Halloween. She lives in Burbank and her surrounding blocks are packed with children trick-or-treating and almost every house is fully decorated. She just informed us that she cannot do Halloween this year. I live in Northridge and it is completely dead where we live during Halloween. We are one of three houses on my block that decorate and no one comes by to trick-or-treat. Besides going to the mall, any ideas of where we can go? Is it weird to go drive to another neighborhood, park your car and trick-or-treat? LOL. I have a 5, 3 and 1 year old so kid friendly place suggestions please.

Thank you!

I don't live in CA, but we also live in a neighborhood that doesn't do trick or treating. Two years ago we walked about a half a mile to a more friendly trick or treating neighborhood. Last year we drove to a neighborhood where some friends live and walked around there. We will be driving to the same neighborhood this year, there were so many kids there, and everyone seems to be really into Halloween (decorated houses, dressed up, etc).

I also lived in the quiet part of Northridge. I would suggest asking another family what they do and if you could go together. Halloween is not just about candy, it is about getting to dress up and being part of the fun that the community is having together. Your oldest is getting to the age where it can be a social celebration and it is much more fun for the parents to stroll the streets together. Our funnest Halloweens are when we are part of a community of friends. Also, don't forget to trick or treat on your block, even if it is only the houses closest to you to share the cute costumes with your neighbors and to remind them that there are children that live here too. You want your kids to know their neighbors faces, the neighbors to know your kids and to feel that they are part of the village looking out for your children. The seniors on our old block really looked forward to seeing our costumed characters, and being allowed to still share in the festivities now that their little ones have grown-up and don't live at home anymore. Think of it as a good deed and an investment in neighborliness for the rest of the year. Just look for the houses that have their front porch lights on, that is the sign that they are willing to have their doorbell rung. We did our block then went to a friend's home or the opposite, leaving the friend's early enough to still do our block.

Have fun and don't forget to take lots of pictures.

I live in Burbank and I don't think it's strange for you to continue trick or treating here.

No it's not wierd, I think that's what I'd do if I were you is drive to a close by neighborhood. You could still drive to Burbank and trick or treat in your MIL's neighborhood, although that might be a bit wierd not to mention the drive.
Other than that I'd google Halloween activities in San Fernando Valley, good luck!

I live in Northridge. Northridge park does a fun Halloween party in the afternoon. We live near Reseda and Mayall across from Northridge Park. Lots of houses and kids trick or treating over there. I see lots of people drive their kids to our part of the neighborhood.
