Hi!
I live right near Markham Elementary (Off Capitol Hwy) in SW Portland. We went trick or treating in our neighborhood last year and it was a ghost town! We literally did not see one other kid on the street and only had 1 in 5 houses answer the door.
Where do you go to trick-or-treat? I would like to go somewhere there will be lots of kids and lots of decorated houses. What time is the "right" time to go?

What can I do next?

We live in SW Portland and head over to the neighborhood off of SW Barnes and SW Valeria View (Cedar Mill area). There were a ton of kids out last year, and the houses are all decorated and lit up. It was pretty neat last year! We're heading over there again this year for sure. We start around 7pm. :-)

When in doubt, drive to Sherwood. It's amazing! Haunted houses, tons of kids, they have a great community down there.

We live in the Westlake neighborhood in Lake Oswego (really close to you!) and we usually have quite a bit of trick-or-treat traffic. I've also been trick-or-treating in the Morey's Landing neighborhood in Wilsonville and they have a ton of traffic and some of the houses there go ALL out for decorating. Some were so scary my kids wouldn't even go to those houses! :)

I live in the Grant Park/Irvington neighborhood on the east side and some years there are a lot of decorated houses and lots of kids. Last year there wasn't so much but enough to be interesting. There were many middle and high school students.

The most activity seems to be later; around 7 or 8.

We went trick or treating in my daughter's neighborhood last year. We were almost the the only ones on the street. I wonder if families aren't allowing children to trick or treat. There seem to be more group and community parties going on.

My brother lives in Tigard, on a street with large apartment complexes. He said he had no trick or treaters last year.

You could drive around the night before Halloween and scope out decorations which might help you know where to go for trick or treats.

We enjoyed the lack of groups and my 9 yo granddaughter didn't mind. She received more individual attention than she did in my crowed neighborhood the year before. Of course she was the cutest gypsy girl that ever was. lol

Downtown Tigard today from 3-6 or Tigard HS has crafts, etc. on Halloween from 3-6 (I think that is the time). Check Washington Sq. Mall. Sometimes the stores will do something, try down by the play area. It may not be sanctioned by the mall, but some stores will give out treats or candy.

Clackamas is a mall sanctioned event and they host trick or treaters every year. I know, long way to go. But, that's all I can think of. Our street might be a little more lively this year with so many new families moving in. Last year, ghost town, too, and not far from you.
