When Did You Show? and Where?

I asked a question for a friend of mine and she is feeling a bit better about her surprise pregnancy. But still kind of inshock about it. She is not tellling anyone for at least another month, she hopes. She expects some nasty remarks from her family since she got them last time. She has a SIL that thinks no one should have more than 2 children unless it is to have a boy child to carry on the name. She is an extreme "earthmother" (her term) that has been put on this planet to help the Earth. Don't ever let her see you with a plastic anything. My friends other family and inlaws made commetns with her last announcement she does not want to even hear. So that said, she is worried someone will guess or make comments about gaining weight. My friend has lost over 50 pounds by changing her eating and really making a commitment to exercise. She looks fantastic. Her husband is very proud of her and even took her shopping for new clothes. You can guess the family had something to say about that. And any time she lets herself really enjoy and pig out. Anyway she thinks she is about 2 months and is already starting to show. The thing is, she is showing higher up not at the belly part of her middle. More like right in the middle of her rib cage and belly. Have any of you ever shown this way?
The showing makes it look like she has a muffin top. Her pants fit just fine---loose like they have been. Her belly part is still somewhat flat. She is wondering if she might be ectopic or something. it seems she is really picking at little things to freak out.

So What Happened?

Well, she is a bit better. She is not going to say anything to her in laws-or her sis for that matter. I met her SIL and ...what can I say. The first time I figured stressful day but after the second, I avoid her. My friend has an appt with OB late next week. She is off the ectopic fear since she is not having any pain--now wondering about twins. Oh boy. I think she needs a spa trip.

If she's two months along, she should be going to the OB and getting her first prenatal exam & ultrasound, especially if she fears she's ectopic.

I wouldn't worry about the pregnancy being ectopic. She would be in a world of pain if it were at this point. However, as someone else said, she should be getting in to see a doctor or midwife now to get her initial checkup done.

Just remind her every pregnancy is different. Second pregnancies usually are visible earlier, and there is a high likelihood she will carry the baby differently this time.

With my first, I didn't show until around 16 weeks.
I'm pregnant with my second right now, and I started showing at 12 weeks. I felt like I was getting bigger starting at 8 weeks. I think some of it was baby, but honestly most of it was me just being bloated. If this is her second or more, she can expect to show somewhat sooner. And if she has already lost all of that weight and is on a great eating & exercise plan, she can hopefully keep her weight gain in check.
I'm 15 weeks right now, and have lost about 10 lbs since the begginning of my pregnancy, due to morning sickness and my lack of appetite. I had gained a total of 30 lbs with my first.

That is where I would always show with my kids. I thought it was kind of weird to have a lump that looked like it was right under by boobs. No idea why some people show in different places since the baby is usually around the same area with everyone. I remember not being totally noticeable until I was about 6 months with my first, but with my second it was closer to 4.

With my 2nd, I was in maternity clothes by 10 weeks. Visibly pregnant by 12 weeks, but below the belly button - not up high.

If she's showing that high up, there's no chance that it's ectopic. Just not geographically possible!

As for the showing part, with my second, I started showing up top quite a bit at about 6-8 weeks because as my uterus was getting a bit bigger, it was pushing any and all of my belly fat up (that which was left over from baby #1). Not quite what I experienced with my first and I thought it looked funky for a while until the lower part caught up and then I looked more "normal."

As for the familial "bullying" that's she's previously experienced and expects to again, her family and such need to grow up! She's married, seems to be VERY responsible...so what's the big deal if she has another baby?

Once she's ready, she can calmly let whomever know about her newest addition and if there are any nasty comments back at her, she can quietly tell them that any baby (whether planned or not) is still a gift and a treasure and should be treated as such! I sincerely doubt that her "mother earth" SIL would approve of ending such a pregnancy since we shouldn't have more than 2...

(this whole situation gets me a bit fired up since I have no tolerance for such judgmental people like your friend's family! There are a lot meaner things she could say to them, but it probably wouldn't help the family relationships.)

By 4 months I started showing more above the belly button somehow - I guess all the shifting of internal organs farther up kinda helps with that.

I did with both my girls... With my last pregnancy I started wearing maternity pants right at if not before the 3 month mark. Not sure if it was b/c it was a girl or b/c it was my 3rd pregnancy.
