My kids love Fetch with Ruff Ruffman, and Family Game Night (on the Hub). Fetch is a great learning/competition show with kids doing really interesting things.
I have a 7 year old daughter who is in 1st grade. I have never let her watch shows like Hanna Montana or iCarly. I know that these are popular in some households. They seem a bit grown up to me. She still watches shows on stations like Nick Jr., Clubhouse Disney or Sprout and she also likes to watch House Hunters. Are there any shows beyond the "preschool" shows, but more age appropriate then shows like Hanna Montana? What do your 7 year old daughters watch?
Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will preview some new shows on my own and then decide which ones I'm comfortable with her watching.

My kids especially my 6 y/o LOVE Planet's Funniest Animals and America's Funniest Home Videos. He laughs so hard his belly hurts. He asks me to record new shows all the time.
He enjoys watching programs with me like the Cooking and Science channels.
Other than that he loves Curious George. Oh and his new favorite is Jake and the Neverland Pirates. New on Disney.

There are certain shows like ICarly my daughter cannot watch because of the language. She was picking up and using phrases that weren't appropiate like "I kissed a bad boy." I usually sit down and watch the show before I decide if she should watch it or not. She likes "Big Time Rush" on Nick and shows like "Imagination Movers" on Disney but not much of anything in Prime time except for "Funniest Home Videos," and maybe "Etreme Makeover Home Edition" I wll also let her watch the Foodnetwork or HGTV if I am watching it. We still watch shows on PBS like "Cat in the Hat" and "Phinneas and Phirb" on Disney.
Most of the television my 6 year old watches is qubo or pbs. qubo is a 24 hour childrens channel on one of the digital ion channels. All the programs are educational, same with pbs. He has learned all kinds of things I didn't know.
Other than that, he watches (and LOVES) "Dirty Jobs", "Ghost Hunters" and any kind of science or nature documentary. We just watched a National Geographic documentary on ancient Egypt the other night with our dinner.
Of course there is non educational stuff... Dino Squad and Richard Scarry on netflix or on Cookie Jar tv (cbs?) if he's up in time on Saturdays.
I don't let my 9 yr old watch Hanna Montana or I Carly or spongebob.
I don't see any problem with the shows on nick jr , playhouse disney or Sprout for a 1st grader , my 3rd grader still likes some of them.
My kids have always liked Food Network , if you want something outside of the realm of kid's sitcoms.
There is also a channel " The Hub" That has some good kids programs, the new My little pony, GI Joe, Transformers, Family Game Night , picturika
My son will be 7 in June, and all they watch is PBS. We only have an antenna and a digital converter box, so the only options they have are public programming! My son (actually, both of them) are very impacted by visual stuff--so movies that are imaginative, but have "bad" characters, are terrifying to them. A lot of Disney movies, even the ones they watch in school (I wish they didn't, but inside recess is movie time), are scary to both my boys--Beauty and the Beast gave him nightmares. The neighbors were watching a brief section of Chronicles of Narnia, and that was really scary for him, too. Even some Veggie Tales have been too scary the first time around. Knowing how impacted my kids are by tv, we stick with stuff that's too young, and my 6 is fine with that. He DOES watch Nature with daddy on Sunday nights, and loves watching that. Right now, he likes Cat in the Hat, Word Girl, and Wild Kratz on PBS.
the only shows my kids aren't allowed to watch are icarly, and some of the more violent shows on cartoon network. they are allowed to watch Hannah Montana as I have watched it myself and the themes seem to be less mature then icarly and more about family and doing the right thing where icarly is all about doing what they want with no parental involvement at all. my kids do watch sponge bob, phineus and ferb, good luck charlie and we have just started getting little house on the prairie videos from the library. my girls love it.
I let my 5 year olds watch all those shows, they got bored of the Nick Jr. shows. They watch whatever I watch on TV, they know the difference between right and wrong and they are mature for their age. Their favorite show that they like to watch on TV is Being Human on Syfy, they love the Twilight series and other movies like that.
I got one for ya...my 4 year old LOVES, LOVES, LOVES golf. Yes, golf. She can watch it for hours. And much to the shegrin of my husband, she seems to like Veejay Singh. Isnt that the strangest thing you ever heard?
I have a 1st grade son, and unfortunately he watches things that are too old for him because he has older brothers. So if they are watching Hannah Montana, he's watching it. He loves High School Musical (another one he watched over his brothers' shoulders) and dances along, so I've introduced him to some old musicals. That seems to work well.
Calamity Jane is one of his favorites. He also loves anything with Fred Astaire. Try going old school with her, she may love it.
Our kids, 1st and 3rd, love Phinneas and Ferb & Johnny Test. We also watch other shows as a family like American Idol. Pretty much anything on Food Network goes as well. Its tough - way to go for passing on the sassy shows.
My daughter is 5. She LOVES Spongebob and iCarly. She watches some kid shows during the day on Disney and Nick Jr, but I don't really know which ones because she is at my moms. But, my mom tells me that's what channels they watch. We don't watch much TV on the weekend. Her new fave show is Cupcake Wars on the food channel. We love baking together, so she loves any baking shows too.
But really - I don't think the iCarly's or Hannah Montana's are really harmful to kids. I have a teenager who has grown up watching that stuff and she is turning out just fine. But, that is just my opinion.
My granddaughter watches icarley and Hanna Montana they are fairly innocent. However one character in icarley is kinda mouthy and she started to get mouthy, my son told her to knock it off or no more icarley. What bothers me about so many kids shows these days is the amount of merchandising they do. Everything from tee shirts to pajamas, backpacks and school supplies. They feel they need this stuff to fit in.
Click on the t.v. yourself and watch a few. It's a really personal decision b/c so many of the shows are "mature" with respect to language, dress and content. If she asks why she can't watch the shows her other friends are watching, let her know that you have watched them and feel that the characters don't use kind language or good manners and you would rather her not watch them.
