What Shows Does Your 7-8 Year Old Girl Watch???

My 7 1/2 year old daughter just started watching iCarly and Victorious and she loves them! I've watched them with her just to see what they are like and I didn't think they were too old for her. I also thought some of the cartoons she was watching were to babyish as well...but she has an 11 month old sister, so she still watches some cartoons with her.

My 7yr old loves the Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, which teaches science. And the Noodle doodle bus which has a craft and cooking section, and Dirt Girl, all about the environment. These are all PBS

My 8 year old (all of my kids really, of all ages) watch all of the shows you mentioned. My 8 year old also likes reality shows (get's it from me lol).

The only ones in my house who actively watch Disney Jr and Nick Jr are the 5 year old and the 2 year old.....but even they like iCarly, Victorious and my personal favorite...Good luck Charlie.

Well, my 8-year old is a boy, but he's also at that stage w/ TV - and he doesn't watch a lot of TV, loves dinosaurs, and is an avid reader.

Fortunately, he's willing to watch with his little brothers without a fuss, but a few of his recent "big kid" choices are:

We also do the "Walking with...." shows (Walking with Dinosaurs, Walking with Prehistoric Beatst, etc.)

At school they watched (I think it's called) "Raz Kids" last year. He liked that. He also still like "Curious George" and "the Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That". He can read really well, but thinks "Word World" is hilarious. And though he figures out the clues early on, he enjoys "Busytown Mysteries" and "Super Why".

I have also heard that Word Girl is good. He used to watch "Dirty Jobs" with his Dad.

My 9 year old still watches Nick Jr (if her friends are not around). She typically watched Icarly and Good Luck Charlie at that age, but that is about it. She loves sports so she tends to watch ESPN and so forth crazy kid. I had to fight with her to go to bed last night because she wanted to watch the Little League world series.

My daughter is 6 1/2 and loves shows on the hub. She also loves streaming shows on netflix. They have a lot of dinosaur shows my kiddo likes. She also likes a lot of cartoons I've never heard of but can tell from the box screen, they are older; Dinosquad, Street Sharks. Liberty's Kids is also a great cartoon on netflix for streaming. Movies are good too. She's really into the Barbie movies.

Lose the Nick and Noggiin and Disney channels. We don't have them and what I've seen of them at other people's houses or in hotels is appalling. The shows you are talking about, for somewhat older kids, are loud and brassy and always show kids who live as if they are the adults; the parents are always presented as idiots. Show business is often presented as the most desirable goal any kid could have. Realistic, right?

Encourage the reading. Get her good videos (from sources like National Geographic or from the library's kids' science video collections) about the dinosaurs she likes. Get videos of good quality stuff like the American Girl movies which are both historical and present kids being kids with strong but fallible families. Get movies from Pixar -- all are great. I prefer videos to broadcast TV because you can pick and choose and there are no commercials. My daughter is 11 and has grown up fine without the crud marketed to kids as entertainment on Disney channel and Nick etc. And those shows always have tie-ins -- "stars" who want to sell records as well as act or who have fashion "designer" aspirations and so on. It's manufactured junk creating manufactured stars, so if it's driving you crazy, eliminate it from your house. She will be fine .

Some of these answers almost made me spit my drink through my nose! Oh goodness, some people need to lighten up!

She likes learning about what happens. I know it's intense, but we watch it together and talk about it. Definitely not for every child. Her older brother watches it sometimes and she got interested.

My 7 year old LOVES icarly! I even took her to Miranda's concert last summer. She also does really like victorious. But she is also into alvin and the chipmonks, lol! Nick Jr. does seem a little bit for younger kids. Maybe watch the show first when she is not around to see if you approve of it?

Our 7 yo daughter loves R.L. Stine's Goosebumps and The Haunting Hour right now (on HUB).

My daughter is 6.5 and loves dinosaurs too :)

She watches cartoons on Netflix. She will also watch National Geographic shows about dinosaurs or other animals!

My seven year old watches all the mentioned shows. Try to find the Qubo channel. I can't think of what is on there at the moment, but they are kids shows and she loves them.

She also likes to watch Cake Boss. Right now she is watching a lot of the Olympics!

My son is 9 and my daughter is 4, so we don't have a girl exactly the age of your daughter. But, like you, I don't really want my son watching the shows that I think are geared more towards teens and pre-teens. All three of us actually love Phineas and Ferb.

7 year old DD..she loves the hub too! Jem, my little pony, etc. she also likes the suite life, I Carly, victorious, etc and I don't think they're that bad either. She really loves Sunday nights when we watch cupcake wars together!

Phinneas & Ferb, Good Luck Charlie & Jesse. This is usually what my 9 yr old and since her sister is always here, 6 yr old watch. I have watched these shows with them and I am fine with the content in these shows. My girls do not watch much tv, but I'm ok with some tv time. When Dad is home, they watch shows on Animal Planet like Gator Boys. Shark week is coming up and they are both excited about that. They do not care for iCarly. They also love to watch House Hunters with me and guess which house they pick. Cupcake Wars is also a family favorite.

My girls have watched I-Carly and Victorious with not so great results. As soon as I saw them emulating attitude and acting like the shows they stopped being allowed to watch for a while. Actually, I think it helped as a teaching tool for behavior. We have talked at length about why they are no longer allowed to watch them and what good behavior vs. bad behavior looks like. We've also talked about why there are no parents on the shows and what would happen if there were. Good Luck Charlie shows a fully functioning family unit which I fully approve of. Some of the situations are still above my 8 year old's level, but we talk about it when we need to. A new show on is Gravity Falls which I find hilarious though again...no parents for the kids. (And it's a bit on the creepy/scary side but my girls like it!)
I guess my point is, if you decide to let them watch some shows you're questionable about, talk about it. TV is meant to be entertainment...not to set the tone for life. If it was meant to set the tone for life, we'd all have a maid named Alice!

My daughter mostly watches Netflix. She loves Rocky and Bullwinkle, Ruby Gloom (a Canadian cartoon about this little monster girl and her friends. My hubby describes it as showing the the bright side of the dark side. It's cute), Scooby Doo, Bad Dog (Animal Planet- clips of pets doing crazy/ naughty things), sometimes Phinneas & Ferb or Johnny Bravo or The Regular Show. We also watch Figure It Out, Craft Wars, and just finished Frozen Planet (she LOVED that).
I don't allow her to watch any of those Disney/ Nick shows- iCarly, Victorious, etc. She's only seven and it seems to me that those shows are geared toward the pre teen/early teen years.They talk about boys (sometimes worrying about things like kissing), are in middle or high school, do things like go to the mall with just their friends, basically act like pre teen/ young teenagers. My young girl is a young girl and right now she needs to be into things that are for young girls. She'll have plenty of time to giggle about the boy she likes, or deal with the meal girl and the cliques, or go to a party or whatever else. So we don't allow those.

Kids should not be viewing shows that have the teens in full make-up, hair done nicer than mine and NO PARENTS on site for the majority of the show! The language they use is deplorable, too.

The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family were appropriate ! What happened to good TV?

As a Parent Educator/Speaker I always tell parents to watch the show first. If it's inappropriate, then the choice has been made. It's time to find another show!

My girls are 9 & 11 and they both enjoy Phineas & Ferb and reruns of Little House on the Prairie. They don't really have any interest in iCarly or other "older" shows. If they try to watch something we disapprove we tell them to turn the channel or lose TV. HTH!

we do not have cable or a sat. dish. We really only watch whatever comes on the antenna or netflix. Reg. tv it is the qubo channel (very rare tho). Netflix my 8 yr old girl loves Strawberry Shortcake, Phineas and Ferb, My little Pony, she loves mythbusteres, just got done watching Iditarod, Loves H2O mermaid show. On her TV she watches Barbie movies mostly. LOL right now she is watching the Olympics on TV!

My girls are 8 and 10. Their favorite is probably Sponge Bob. A lot of people find it annoying (OK, his laugh IS annoying) but it actually isn't too bad and there are some lines in that show that actually make me laugh. They also like iCarly, Victorious and Good Luck Charlie. iCarly grates on me a little, especially the character of Sam. She's just rude. But I've talked to my girls about it and I think they understand it's TV and we don't need to act like the people portrayed on TV.

My kids also watch a lot of "non" kid shows. Every week we watch Amazing Race and Survivor together (blankets, jammies, dessert!) They like to watch Animal Planet, House Hunters and anything on the History Channel. Last week there was a show (I think on History) that was all about the "amazing" inventions of the '80s (when I was their age) My girls thought it was hilarious! I would suggest trying to find some shows like that. Some can be educational. Yesterday we watched a show called "Infestations" or something like that. Scorpions had taken over these people's house. So I guess my girls learned that scorpions can live in Arizona (they asked). Just little tidbits of info are good, right? So, not everything has to be a kid show.

My daughter is 8 and she watches Goosebumps, loves game shows such as Family Feud or Lingo, The Big Bang Theory, documentaries on SCIENCE or History channel.

My daughter is 5 and she watches icarly, ant farm, victorious all those shows..., she likes sponge bob but I don't think it's apporate show...,I rather her not watch these but with an 11 yr old daughter too it's hard... But I'm pretty easy going and I don't shelter my kids as far as shows as much I should... But I do agree with others post about Netflix... They have a kids Netflix and they can only choose kid apporate shows... Does I have shows I mentioned but there's a lot on there that aren't on tv..., maybe try looking at Walmart for punky brewster DVD my kids love it!!!! Cheap too $5!!
