A good friend of mine and her fiancé are going to a wedding in India soon and need some suggestions on places to visit, stay, eat, and entertainment! They will be going to Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. They're 30 years old, big time foodies and cultural history buffs, well traveled, and enjoy nightlife and shopping. Thanks for any suggestions you may have!

My now-ex husband attended a wedding in Mumbai and visited Agra while there. In his experience, the wedding family took great pride in making the travel arrangements (a driver to get to Agra and back, for example) and providing sight-seeing opportunities. If it is a traditional wedding, the festivities can last several days. It was an adventure! He came back sicker than a dog... they will need to watch what, and where, they eat.

The Taj Mahal in Agra, definitely! If they can, try going during the day and at night. Two different types of beautiful. There was some fort we went too where you could see the Taj in the background, but I cannot remember what the name of it was. It was a great place for pictures. We also went to Fatehpur Sikri, but I think it was a bit of a drive to get there. Humayun's Tomb in Delhi was interesting to see. When we were in Agra, we stayed at the Holiday Inn and it was nice. We booked really early, so got a great deal on the rooms. I can't remember where we stayed in Delhi. We were only there a day. I haven't been to Jaipur, so can't help you there.

Varanasi. It is a most beautiful city. So much history, living in the present.

If I ever get to go back to India, I'll want to visit Bombay.

((Ooops!! I totally misinterpreted your question! Sorry!)

My husband, who is Indian, travels there often (4-5 times a year) for work. He's been to Delhi and Agra, but he only had ideas for Delhi. Here are his suggestions:

"I only know Delhi... they should try Chandni Chowk - it's the ancient city's centre and market place. Extremely busy and crowded. India's largest and oldest mosque is there for visiting. LOTS of different foods and clothings and souvenirs, etc. Another good shopping place is Connaught Place. This is newer and not as overwhelming. It's still not like a mall or anything, but not as overwhelming. And they have better restaurants there.

That's about the only sightseeing I've done in Delhi. I've always been too busy to do anything else and would just eat at wherever I was at a meal time...

What's their budget? Are they looking at high end hotels? If so - Leela Palace in Gurgaon (kinda a suburb of Delhi - close to the airport) is an excellent hotel to stay at ($300+ a night). The Hilton at Janak Puri (another kinda suburb) is another good one. The Lalit is another good hotel (the latter two are slightly cheaper and you can get a room for $200 or less a night). They're all 5 star hotels.

Ooh while in Delhi, they should check out some tourist sites in Uttar Pradesh. I don't remember exactly where in UP, but it's an hour away."

Hope they have fun.
