My huband and I are going to Seattle in mid-July with another couple. We've never been there before and are not sure where (in what area) we should stay. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Lots to see and do in Seattle, but my favorite thing there is the "underground Seattle". Amazing! Don't miss it!

My husband travels to Kirkland for business. He loved the town; it's very pedestrian friendly with lots of great shops, restaurants, and local flavor. He stays at an amazing hotel there: http://www.heathmankirkland.com/. It's the one place he goes where I wonder if the staff takes better care of him than I do! ;)

How fun!!! Have a great time.

Hi S.,
I, like Kathe, would highly recommend staying downtown. I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Seattle when I was there on business and it was a few block walk to Pike's Market on the water, to shopping, and to great restaurants. I also took the underground buses around and took the monorail to the Space Needle/Experience Music Project, etc.

I did the Duck Tour, too, which was a bit corny I agree, but gave a great snapshot of different parts of Seattle. Kind of like a tour bus, but with a "dunk" (duck? ;-) in Union Lake, so that you can motor by the houseboats and get some great views from the lake.

My one regret was missing the underground tour, so I would highly-recommend that. I've heard it is very interesting.

The Grand Hyatt Seattle is a beautiful hotel, but probably a bit pricey. I'm not sure, since I used my points. All I can say is that the room was more like a suite and I was on a corner, so that two of the four walls in the bedroom were windows that had views of the water and the space needle. At night, with the lights out in the room, it was an amazing site!!

Have fun!
D.

My husband lived in Seattle for 15 years until he moved down here in 2003. HIs parents are still there. We go all the time and I LOVE it!!! What kinds of things do y'all want to do? That will help decide where to stay! The Fish Market is a MUST (Pike Place) and my favorite steak and seafood restaurant is Daniel's Broiler on Lake Union! It is delicious and a nice splurge! (It is not cheap that is for sure) If you like hot BBQ there is a hole in the wall place called Dixie's which is grat -- try the man sauce (but be warned it is the hottest thing I have ever put in my mouth!) Another local place is Dick's burgers ( I don't like greasy food but it is all the rage and their milk shakes are great -- and it is quick and inexpensive. My advice is to STAY AWAY from Mexican food! It is NOT good there and definitely DO NOT eat at Azteca! ICK! I would suggest tkaing the ferry across to the islands and doing a hike if you are into that! There is a beautiful lake in Seattle by the zoo - Green Lake - you can rent bikes or skates or just walk it and it is really nice. The zoo is nice too -- you actually see animals because it is not nearly as hot out as here! Snoqualmie Falls is another beautiful place-- there is a lodge there (kinda pricey but nioe) that we have stayed at before -- if you like waterfalls! If you want more info, please feel free to email me at ____@____.com (We have owned businesses ther efor 14 years and just sold them in May so we are regulars!)

I am from the Pacific Northwest. I grew up in Oregon and am very familiar with Seattle. My Dh lived in Seattle before we met. He suggested you check out the Four Seasons Olympic hotel in downtown Seattle (Very nice). You have gotten plenty of great suggestions of sites to see. I would strongly suggest you visit Green Lake. I can remember going there on dates with my husband, it's so beautiful. Someone also mentioned Snoqualmie Falls, wonderful place to visit. Of course Pike Place Market is a tourist must see. You can also go over to West Seattle to Alki beach, there are some great fish and chips places to eat at (I think one is called Salty's). Have fun! I miss the northwest:(

I've only been once, but my DH went to boarding school in that area. He's been back for business & family visits several times and loves to stay right in downtown. It's just a walk to everything Pike Place, Pioneer square, Space Needle, Monorail, The Music Experience, etc. We've always had good luck with the Sheraton aka Starwood brand hotels, but of course whatever fits your budget. I suggest the underground tour, a web search should find info easily, also kind of corney but a lot of fun is the Ducks tour. The Queen Anne neighborhood & park are awesome. Lot's of early 20th century architecture and amazing views, great for pictures with the space needle in the background. I haven't been there for many years & I'm sure there are other Mamas with more info, but if you happened to be in or near the Redmond area, I highly suggest the Brown Bag Cafe. I went there around Mother's Day 2000 and I still remember the meal!

Good luck and have fun,
K. mom of 3 ages 6, 5 & 3
