I had mine done about 15 years ago and it was just minor surgery. The hardest part was staying flat for several days. I had mine on Thurs or Fri and was back at work at a desk job on Mon or Tues. I never regreted it. Hope this helps. L.

Just had mine done last Monday. I had mine done a few hours after giving birth to my daughter. It was a bit more evasive than I was expecting. My doc made it sound like it was no big deal, I was a lot more sore from that than I was the vaginal delivery. It has been a week though and I am good to go. A bit sore here and there, but the biggest pain is not being able to pick up my 20 month old who weighs 26 lbs. I was told I needed to wait 2 weeks on that. That is pretty difficult since my husband has returned to work. All in all, I would recommend it. Be careful of the "twilight zone" they put you in, it really messed w/me. I felt a lot more drugged up after this delivery than w/my son. That could have been a combination of things though.
Hope that helps. Feel free to message me if you have more questions.
Everyone is talking about the actual procedure. I had mine done when my 4th child (now 17 months) was born by c-section. It was my 1st c-section, the others were not so I don't know what pain was related to what.
Now the problem I've had since is heavy periods, I go thru a super size box of tampons, the heaviest one in one period. The first 2 days I pretty much don't want to leave the house due to them being so heavy and needing to change it every 1 or 2. I have bad cramps. Had I known before that heavy periods were a side effect of this I'm not sure that I would have did it. It has been awful. Also in my research showing that that is a major side effect I also discovered that a tubal is actually less effective than being on the pill.
So make sure you check into all the "extra" after effects that aren't well known until you hear of someone that has them or you start looking into them.
Good luck.

I had mine done 6 weeks after my son was born. It was the worst pain I have ever felt, but I wouldnt change my decision. My husband is 44, and I am 33; we both have a child from a previous marriage. We are certain this is the last for us. No worries..so far. Hope this helps
I had mine done 3 weeks after a vaginal birth. For me, the worst of it was pulling the bandaid off of my belly button. I had some minor cramping for about a day but was up and around taking care of 3 kids (one of them a newborn) with little to no trouble.
My doc put me completely under so I needed the rest of that day to sleep off the drugs.
T.,
I had mine done almost three years ago after the birth of my 2nd and 3rd children (twins obviously). It was done on the spot after their delivery by c-section. It sounds like I must have been very fortunate because I had very little discomfort (maybe it was masked by the "bigger" surgery, being the c-section incision). I did feel a bit of deeper soreness that I attributed to the tubal but it was very managable. That being said, I also have a bit of a heavier period than I did when I was on the pill and some cramping and usually a really good headache the day before starting my period that I just didn't have while on oral contraceptives. But I have also found that those symptoms are much less troublesome if I am getting a little excercise on a regular basis (I remember my 7th grade p.e. teacher telling all us girls not to sit out while we were on our periods, that we would actually feel better if we participated - what do you know, she was right!! LOL)
Anyway, for me, I am so glad I did it. The benefits far outlast the negatives mentioned above. Not having to worry about BC is so freeing!
Best wishes, I hope it goes well for you!
Hi T.. Before the arrival of my last child, we were 100 % sure we wanted permanent b/c. Having never had surgery, I was very intimidated by what I read about my options. After discussing it with my ob/gyn, I chose to have the Essure procedure done. Please take a moment and look it up online. It is a much less invasive and lower risk non hormonal permanent option. Best of luck with whatever you choose.
