my youngest son is almost 2 years old. His K-9 teeth are not coming in - the pointy eye teeth... all four of them are still missing. He has all of his other teeth, I think. All of the other 2 year olds that we know have those teeth and have had them for some time. I haven't asked the pediatrician yet, but does anyone know what's going on??

I have a friend who never got her top canines. It's possible. I think I would ask an children's dentist. It could be that they're coming or it could be that they're not. But, either way, this isn't too big a deal. He'll be fine!
Take him to the Dentist for a consultation. I never got one of my bottom front teeth as a primary or permanent tooth. Then I never grew any 12 yr old molars up top which caused my top front teeth to have a huge gap between them. I had to get braces to bring my teeth together, or else my teeth would've gradually receded towards the back.
Now we are dealing with my son who has an extra tooth that is fused to one of his top front teeth, The Dentist said this is more common than most people would think, and hopefully when the permanent tooth comes in it will be normal.

The ages they list for kids to get certain teeth are averages. Many kids get them significantly earlier or later. My 20 month old just got his forst molars in and I doubt he'll be getting those eye teeth anytime soon. He has been a slow teether. It's possible your LO doesn't have them, and an x-ray at the dentist will tell you, but most likely they're just slow to come through. It happens, a lot!
His teeth will come in! My daughter was almost 4 before all of her teeth came in, her daughter is 2 and only has 8 teeth- 4 on the bottom, 4 on the top. Her 2 year old cousin has all of his teeth- just give it time, check with a pediatric dentist if no signs by age 3. Good Luck! (my daughter is now in her 20's, no teeth problems!)
Check when your family like your siblings, husbands family had theirs come in. Also consider taking you child to the dentist...I did with my youngest I did it real early and was glad I did it was before age 2 and he loves going to the dentist. I didn't do that with the first and he's turning 9 just now he's not afraid of the dentist. A pediatric dentist is the best bet to see also has everything for children and usually has a child friendly atmosphere. The dentist can take a xray and you can see how those teeth are developing and get a date range on when they are going to come in for him.
Check your family histories. Every other generation in my family has some members with missing teeth.

I just wanted to offer you a little peace of mind this morning. I have a 27 month old little girl who is just now starting to cut hers on top, still not showing on the bottom. She has been a tough teether. Slow to start but then they all seemed to burst thru at once. She didn't even get her first tooth till she was a few weeks from her first Bday. My son on the other hand (who is 9 months old) is already bigger than his 2 year old sister and already has 4 teeth. Every child is different... Very different I have learned, as I am sure you already know. I guess I just wanted you to know you are not the only one out there. These teeth seem to be coming in the slowest of all her teeth, but they are coming. Give it some time and I am sure his will too.
I hope you find some peace of mind about it and that you two will soon be enjoying all the fun of teething again! ;)

I was missing all my baby lateral incisors. I ended up not having the adult ones either. Mine was genetic as my mom is missing 3 of them and my cousin was missing 2. Nothing you can do if they are missing. If you are concerned take him/her to a pediatric dentist. The possitive...I was missing 3 wisdom teeth so I only had to have 1 removed! :)
My 2-year old daughter has the same problem - just those 4 teeth are missing. Although, she did not get her first tooth until 13 months of age. I'm not too concerned about it right now - mainly because it took her a year just to get one tooth. I plan on asking her doctor about it at her next appointment.
If you are really concerned, just call your son's doctor or your dentist. Your son's 2-year old check-up visit should be coming up soon - so you could wait and ask at that time.

My little girl is 22 months old and only has one of those teeth. She didn't get her first tooth until she was 10 months old, and then didn't get another until she was 13 months. I'm not concerned at all, I figure since she got the others late these are just following the same course. If it worries you that much take him to a pediatric dentist and they can check him out!
