I keep thinking of that show "Lost". Breaks my heart for the family. I believe that it crashed into the ocean somewhere. I hope they find out soon for the sake of the families.
Those poor families. Not to have any idea what has happened to your loved ones. It doesnt make any sense. I have heard and read some many things possible scenarios with this sad story. I keep thinking they are being held hostage somewhere. Then why have they not contacted anyone with demands? 239 Chinese people 3 Americans and misc people from other countries. One 2yr old and and one 4 yr old. My "misc comment" was not a cold comment. I just not recall what countries everyone was from. Instead of focusing on the word misc..why dont you pray that they find the plane and surivors.
I just keep praying.
There are people from 26 diferent countries. I am not sure of all the countries. However I did recall the majority where from China.

I think the word you were looking for is "various." I'm sorry that so many are focusing on the poor word choice, but I can understand the reason. Words have meaning and impact. The words we choose matter.
To answer your question, no I am not glued to the story. It's sad, gruesomely fascinating, and concerning, but I'll draw my conclusions about what happened when they actually find the plane.
I will say that it's a little frightening, in this oh-so-connected world, with radar, microwave, satellite, and cellular communications, that we can still lose an entire airplane with over 200 people on board. Wow.
No, but I hope that they are recovered, and light is shed on the disappearance. Meanwhile, I am a bit upset that this is monopolizing the news cycles. When and if there is more to report, more should follow. We could instead have local, national and international news, and have this be a two line sidenote - "Meanwhile, efforts to recover the lost Malasyian flight are ongoing."
Best,
F. B.
I think it's going to be a long time until we know anything. Many countries, many authorities investigating and with jurisdiction (or claims about it), many languages, lots of rough terrain and hundreds of thousands of square miles of open water. We have to listen to reliable reports, not people filling air time with speculation. It's hard not to speculate, but it's not productive - it takes our energy and a lot of people are spreading rumors (whether well-meaning as hypothetical scenarios, or whether pure pass-the-blame gossip). Try not to think about "hostages, so where are the demands" or "terrorism so where is the debris" or "mechanical but what could it have been" or any of that - you just don't have all the info to be able to process those thoughts, or the technical knowledge of aircraft engines or the physics of lift, thrust, etc. - and they will eat you up.
And I agree with the other post that "misc people" might be misunderstood as thinking they or their nationalities are less important. I'm sure you don't mean that. And the children are just as tragic as the adults. Everyone has a family somewhere, every person has value regardless of age, and every loss counts. We can't look at a few hundred people and say this is more tragic than a single person car crash or less tragic than 3000 Syrians lost in a civil war of atrocities whose families are also looking for them. Sometimes we focus on one thing because it's easier to comprehend than the enormity of cruelty and death on a grander or ongoing scale.
There were six people from my country on board. I don't think it's terrorism. I think it's more likely something like a fire starting in the electricals. They turned towards Langkawi, but were overcome by smoke, then just kept flying into the night. It's certainly the world's biggest media story right now.
No I don't watch it much.
Not that I am not concerned. I am.
But I can't be glued to it.
But when something concrete develops, then sure I want to hear about it on the news.
Jan,
No. I'm not glued to the story.
Since when did people become "Misc"??? I'm sure their families won't be saying that.
There are many scenarios that have been talked about. Only today, I heard on the news that they have found debris, which they believe to be from the plane, 1,500 miles off the Australian coast near Perth.
If they are being held hostage - no demands have been made - that I have heard of.
I read a good blog today written by a pilot.
He proposes the most likely scenario is a cockpit fire, the pilot turned toward a familiar airport to land, it escalated quickly, and the plane, on autopilot, flew until fuel was gone.
Nor as sensational as some theories, but makes the most sense of those I've heard.
Such a sad thing though, I agree.
I read a bit about it every day.
It's hard to determine if any debris is from the plane - there's so much junk out there already - from tsunamis and such - unless they can identify specific plane parts I don't think they should be jumping every time some trash is spotted.
It's estimated 14 million tons of trash get dumped into the oceans every year.
There are swirling trash vortexes in several parts of various oceans.
It's no wonder they are having a hard time.
If it's there.
It's just weird that the pilot/flight crew turned off communication and headed off in a direction no one expected them to take.
I hope we find out what happened.
But they are still looking for what happened to Amelia Earhart without any success.
Not glued to the story but reading updates once a day. I keep wondering if it was hijacked, why. There have been no ransom demands, unless the governments are keeping that secret. The known terrorist sects have not claimed responsibility, so no agenda known.
I don't know, I just hope the innocents are being taken care of.
No. The media is going crazy with this. My heart breaks for the families. The media is speculating, etc. No one knows. They should stop the coverage and when they find it then break in to regular programs. But enough already. Too much.
I'm not. To me, being informed hat the plane is missing, the known circumstances of it's disappearance, and the effort being made to find it is all I need or really care to know. I would like to be informed of further developments, but to me it's pointless to speculate on what happened, or to rehash the same information a million times.
I think it's horrible for the families not to know what has happened to their loved ones... But no more horrible than the same thing the families of the hundreds of people who go missing on a daily basis. ThIs is just getting so much attention because it happened en masse, and the mystery/scandal of a huge plane that went missing. (seriously, how do you lose an AIRPLANE in today's world...?)
My interest in this is much the same as any other calamity... I will do what I can to help the problem, but in this situation here is *nothing* for me to do... No family members in the area who need my support, no way to send aid or volunteer to help... So I don't waste my energy worrying and wondering about something that I can't change.
If they find out what happened, my curiosity about the missing plane will be satisfied. I will feel either relieved or sad for the missing and their families, but not any more than I do any other stories I see on the news. I do occasionally get hooked on a story... But not very often.
I don't mean to sound callous or heartless, but to focus so much on the negative aspects of life just drains my spirit. If I am going to spend my energy thinking about the lives of strangers with no way to change the outcome, I would much rather read about a story about the family who opened their home to the young couple who lost their home in a fire, the teenager standing up for her disabled friend, and other stories that restore my faith in humanity... Faith that the mainstream media seems to be constantly trying to tear down.
I certainly don't have anything against people who are following the story. It is human nature to want answers when there are none. I simply choose to ignore that part of my nature. :)
Much more concerned with the missing and exploited minors in my own community.
no, but i do tune in periodically. like every 'big' news story, the media has a vested interest in fanning the fascination. i'd like an occasional update, with no more sensational headlines until they actually have something to say.
not sure why 'misc' has become a pejorative.
it just seems so odd in a world where the GPS satellites have detailed pictures of my farm (and who knows how many edited versions with me shaking my fist at 'em in my birthday suit), but can lose an entire plane!

I am also reading up on this, no one knows what happend really. I hope the truth does come out for the sake of the families.
