Following the Missing Malaysian Plane

Has anyone been following the news on the missing plane? I have and I just read that the prime minister of Malaysia just declared that the plane went down in the South Indian Ocean and that there are no survivors. (obvious)
They had spotted "orange" debris but couldn't verify for sure if this was part of the plane. They have tried scouring the sea but I guess dense fog has been an issue and kept planes from flying really low. How extremely sad for all those families. I wonder if they will ever truly find out what happened? There are still some stories out there of the plane being hijacked. How many of you that have kept up on this story believe the plane went down or was hijacked and is hiding somewhere?

Please pray for those families that lost their loved ones. If you are not religious then think of a nice thought and keep them in your minds. So so sad.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I know so sad that they don't have the answers. The true answers.

I guess I feel if it did crash into the ocean, bodies would have floated up. I find it interesting it took so long to find debris and no bodies have floated up. I realize ocean predators may have eaten the bodies but I still think some would have floated up.

It is sad, I feel so badly for the familes.

Nope. Not following it. Will listen when there is an update, but not going out and searching for current information.

No, I do NOT believe we will find out what really happened. I'm sorry for the families....it must be hard not knowing...really...you believe they are dead...however...what if this is like the show "LOST"??? WHAT IF? No closure.

Hi-Jacked or Hiding...on the fence...no one has taken responsibility....It's just sad.

Tragedy sucks? I would never put it that way. But it is tragic nonetheless and how awful for the families to never know what really happened.

Sounds like they just got tired of looking and of the families screaming for answers.
The ocean is so full of trash they can't be sure any that is spotted has anything to do with the aircraft.
They have no identifiable pieces, no black box, etc.
We'll/they'll never really know what happened.
Tragedy sucks.

I am following it, and this is so incredibly sad. My dad was a P-3 pilot through his Navy career, and I wouldn't think fog would keep that plane from doing what it does, I don't know about the other planes though. P-3's are built to fly through hurricanes, so fog is not much compared to those rains and winds. At least that is my uneducated opinion there.

I don't know what happened to it, too many theories going on out there, and that's the way it is with everything. I'll be glad when the families finally have peace.

I am following only those updates from reputable news sources, and if they are just talking about it incessantly, filling air time when we know nothing, then I'm turning them off.

I think endless speculation about suicide, terrorism, hijacking, etc. is totally pointless. We are not experts in aviation, engineering, sea currents, the electronics of the black box, and so on. We don't have access to information - and I don't think we should. Too much info too soon is just misleading.

I live outside of Boston, and my son was 1.5 blocks from the Marathon bombing last April. We heard all kinds of speculation, certain papers (like the NY Post) actually put photos of totally innocent young men on the front page, and there were horrible comments about Muslims and Middle Easterners. This was long before we knew anything and before the city suburbs were shut down in pursuit of the eventual suspects. So a whole lot of people were trying to grab headlines and sell papers - and a lot of lives were damaged. Even so, the agencies were not cooperating as we had hoped, and a lot of pre-event intelligence that might have prevented this didn't get out there because of competition and one-upmanship among law enforcement agencies.

So I really think we have to wait until we know for sure. I am more interested in detailed analysis over time than in what they get out there as quickly as possible. As hard as it is for us who want to know what happened, it's far worse for the families who are waiting and who are harmed by irresponsible speculation or premature reports.

I read the news updates that pop up, but I'm not following the story obsessively or anything.

As I was typing, an update came through - "All lives are lost," family members of those aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 were told today. The grim news that the airliner apparently crashed in the southern Indian Ocean was announced by Malaysia's Prime Minister."

It seems like they are probably going to stop looking.

Did you read how Inmarsat received pings hourly and scientists used the Doppler effect to work out where it was? Very clever. Apparently the poor families were sent a text telling them hope was lost. Most sad.

Pilot suicide IMO. Took it out to Indian ocean because it is 16,000 ft deep. Those depts, probably will never be found. So sad for the families. Heartbreaking. At those depts they have no idea if black boxes will ping. Never had a plane at those depths.
