Supervised Visitation

Going out on a limb here. Need to petition courts for supervised visitation due to illegal drug use. Does anyone have a copy of a court petition that I can use as a guideline. Doesn't have to be your own but do you know any websites I can go to for sample letters? I just need to get ideas as to how to address a court in a letter. No money for an attorney so I have to figure it out myself. I can do it but would like any advice or feedback.

What can I do next?

I agree with the going to the court office and asking for help - also you will have to provide proof. I obtained termination after my husband refused supervised visitation and know they will not take your word for it alone. Also read the family code for your state as it pertains to supervised visitation and that will help you....best of luck to you..

I suggest that you go to the court administrative office and ask them in what form your request needs to be made. I've worked security in the courthouse and learned that offices are there in part to help people file petitions, to include how to write them up.

Dear R., Sorry to hear about your situation. Your situation is complicated and sounds like you don't want to make a mistake or delay as your children could be in danger. I suggest you contact your family, friends, church, etc. and have them help you collect money for a good attorney to handle this for you. Traditionally law students and legal aid do not handle family law cases. Best wishes and God bless.

If you have had your child taken from you you can ask for a court appointed attorney. CPS will set the visitation schedule. Talk to your CPS worker. Ask for an attorney. If the child isn't yours, and you are just wanting visitation, it probably isn't going to happen. If you aren't the parent, and aren't involved in drugs, you can become a kinship provider and have custody of the child.

The Court will not be likely to help you with legal advise and that is what you are asking. When you go to court you have to have your ducks in a row. My suggestion to you is to contact North Texas Legal Aid and see if you qualify for their services. If you don't follow proper procedure, the court can't grant you any relief.

Just my little tidbit since I am a family law attorney in Tarrant County.
