After some research I decided to get my 3 1/2 year old a leapster 2 for the holidays. My daughter is quite proficient on my laptop navigation sites such as disney playhouse, noggin, sprout, etc. I am having a hard time choosing games to go with it. It is hard to judge a game by it's cover.

If your children have the Leapster, which games are their favorites and why?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone one who replied. I got my daughter a bundle pack so it came with the pet pal many of you recommended. Her Aunt got her the backyardigans. And I am going to give her a homemade certificate to redeem with mom for an additional game. i'll bet it will either be princesses or Dora.

I've been debating the Leapsters, too, for my now 4-y-o. Somebody gave us a set of Nat'l Geographic animal cards for the new Tag system -- a leapfrog pen that reads their Tag books. The pen costs the same as the original Leapster. Does anyone have any experience with Tag and would you recommend it as highly as a Leapster? I'm afraid the pen won't get used right, will get lost, etc.

We have the original Leapster. My daughter is 4, she got it when she was 3. She enjoys the Disney Princess games (I think there are 2 for the original). She also loves the Cars game (and it is pretty neat in terms of teaching them letter sounds and making short words). There is also a Thomas the Train game that she enjoys. We also have 2 Dora games, a Backyardigans game, a Letterpillar one and a numbers one for math. I am not sure if they make all the same games for the new Leapster, but I read somewhere that the games for the original Leapster supposedly work on the new Leapster 2...but I would double check on that just in case.

My daughter will be receiving the game Pet Pals for Christmas, but by far her first game was the Princess game that Leapster offers.

She has so many games now (she is 8). She still plays and has played with it religiously since she received this almost 3 years ago.

There are all kinds of games that start them off so just check your local Target stores. They seem to be the ones that have the games on sale the most.

What kinds of things does your child like? My daughter loves the disney princesses and thomas so I bought her those two games, plus she asked for them she is three going on four but I look at what she is interested in and try to get games to go along with that. Sometimes we'll stroll through the game aisle and she'll point one out and I'll ask her why. That is what works for me. Hope it helps!

My 3 kids all love Pet Pals. I'm not sure why they love it so much but they do! My twins were 4 and a half when they got it and had no problem using it.

Good luck!

My son loves the game pet pals you take care of a pet and you can earn doggie dollars..its cute it is for pre-k through 1st grade i believe. One of my nieces is about the same age as your daughter and she has a leapster she loves playing the pet pals game, dora pinata party, clifford the big red dog and go diego go. The regular Leapster games and l-maxx games also work with the leapster 2 i am not sure if you knew that or not. But good luck hope this helps.

My daughters favortie game is Pet Pals for the leapster. She is 5 so she also loves a Kindergarten game that she has but the skills may be too advanced for a 3 1/2 year old. You might want to see if they have a preschool one. I thought I would hate watching her play a hand held game at 3 when she got it but it has taught her so much and really done wonders for her fine motor skills. Enjoy.

My daughter has had her Leapster since 3, and her favorite game is probably the Princess one. The only game I didn't like was the draw and write game. If you don't make the letters, just right, it will tell you it is wrong. The game told me that I made a D wrong. She uses it to draw with which is fine. I think Leapster is a great choice. My daughter has had it for 3 years now and still plays with it.
