Which Game System Would Be Best?

I have a son who will be 7 in January, a girl who will be 4 in January and they are both wanting a DS. But they are just too expensive for me to buy them both one. Also, especially for my girl, I don't think there are really any games that would be for her age. I have been seeing alot for smaller kids and wondering if those would be better. Leap Frog, V-tec, and there are a couple of others. I would like to know from you guys which one I would get the most out of my money. I home school so most of the games they play already on the computer are educational. I would like to have the one that does the most and would be good for both ages. Thank you guys, you have always been real helpful.

What can I do next?

My youngest dd got a Leapster from her grandparents when she was 3. My oldest got a DS that same year. Youngest dd played her sister's DS way more than the Leapster. Her grandparents got her a DS when she was 4.

While dd did play her Leapster occasionally, her DS was by far her fave. She has tons of games for it whereas she only has 3 for the Leapster (she never asked for more games for the Leapster). Dd is now 7 and still plays her DS. The Leapster hasn't been played in at least 2 years.

My daughter just turned 4 and has a Leapster. She LOVES it and asks to play with it all of the time. The reason I like the Leapster is because it isn't just games, it is also teaching her how to write her letters, match shapes/numbers/letters, etc. She has 4 games for it right now (there are more I could purchase for her age, I am just waiting for Santa to get them for her) and the Disney Princess one (Cinderella & Ariel) is by far her favorite. She also has Pet Pals which she loves to play because she can make the dogs do tricks and wash them. I haven't looked to see if there are a lot of games for 7 year olds, as I haven't reached that age yet. :)

When I was researching what video system to get her, I read that the Tag (pen) was cheaply made. You can also only store a certain amount of books on the memory card, so when your child wants another book, you have to erase a previous book.

I have no regret about buying her a Leapster and I have recommended it to several people. One of my favorite features is the fact that you can plug it into your home computer and see where she is at educational wise and what areas she has grown in since starting to play it.

Good luck! I hope this helps.

I love the Leapster for my 3.5 year old. My daughter found a couple of Black Friday ads and it shows that WalMart is going to be selling them for $25 that day.

My boyfriend has a 3.5 yr old and we are planning on getting her a Mobigo for Christmas...it says it's for ages 3-8, so your son may be getting too old for it, but it's only about $60...way cheaper than other game systems! We play the sample one at the store almost every time we're there (she gets to play it at the end of the shopping trip if she's good). It's very educational and they have Disney games to go with it.
