So I am thinking about getting my DD who turned 3 in October the Leaster 2? Hoever the age on it says 4-8. But many people who've reviewed it have mentioned their 3yo using it. I am wondering what everyone who have used it think? Is it worth getting? Do your kids like it? My DD is pretty smart and can use the Wii and so I am thinking she could probably use this.
My 4.5 yo is delayed and functions around a 3-3.5 yo. He loves his Leapster that he got for his birthday in July. He has Dora, Diego, and Cars. I'd totally recommend it for a 3yo.

So, I would guess it would not be an issue~ little kids just have that knack, you know? :)
My son got a Leapster when he was three and a Leapster 2 when he was four. He loved them and had no problems with either. (They're basically the same thing. The Leapster 2 is just an updated version of the original.) The Leapster 2 was purchased because he had chewed the pen so severely on the original that it no longer worked. Then after about six months, the Leapster 2 completely malfunctioned. We didn't save the warranty info and receipt, so we can't get it replaced. Dumb, dumb, dumb!!! Enough rambling. I would absolutely recommend the Leapster 2 for a three year old, just be sure to register it and save all of the paperwork!
My daughter got it when she turned 3. She never really got into the games for it...but did like the coloring game. (Its not because she didn't know how to use it, she's just not much into video games)
My nephew got it when he was aroun 3 1/2-4 years old and he outgrew it at 5 because the games got too easy.
From the sounds of it, I think your daughter would love it. If anything just don't buy a lot of games for it yet.
My daughter got the original Leapster for her 4th birthday. She has the PetPals, Princess, Ratatoille and Kindergarten games. She's loved the PetPals game and the coloring game (preloaded) from the beginning. She's just now starting to master the others at the age of 6. With that being said, I would never describe her as a "gamer" kind of kid. She'll play with it for 45 mins at a time and put it away. We never have to take it away from her. I would buy it again for her.

My now 6 year old got the original Leapster a few years back and has played it a lot. My 3 year old loves playing it. He plays it more than my 6 year old now. He loves the game Pet Pals. You basically take care of an animal. There is a section of the game where you have to trace all the letters and he really likes that. He also likes the game Wall-E. For Christmas Santa is getting him another game. I think she would like it.

I would probably hold off a little longer. We got our daugther one last year when she turned 5, we thought she was ready because she really enjoyed the lap top from Vtech as well as the doodle and draw from V-tech. However, she used a little and had no problem understanding what to do with it but the word games were not fun because while she knew several words she still could not put it together on her own-she did like the number game we had for it and could do the first level but still struggled with it. Now that she is in Kindergarten she is always playing it and is actually enjoying it and asked for more games this year. Also we have a friend who bought the leapster at around 3.5-4 and the daughter ripped out the cord for the stylus for writing.
I do recommend the lap top from V-tech it comes with 20 plus learning games installed in it and is in the right age range for your daughter.
I think this would have to depend on your child's temperament...if you think she is mature enough to be responsible for an expensive electronic toy. We got the leapster for my son with ADHD for Christmas when he was 4, almost 5, and we had to watch him constantly for the first year whenever he played with it or it would have been destroyed. My brother bought each of his kids a nintendo ds last Christmas and his youngest was only 4 at the time. I thought he was crazy, but apparently my nephew did ok with it. Or, at least it still works, cuz he asked for more games for this Christmas! :-)
Anyway, my son loves his, although being almost 7, he goes through the games pretty quick now. The games have different levels, so if you get the ones for ages 4 and up, she should do fine.
My son loves his leapster and he learns alot from it. I would also recommend the v smile. I think that has taught my son alot more.
