I am in search of a sound machine for baby's room. Something that plays music, nature sounds, etc. A lot of the reviews on some I found on Target (ie baby einstein sea dreams lullaby soother) state that the machine stops working.

Do you have one you recommend?

What can I do next?

I SWEAR by these things....

it has a projector and a timer so it doesn't play all night. This is my go-to baby gift and we own 3 of them for different rooms/travel, etc.

We have a HomeMedics sound machine in my daughter's room. It has lullaby, heartbeat, nature and one other one. It also has a projector is your child likes to look at stuff before drifting off. Ours was a gift, but I think it came from Kohl's. We love it!! Good luck!!

I am similar, to the S.S. We found our humidifier, to soothe my son more then anything! Our alarm clock has a white noise setting and that was also very effective. I've heard really great things, about Cloud B music/noise products. They sell them in Babies R Us. We have the Twilight Turtle (doesn't play noise, just a nightlight.) and it's awesome! Very good quality.

My son was colic and had a hard time relaxing to sleep. We bought a Rock Garden that had running water. My son still loves it and still turns it on every night. It always relaxes him! The sound of the water created the "white noise" too.

Have you considered a fan? We used a fan in our dauhters room when she was a baby. She didn't like the sound machine, it didn't seem to make any difference as far as covering other noises or getting her to go to sleep on her own. One day when our central air had some issues we put the fan in the room. She was not so sensitive to sounds of the house anymore and went to sleep on her own.
She ended up using it till she about 2 1/2. It gives a great soothing white noise sound, if you oscillate it makes more.
It also has been found to greatly reduce they chance of SIDs somehow. I don't remeber the specifics, but I know it was by a substantial amount. I'm sure you could look it up, I heard it from more than one news source.
We just pointed it away from her at an opposite wall so there was no direct air was being blown on her. Different settings depending on the coolness of the room or weather.
I hope you find something that works for your baby. They all are so different!

We have one from Sharper Image. I was $100+ but has lasted us 6-7 years. And its on every single night in my sons room. We use white noise instead of nature sounds just because it drowns out EVERYTHING!

I used an iHome, and just put nature tracks on an iPod. Love the sound of the ocean... That way, it can be used in different areas or when the child gets older.

conair makes one. It's great and has everything. It has a clock and regular radio but then it has all kinds of soothing sleep sounds. Like white noise, rain, summer night (like crickets), ocean waves, thunderstorm and singing birds. My daughter has had it for about 2 years now and it works just great. Stays on all night. And like I said it's also a regular clock radio so it plugs into the wall so no need for batteries.

Ours is a conair, but in our girl's rooms we use fans. With Christmas coming up in a few months, more and more gadgets like that will be coming out. When you do buy one, make sure you take it out of the box and check for a timer switch; some will play all night until you turn it off, some are automatic.

We have used the homedics one that has a projection screen. it plays music and ocean waves, but we only use the ocen waves at night. it stays on until you turn it off. we have never used the projection. I paid 20 for it at bed bath and beyond and we have used it every day for 13 hours at night since my son was born. He is 17 months now. It is great!

I've bought sound machines but over time, I've realized that the air purifier that I have in my baby's room works the best! It gives off white noise -- i bought it for its air cleaning properties but it really doubles as a sound machine..it seems to lull my son much more than the stuff I bought for the purpose..

I used Dex Products Sound Sleeper. It has numerous different sounds and a sleep timer or you can just leave it on the "on" position.

Good luck!
