Noise in Nursery

Hello, I have a 15 month old daughter. We have central air in our home but in our old house, the upstairs remains burning up.
As my girl was born in July, she has had a room air conditioner in her room since birth. Problem is, now it is getting cold and she can't sleep without the noise. I put her in a halo sleep sack, but her hands get too cold and I won't let her have a blanket in bed with her as she seems to always end up tangled and with it over her face. Has anyone used a white noise machine? Or, does anyone have a CD player that stays on repeat so classical music would play all night? She really prefers sleeping by a tv but i guess that would be awful parenting to give my infant her own tv! Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.

We have a fan in my 20 month old's room. She's had a fan in her room since she came home from the hospital. The circulating air can actually help to reduce SIDS, not that you have to worry about that now. Also, if you want to give her a blanket, you may want to try a baby afghan. My mom made one for my dd and it has large enough holes that if goes over her head, she can breath through it. In fact, you can see through it. It doesn't do much to keep her warm, but she does love her bleeblee! :D

How about just a fan? Both of my kids sleep with one on in their room and I love it because when we have people over, we don't have to worry about being super quiet.

Those halo sleep sacks are great. Our youngest (2 years) loves her pj's with the feet in them. It's almost as if she can't get comfortable until she has those on in the evening.

We have an air treatment system in our kids room, as well as a cool mist humidifier. Both provide some "white noise". My oldest and I watch 5 "short shows" (about a 10-15 minute mini episode of shows she likes to watch) before she goes to bed...but she's 5.

You could also just get a little fan or something.

Good luck!

We use a white noise machine every night for our little guy Sam. I would chose one that has a couple of different settings so you can change them as your little girl changes prefferences. Sam likes the 'rainshower' noise. Maybe next weeek he'll like the sea waves. Who knows? =) We leave it on whenever he's sleeping.
We have an old house as well and have a real hard time controlling the upstair bedroom's temperatures too. There's only ONE vent in the hallway for all three rooms! We've started putting a small temperature controlled heater in his room to keep him comfy enough. It's newer and quiet and safe and we can put Sam in some footy pajamas and a sweater and he's good to go. The heater just turns on when the temp goes lower than 65 degrees.
And my thoughts on your tv in your daughters room: Whatever helps her. Whatever gets you through the night. She is not going to be harmed by infomercial overload or anything. She doesn't even know what the images are at this point in her life. Perhaps put it on a timer to make yourself feel better. But I say, if it works for you, go with it.

Good luck and congratulations on your little angel.

I have had a fan in my kids room since day 1. In the cold days I still have it in there just have it facing in the closet to not be so cold in room BUT I also have a heater in their room. My daughter has had a radio in her room from day 1 as well I have a lullaby CD with her name in it she LOVES to listen to my son who is 1 is not into the radio that much so I just stick to his lullaby bear that plays for 15 min ad the fan. Good Luck.

Both of my girls, who are now 4 and 2, have air cleaner type fans in their rooms and they both fall asleep listening to CD's. My 2-year-old has an infant style music box that hangs on the rail of her crib and she can turn it on herself if she wants/needs to. She's probably been able to turn it on since she was about 12-18 months old.

it sounds like she is used to the "white noise" of the ac blower so I would just use a fan. You can get a small table fan or a box fan that will make a very similar noise. I would definitely not get her in the habit of sleeping with a tv. I won't say whether or not that's "bad" but professionals say no one should go to sleep with a tv, least of all a young child.

Bed, Bath, and Beyond carries a nature sounds combo clock radio that is fantastic. It has many features we love:

-7 different nature sounds (we use 'ocean' to put our baby to sleep)
-a 'sleep timer' for 15, 30, and 60 minutes so they can go to sleep with the noise but then it turns off
-a clock that 'projects' the time on the ceiling (he doesn't use it, but it was so helpful for me during those early months of night feedings)
-a radio in case you wanted to play music during the day
-temperature sensor so you know the temp in the room

If you don't have a BBB store nearby, you can always go to their website. Good luck to you!

We run a humidifier every night once the heat is turned on in the house. This makes a humming noise. We also keep a desk fan going on the floor, pointed away from their bed so it doesn't blow on them. My husband and I still sleep with a fan going for our own "white noise". We even take one with us on trips LOL.
