My son is 5 days old and is sneezing. He does this several times a day and his doctor also is not concerned. He said that babys do this to clear there nose and are getting used to all the dust, pollens, and other things in the air.
Your cat may be making your baby sneeze, but just like everything else your baby will probably get used to it too. I would be concerned if you see signs of trouble breathing.
My newborn did this too. I think I remember something about still trying to clear amniotic fluid out of the lungs. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
No need to worry at all!! The baby has no other way to clear out anything that might be bothering her in her nose etc, so this is how their bodies protect them and help keep things clean. I am now on newborn number 4 in our house, and she does it all the time too. Enjoy your little girl!! ~A.~
Hey Kathleen!
Congrats on your new baby girl, aren't they the best? Campbell was the same way, and while I am not a dr--I would just keep in mind that their baby noses are VERY sensitive to things. Whether it's something they smell, or something actually in their nose, the slightest thing can irritate their nose and make them sneeze! I felt like Campbell was sneezing a lot too for a time...just something to think about!
Good luck...

First of all, congrats to you and your new baby!! My daughter did this, but the Pedi told us it was normal, because the are still trying to clear everything out of their little systems from birth and that the would not likely develop allergies yet. My husband and I both have horrible allergies so we were concerned. She got over it after some time. Now, I'm awaiting her real allergy attacks to come along now that she's 14 months old..time will tell! She does sneeze sometimes, but that's about it right now :) Nothing to worry about yet for you though...this is completely normal. Enjoy every moment of your little one...the snuggles won't last too long :) I love my little active girl, but I miss my little snuggly baby :) It's the best, just enjoy and don't worry too much :)
Allergies generally can't be detected until a child is 2 yrs old. That's not to say that your daugther isn't allergic to your cats; however, it's more likely that her sneezing is just the normal adjustment for newborns (both my kids sneezed quite a bit the first few weeks). I definitely would give it a few weeks before making any changes with regard to your cats.
Good luck, and enjoy your new little one!
