My 11 month old is constantly rubbing her eyes and i was just wondering if anyone elses child has done this. I plan to bring it up at her one year check up but until then just thought i would ask....
When we moved here my son began rubbing his eyes and nose all of the time. After a year of this I switched Dr. 's and my new Dr. switched him from Zyrtec to Singulair and he's been fine ever since.

my six month old also rubs his eyes a lot but mostly when he is tired, or just woken up. as he sleeps offen for shot naps he rubs his eyes a lot.

when you go for your one year check up, ask the doctor about allergies. Babies don't tend to get them until after 6 months old, but after that they can be allergic to dust and cats.
What do her eyes look like? Are they always red or irritated looking? Are they swollen? It could be allergies (I know I sneezing alot). Is she sneezing/coughing? It may not warrant a trip to the peds office but maybe you could drop a call to the nurse at the office and get some advice. Good luck.
Dear E., I'm a retired RN. Mostly likely, it is allergy related. Her eyes probably itch. Call her doctor's office and ask nurse how you should best take care of baby's eyes. D. G
Is her eyes dry? Or she could be allergic to something like the detergent. Try a humidifier-it is very dry in winter. Also is she getting enough water? Oue bodies oare 78% water-that could cause ithcy eyes-dryness.Make sure you keep her hands washed-non-antibiotic soap-you don't want to remove her normal bacteria.
With the crazy weather in NC it could be allergies. That would be something to ask the doctor.

for him, it turned out to be allergies (to laundry detergents, cleaning products, pollen, mold, etc)
If she just started doing it within the past few weeks, it could be seasonal allergies!
Does she rub her nose at all? This might be an allergy problem. Another thing to look for is darkness underneath the eyes. My granddaughter had to go on Zyrtec as an infant, but her nose was what she rubbed.
E. ~ It could be allergies, but it could also be that her eyes are dry due to excessive tear productions and blocked tear ducts. Yes, excessive tear production can cause the eyes to be dry. I would take her to her pediatrician get a referral to both a pediatric ophthalmologist and an allergy clinic. The two could be related, but both are treatable.

It might be she has something bothering her eyes. A scum. Look to see. Or maybe her sight is not clear. I would make sure the Doctor looks.

My 5 month use to do the same thing and we found out that she had allergies. He eyes were itching, thus causing her to rub them. She was put on zertyc (spelling?), which can now be purchased over the counter. Good Luck!

my daughter did not rub her eyes but had "lazy eye" it came out of the blue. she had surgery to correct the problem. this has been going on since she was 2. We caught it early on, so don't wait. Try to get her to a good eye doctor as soon as possible. One that works with Children.
I HAVE A 1 YR OLD GRANDSON WHO RUBS HIS EYES WHEN HE HAS AN EAR INFECTION PLUS HIS NOSE WILL RUN A LITTLE BIT. HAVE YOU TALKED TO THE DOCTOR ABOUT THIS? dO YOU HAVE PETS IN THE HOUSE? MY OTHERS GRANDSONS ARE ALLERGIC TO MY CATS AND I HAVE TO GIVE THEM BENADRYL WHEN THEY COME AND THEY DON'T RUB THEIR EYES ANYMORE. cOULD BE ALLERGIES OR EAR INFECTION. BUT I WOULD CHECK WITH YOUR PEDIATRICIAN FIRST. HOPE I HELPED IN SOME WAY. GOD BLESS.
Have you thought about allergies? I know that as an allergy sufferer myself, my eyes are extremely itchy when exposed to certain items. Outdoor things can trigger it or even perfume, dye in clothing, etc. I know that when I am in a department store my eyes itch and I blink in excess. Have you noticed any nose drainage or cough that goes with it? Just a thought.
My best guess would be allergies as well. It happens to the best of us! haha

Please have this checked out soon. It could simply be a case of "dry eyes" where she doesn't retain tears as she should. This can easily be corrected with Refresh eye drops in the am and maybe an eye ointment at night time. Eyes tend to dry out during sleep either at nap time or during the night. If she is rubbing her eyes after waking up this is a sure indication. My son has benefited greatly from using wetting tears in the am and an eye ointment at night. If she sleeps more than an hour for nap she would need wetting tears upon wakening. Hope this helps, A. Burnette, Hillsborough, NC
I am not a doctor, but if I had to quick guess, I would say she is tired or suffering from allergies. Does she have a dark color under her eyes, sneeze often, have a wet cough, clear runny nose?? My child has had allergies pretty much since he was born. At one year old he was prescribed one half a teaspoon of Zyrtec at bedtime. It just became available OTC last month, so you cold get the children's grape flavored liquid and try it. He was tired in the morning for the first few days, but he adjusted and it seems to really help him a lot. Good luck!
