My daughter watched Power Rangers recently at a playdate. I was not thrilled, but she loved it and asked if we could get it from the library. I looked into and decided, NO WAY. Anyone know of anything similar, but more appropriate for a 5 year old? We are very conservative about what she watches, and do not have cable. We prefer only G rated movies for her.
Thanks! I will check those out. I think she would LOVE Bible Man. We do watch PBS a lot and love all the shows. I think she was intrigued by the "real" people in it. She is wanting to get more into "bigger girl" shows, but most of them aren't good for her.
I second superhero squad:) also I don't know your stance on watching religious shows but bible man is the same thing except it teaches about the bible and always sends a good message. My son LOVES bible man.
Ugh. I can't believe that show is STILL around. Forget about all the punching and kicking, the acting and writing is just so, SO stupid and awful!
For what it's worth my own son went through a Power Rangers phase (he was also exposed to it by a friend) and LOVED it, at the age of 4.
I am happy to report he is now at age 19 a thriving and well adjusted college sophomore, lots of friends, and has never been violent in any way.
I think dumb TV is like junk food, let them have it once in a while, because you don't want it to become a hidden obsession, or something they hide from you. As long as a good 90% of what she's exposed to is quality stuff, be it food or entertainment, she will be fine :)
Power Puff girls maybe? It's got action in it like Power Rangers, but I find it's a really cute show. I know a lot of little girls who like that one..
I grew up on He-man, GI Joe, Jem, and Thundercats, and I have a boy. He loves Spongebob, and the Ninjago shows.So I probably am not much help. I can say that PBS has some really good shows on all day long. My son adored the " In between the Lions" and Superfly or Word girl..Or the one where they build words..That was cute!
Yeah, it's hard. My son and daughter watched that at grandma's house and I agree, it's not always the best. It's hard to find those action shows that aren't so violent. I do agree that Word Girl on PBS is great! It's really cute and totally appropriate, in fact there really isn't a PBS show my kids don't love.
Superhero Squad is also really cute and not as violent, I wouldn't consider it totally tame either, but it's worth a look. It's all about Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Silver Surfer when they are like kids/teenagers. It's pretty cute and my kids like that too.
My one son was into Power Rangers too. I thought the funniest part was the one 'baddie', Rita. The tv show was Japanimation in human form. Totally schlocky.
There's Veggie Tales. It's a pretty popular kids entertainment. And with good values put in place.
What thrills kids and makes us moms cringe is unending. My youngest was into Dexter's Lab. And Pokemon. It'd drive me nuts how totally stupid some of the stuff was done that they'd watch. I'd see a lot of the CartoonTV shows go through. I put my foot down with Beavis and Butthead. They still managed to sneak the piece of junk in. Fortunately I was able to get my kids to enjoy some of what I watched as a kid, like Disney's Zorro or the old Jonny Quest (that led to watching the newer Jonny Quest where everyone's all grown up)
