Severe Pain/contraction of Uterus - Afraid to Google It!

Please help! I am fairly sure I ovulated on Wednesday or Thursday. Last night (Friday) DH and I had sex. About two hours later I woke up with the most excruciating pain -- it felt worse than contraction like when i was in labor (I am not pregnant!). It lasted a long time, maybe 15 minutes or so. I guess maybe I would describe it as feeling like a Charlie Horse in my uterus! I kind of hobbled into the bathroom and tried to sit on the toilet but couldn't sit. I ended up laying down on the bathroom floor and kind of pressing my belly into the tile because it was cold (not sure if this helped but it made sense at 2 a.m.!). Eventually it subsided into an ache and I was able to get back to bed -- although I couldn't make it downstairs for Motrin or a heat pad. When I stood up I was extremely dizzy and felt like I was going to throw up.

I have NO IDEA what the heck happened. I was seriously considering making DH take me to the ER. It was definitely not an external muscle cramp, it was inside. Today I still feel some soreness in there. I had a c-section almost 3 years ago. I've never experienced anything like this other than when I was in labor, and even that wasn't this painful. Any ideas? Is it possible I was just ovulating and it was like super painful? I am scared to Google it! Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, all. The results are (finally) in and the verdict is excess scar tissue / adhesions from my C-section. My doctor said intercourse likely jostled the area and caused the pain. She said laproscopic surgery could help, but it would be smarter to wait if we're planning another baby in the near future until after the pregnancy, or if I need another C-section they can just cut away the scar tissue at that time.

Please get to a doctor...I had an inguinal hernia that felt exactly like you describe--it was hard to diagnose because it didn't bulge like you'd think a hernia would. I had it for a long time before diagnosis (had several trips to the doc)--but you won't know what it is until you go!

It could be an ovarian cyst that popped or something....but I would definitely visit your doc. Pain like you describe is not normal. I hope you feel better!

You do know you have other organs in there, right? Call your doctor or go to the ER. This is nothing to take lightly.

I wonder if this is early gallbladder disease. This kind of thing happened to my sister. Pain that goes away it happened 2-3 times. The 4 the time however it did not go away just got progressively worse over a period of 2 hours. Finally she went to the er and had emergency surgery because her gallbladder ruptured. I would definitely get it checked out. I think you can treat gallbladder disease and prevent removing the organ if you catch it early enough.

Google can't look at you..... we aren't looking at you. Please let your doctor look at you! Otherwise you're going to continue to worry, and if something needs to be done it won't be.

This is NOT something to take lightly....I would call the nurse on-call with your Primary Care Physician or OB and tell them exactly what you told us.

It is NOT normal...you don't need to google it - you need to see your doctor...

GOOD LUCK!

I can't believe people are confidently diagnosing you in postings on Mamapedia. "It's a cyst." "It's was just gas." "It was your bowel." "It was your gallbladder."

We. Are. NOT. Doctors. This could have been nothing (gas that is gone) or something (tumor, cyst, whatever). Minor or gravely serious. If it hurt so much that you were lying on the bathroom floor, even if it does turn out be just gas, you need to see the doctor. Even if it IS as simple as gas, you may have digestive issues that are serious if they're causing gas to be that painful. And if it's not gas-- wouldn't you rather know, so you can get treatment? I know you're scared to look it up and you were fine on the treadmill today, but why didn't you call the doctor the very next morning isntead of posting?

Sorry, but I don't understand the many, many women who post symptoms here, some far less painful that what you describe, and who seem afraid to see the doctor. Maybe they, and you, are scared to be told "It was nothing" and afraid they'll look silly to a doctor. But you pay for your insurance; use it, get what you are paying for, and who cares what the doctor thinks. Please get checked out for your kids' sake if not for your own.

That doesn't sound normal:( Personally, I'd call the on-call nurse through your OB/GYN's office and explain what happened. Have you had any unexplained bleeding today?

It's a cyst on your uterus or ovary that ruptured. It's not that big of a deal, I'm not saying it doesn't hurt because believe me I've been there a few times and it hurts like h@#!, when I say it's no big deal I mean there's probably no reason to go running to your OB/GYN. If it would make you feel better call and ask for the nurse to return your call that you have a question for them, but I'd bet anything that is what it is.

The first time it happened to me it was also after having sex and I woke up in pain, got out of bed and couldn't decide if I was going to puke or pass out. Waited it out for awhile, it eventually went to more of a cramping thing, then by morning it was gone. I happened to be going for my annual exam so after that so I mentioned it to them and that's what they said it was after doing an internal ultrasound.

Even if you are feeling better today - I would still make an appointment to see my OB/GYN for this week. I don't think that's normal at all.

I probably would've had my husband take me to urgent care Saturday morning...

I hope you are better

Well, the uterus is a muscle.
Maybe you were having spasms after intimacy.
You might want to mention it to your GYN.
I had pain after intimacy and found out that I had an ovary the size of a grapefruit which had to be removed.

Get a checkup just to be sure.

It was probably your bowels more than anything. Glad you are fine today. Gas pain can be pretty excruciating at times but it generally always passes.

Could you be constipated? If not, then it should probably be checked out ASAP by a doctor or midwife.

I'm sorry to hear this. This is the why I felt when I had endometriosis. I would schedule an appt. with a gyno and ask for an ultrasound to be screened for cysts.
