Seeking Pediatric Dentist That Lets Parents Stay with Kids

Hello moms,

It has come to my attention that supposedly "every dentist" refuses to allow parents to go with their children during their dental visits. Well I am not comfortable letting my 2.5 year old out of my site with strangers just yet. Does anyone know of a dentist that allows parents to stay with their children during the visit? I would prefer the Arlington/Mansfield area but will travel far for what I want. Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

It would be far for you, but Dr. McAnthony in Keller is amazing. I have a 3 year old and would no way let him go in alone to any doctor. That is crazy. Her staff is patient and she has even convinced him to cooperate with teeth brushing by telling him about "sugar bugs." The number is ###-###-####.

Someone else mentioned Dr. Sullivan in Mansfield, and my boys go to her. Her office is extremely kid friendly, and parents are expected to go back with the children. I can't imagine not going back with my 5 year old. It might be different with my 11 year old, but when they are little why wouldn't they want parents there to hear all the instructions, answer questions, and help keep children calm if they get nervous. I've never heard of a dentist not wanting parents going back with children. Crazy . . .

You might try just a family dentist they will let you stay in the room and even sit in the chair with your child.

Hi L.!

I always assumed all pediatric dentists would WANT parents there. My kids LOVE going to Davis Pediatric Dentistry (in Southlake Town Square) and I have ALWAYS gone back with both of them. In fact, they have never once asked me to wait outside the room and I can hold my kids hands. When my youngest started going, they even had me sit in the chair with my son laying back on my lap to make him feel comforted. Also, they have a very colorful treatment area and have kids pick a video to watch while getting their teeth examined/cleaned so they aren't thinking about it too much. I highly recommend them if you live anywhere near Southlake! There number is ###-###-####.

Good luck to you!

J.

Dr. Deborah Sullivan in Mansfield does. I have been back with my kids on each visit - cleanings & fillings.

Hi L.,
I use Dr. Susan Roberts and LOVE her!!!!! I always go back with them :-)

My 4 year old and 3 year old sons both see Dr. Roberts. On both of their FIRST checkups at 12 months, she was able to do a full cleaning... she is great! They LOVE to brush their teeth and get excited to go to the dentist!!

They have toys in the waiting room, are very friendly and seem to love kids. She lets us hold them during their exam if they are scared and got toys as a reward on the way out! Very nice dentist! Her info is:

Roberts Susan Dds
