After my second child was born I want talked to my doctor about using an IUD as my birth control, well as of next week I will be at my 5 year mark and have to have it removed. I am alittle nervous about the procedure and just wanted to see if anyone out there has had an IUD removed and a new on inserted. Just wanted a little insight on the procedure. I have not had a menstral cycle since it has been inserted in 4/2003 and hoping no real side effects occur once I have it removed. Though my doctor says this is normal I am just wondering??? what I have to look forward to.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for there great advice and responses to my IUD. I had the procedure done today and it went good. The removal process was painless, however the reinserting part was a little over whelming at some points. Once again thanks to everyone it made my doctor visit less nerve racking than if I would have went without your insight!!! Have a wonderful day!!!

Its a piece of cake having removed- just a little tug. For me, it hurt alot more having it put in. My biggest problem was that I hadn't had any periods on mine, and then had a REALLY heavy one a couple of days after it taken out. But that's all.

Haven't had one removed. But I LOVE not having to deal with periods! Let us know how it goes.

Having my IUD removed was ok, but later I found out that my Left ovary ws covered in cyst and I had to have it removed.

I had the Mirena IUD (with hormones) removed four months after having it inserted due to incredibly bad acne. It was not painful at all when it was removed. Man I was so glad to get that thing out, and thankfully my skin quickly returned back to normal! Yes, vanity drove me to it, but I guess acne is a common but nil-explained side effect with hormone IUDs. If you want more info just google Mirena and Acne! Oodles of peeved women will tell all about it. Anyway, once your IUD is removed, just be careful if you don't want to get pregnant, but I'm sure your doctor will tell you that.

I had a Paragard (copper IUD) in place for about 7 years. Loved it. Had it taken out about a year and a half ago so my husband and I could start trying for a baby (21 weeks pregnant now). I had WAY less discomfort on removal than I did during insertion. It wasn't something I would want to do every day, but the feeling was really more disconcerting than anything else.

I had an IUD removed and it felt like pulling a tampon out. That was it! Simple and painless!
