Seeking a Wide Opening Potty for a Boy

My son is just beginning to show interest in potty training. For the past few weeks he's been asking to pee-pee on a potty. So we went and let him pick out a potty and tried it at home. However the opening was so small, it barely fit his butt. And the aweful shield in fron of the opening made it almost impossible for him to pee sitting down which I read is the way to go. Is there a potty with a wider opening? I did hear from some parents that it is sometimes better to just move the child right to the big potty with the cover. But he really wants to sit on his own little potty.
Thank you in advance for your advice.

If you are going to use the "big potty" (you guys are so funny!) and you are saying he likes his own little potty, maybe you can personalize the experience for him by getting him a really cool step stool. He could pick it, or better yet they always have those at the craft store unfinished. Design one with him?

My daughter also has the royal potty and it works well. It also comes apart where you can move the top part to the big potty and they can go on it without falling in. My friends son also likes the Peter Potty which is a mini urinal for boys. After seeing daddy going potty a few times he wanted to be like daddy of course and this has really furthered his potty training.

Hi Y.,
I have heard that the Kandoo seat is a good way to go. It is hard plastic and is a little wider. I also wanted to let you know that we taught my son to pee standing up and he took right to it. It is easy this way when they are Y., but it is VERY important to teach them to aim when they are peeing as soon as the potty training starts. My son is a little uncomfortable having to push on it....but he is starting to get use to it. He only sits when he goes #2. He feels like such a big boy when he pees...anyway hope this helps. Good luck.

We love the Baby Bjorn Potty from The EC Store. Here's a link:

Children of any age can use it. Even in a pinch, an adult can too! The pee gaurd doesn't move, so no mess about that. My son really likes it!

when imy 2 yera old started going on the potty i bought im one of the seats that fits right on top of the big toilet seat. he did ok wi that but he didn't like it for long. now he just stis on the big toilet and goes. I would suggest if your son isn't too afraid give letting him sit on the big pitty a chance if not the seats that go on top can be found anywhere(target, walmart, kmart) and the openiong they have is pretty big and the shield is removable. (with the removable shield also helps teach him how to hold his little winky and control where he goes)
