I haven't had the greatest luck with training potties. I had 2, but both of them leaked (or didn't catch the pee like with your son) when my sons used them. That can get really old, really fast. With both of my boys, I started off with them, but got so fed up. I ended up putting my kids on the regular toilet to use the restroom. I always put them on backwards facing the tank. Some people might think it strange, but that is the way they will face when standing up to pee. Also, many small kids feel unsafe sitting on the big toilet because they feel like they will fall in. There is no chance of that sitting the way I had my boys sit. My youngest, deciding to do it by himself, now stands up like a big boy to pee (obviously my 8 year old does too). It wasn't confusing to him at all. Also, if you use a potty chair and go over to someone's house without one, they are intimidated by the big toilet and you will probably have to use diapers constantly. One thing that is fun for them to do is to put a couple cheerios or fruit loops in the water as aiming targets. Then you can just flush them down! Well, I hope you find something that works well for you. Good luck potty training!
