My best friend is getting married later this year and we are searching for locations. She wants a very simple wedding in a beautiful setting. Is that even possible these days? My husband and I were married on the rooftop of a historic apartment building but we paid good money for it!
She would like for it to be in San Antonio or the surrounding areas. Her ideal wedding would take place outdoors near a lake or pond on beautiful property. She would even consider marrying on someone's personal property, and of course giving reasonable compensation for it, if the scenery is right. This won't be a large wedding...50 people at the absolute max, just close family and friends!
So do you know of a place like this? I always get such good advice from this site so I thought I would check here first.
My husband and I got married at the SA Botanical Gardens. They have a facility for evening weddings but it is expensive. We planned a small afternoon wedding and got married under the Wisteria Arbor. It was not expensive at all. Only problem is that they do not have chairs etc so guests have to stand and they don't close the park so others are there but they just watched from afar. Might be something to look into for her.

How about Los Patios, or the Botanical Gardens? You could ask if they will let you have it at the McNay Musem also. Just a few ideas, I am not sure about the cost.
I believe it's called "marriage island" it's on the riverwalk by the westin hotel. I've heard great things about it and it's for small intimate weddings. I'm sure if you google it something will come up. Good luck
My brother got married at the Sunken Gardens several years back and it was beautiful. Can't have a whole lot of people as there is not much room to stand but it was so nice. There is an area higher up where folks can stand and observe. They had the reception elsewhere. The Sunken Gardens just reopened after rennovations and is a nice place. There is also the Little Wedding Chapel on N.W. Military Dr. - McNay, Witte etc. all charge high fees. If it is small don't forget the wedding island downtown on the river.

Try the Vineyards in Garden Ridge. It is a quaint restaurant with a wedding chapel in the vineyard. I really don't know the price range, though. Good luck.

I do not know of a place by a lake or pond, but, there are
two possibilities, Little Church of LaVillita and the
Sunset Ridge Church of Christ Chapel!
The Chapel at Sunset Ridge was built by the Woodmen of the
World and is a gorgeous setting. My wife and I married there
51 years ago and at that time it was still the Woodmen chapel.
Since the Church of Christ purchased it and our son was
married there.
