is it ok to just go to a pumpkin patch and just take pics of ur baby around the pumpkins or do I need to ask someone there first? This is my 1st year going so I don't know the rules before I just start shooting away like I'm @ my own photoshoot :) thanks

What can I do next?

Well, I have been to three and only the one owned by a family REQUIRED us to ask. In fact, they make it clear we need to not take photos of their set ups, just photos of the kids. ??? they are out of business this year.

They are there for the pictures, many have photo shoot spots set up, so no need to ask. But it's always nice and courteous to support the patch by purchasing a pumpkin or something. Some have food pantry donations too, so find out and bring a can of corn if so. Have fun!

We just went today. Everyone was taking pictures and so where we. I don't think I would not go to a place that would be iffy about taking family pics while you're picking pumpkins... I mean it's not like they are in the process of developing the iPumpkin 5.0 right?

We went just for the pics, ended up getting a little pumpkin and a butternut squash for dinner for my little one too though. The one close to our house was packed with people taking pics, I'm pretty sure the plan on it!

Where we go, there's a whole pumpkin festival. We pick our pumpkins, take our pictures, drink some cider, do the maze, etc. I think if it's just a patch, then find a small pumpkin for the kid, to support the backdrop for next year.

Maybe it depends on the size of the patch, but we went to the one at Cal Poly Pomona this weekend and it was packed with people taking pictures. I think if you go to one that has other activities, it's fine. You might feel less comfortable if it's just a stand on a corner where there will be Christmas trees on November 1.

We go to a church one where they have hayrides and a patch and such. No need to ask at a place like that. We always buy a few small pumpkins afterward.

totally fine. especially if you have to PAY to get in, PAY for the pumkins, and PAY to do the "fun" stuff...you better dang well get your pictures! my brother and his gf just took four kids to the pumpkin patch here, and even without pumpkins, and even with us giving them twenty bucks, they STILL paid seventy bucks before it was over. so friggen ridiculous.

Just pretend like your shopping for a pumpkin, take the pics, and then leave empty handed.

Yes, it should be okay (we've never had a problem) - but the nice thing to do would be to buy something from the pumpkin patch before you leave ;)
