I agree with all the other post in that you must make sure they are showing signs of being ready. If they are then the best thing that worked for us was to set a timer for every 15 minutes. Take them to the bathroom and make them sit to get used to it. If they go then give them a sticker on a chart. It really works. My daughter was totally ready to be potty trained and with this system she was trained in 2 days!!! She rarely has accidents and tells me when it is stime to go!! It really was an easy process becasue she was ready to take that step. My daughter is 2 1/2 years old. She started showing signs this summer and is now completely potty trained.
Good luck!!!

Great question. First off, if you attempt to potty train before they show all the readiness signs then it may backfire or take a really long time. Both of my kids were so different when it came to potty train, so that is another thing, you are talking about training two, at two different ages - they may respond differently.

I found the book The No Cry Potty Solution by Elizabeth Pantley to be a lifesaver. After reading it, and learning my son was more than ready, the actual potty training was done in a day or two. Had I started 6 mos earlier - it may have taken me 6 mos and obviously I would have been frustrated. I highly recommend the book if you can get your hands on it - it's a good read!

Best wishes,
M.

what i have been doing with my daughter (starting at 18 months) who is just shy of 20 months is taking her to her potty every 30 mins and having her sit there till she goes. when she goes she gets a candy (after dinner mint because they are soft no chocolate). also when she is at home she is only in panties so she knows right away if she has an accident. she only wears pullups for bed and when we leave the house. my game plan is to get her potty trained at home then worry about everywhere else. as long as they are showing the readiness signs to want to use a potty then go ahead and move forward. good luck!

The key is not to start before they are ready. They are all different. What works best is put them in underwear not pull ups so they can actually feel when they are wet. Most kids don't like the feeling and will learn quickly. Also, we used a jar of m&m's in the bathroom one for trying 2 for peeing and 3 for making a poop. Good luck!! Ohh if you are afraid of the mess you can put the undies under the diaper or pullup so they feel the wet with out the mess. Also keep a potty close by where they spend most of the time playing kids don't like to stop playing. Also, take them every 15 to 20 mins and have them sit on the potty it will happen be patient.
