Hello everyone. I am going crazy playing the waiting game to find out if I am pregnant or not. I would like to know the experiences of other woman. I removed my mirena IUD ( I had it 4 Years) May 13, 2009. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant. He is in and out to sea with the Navy so we are not getting as many chances to try. My period has not started yet. I have not had a period in so long I can't remember what to expect. I know that I do not have any of the symptoms I use to have when I did have a period. I took 2 pregnancy test that have come back neg, The last one I took was about 10 days ago. I have been spotting over the past couple days, but nothing really. I have soreness in my breasts and a little tired. I am always tired though so not sure if that is a symptom.
I stated working out 4 months ago, but continued to have normal spotting while IUD was in. I figured that I would get my period right away after having it removed. I figured that not having real period in 4+ years would trump my physical activity. So I have in the back of my mind that maybe I have not gotten my period b/c of new workout routine. I have always been fit and athletic and never lost my period during heavy physical fitness.
So I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I am also wondering how long I should wait to go to the doctor. I don't know when I would have a missed period to take a pregnancy test. I don't want to keep wasting test trying to figure out when I would have missed my period. Any advice would be great. Thanks

I would go to a doctor just because sometimes you can't tell if you are pregnant through a test. My sister in law has to get a blood test to find out if she is prego or not. Maybe you might not be far along enough to tell yet. Sometimes it can be a want pregnancy, where you get the symptoms and no period, because your body thinks you're pregnant, but you're really not. I have been through one of those. Tiredness was one of my pregnancy symptoms, which is one of the reasons why I knew I was pregnant with my daughter. Good luck.

Hi I.,
Although I have not used an IUD, I do know that after you stop any form of birth control that it takes a while for your hormones and your cycle to regulate. Your cycle may take a few months to get back to it's routine. I know that when I stopped using the pill it took my body almost 4 months to return to normal.

Hi, I just got my Mirena out at the end of March. I didn't get my period exactly a month later but maybe six weeks or so after. It was really weird the first time too. First I spotted for a week off and on, then I bled pretty heavy for a week or so. I think it just was taking a little while for my body to figure things out again after not having a period. The good news is that even with that weird period I got pregnant the next month! I have no idea when I really ovulated since my cycle was so weird but whatever happened, it must have worked out. I would say maybe give it another week or two, maybe take another pregnancy test and if you still don't have a period I'd call the doctor. Good luck!

Honestly every body is different. Some women's cycles pick up right away after IUD removal, and some don't. It sounds like you may need some time for things to get back to "normal". You can track your cycle either with OPK's which will let you know when you're fertile, or try taking your firt morning temperature every day and inputting it in a website like FertilityFriend.com or MyMonthlyCycles.com. Either way will let you know what your body's doing and where you are in your cycle. Good luck. I plan to have mine removed next year so I'll be in your shoes then. :)
