I am a sahm. I have been since November when I was laid off. I worked in the Real Estate Field. Well my daughter is 7 weeks old as of yesterday. My hubby has been the sole income for our family. Well needless to say things are starting to spiral down hill. He is stressed all the time. I think he is starting to get majorly depressed. We also have a 9 year old son. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can help to ease our financial situation? We have run numbers and for me to go somewhere to work would cost more because of having a new born and 9 year old. I have no idea of what I can do from home. Please if anyone can help me?? Thank you so much!

What can I do next?

Hi C.,

I had a home daycare for 5 years and I just "retired" from that. I was in the corporate sales world before kids. While it may not be the most glamorous job in the world...it certainly made ends meet for a while until my hubby got his feet off the ground in the job world. I charged $175 per week per child and if you get licensed (which I was...it's a process, but not hard at all) you'll get calls from potential clients. There's also a providers network once you become licensed to help you gain clients. 5 is the limit, so with your baby, you could take 4 more (your school-age kids don't count), which translates to $700 per week! If you are interested in hearing more feel free to email me. It was nice working from home and being with my kids as babies...it was the only way I could stay home. It's definitely not for everyone, but if you're good with babies/toddlers, it's an immediate income!!

As far as direct sales goes....I am also a lia sophia consultant for extra income. If you like jewelry, this is the way to go! You get a ton for yourself, and the parties are a blast!!! You can email me regarding that as well if interested! Best of luck in whatever you choose to do. You are certainly not alone in this dilemma, we struggled for years. Your husband will pull through for you financially....he'll find a way to make things work....but you may need to help him for now....childcare is always needed.

Well, I would try to get professional help for your husband FIRST AND FOREMOST!

Than, I would look into the option of maybe trying to do the real estate thing from home. Or maybe you can see about getting licensed to babysit and take in a few kids and that way you will be home with your kids and still making money.

I hope things work out for you soon!
WAIT UPON THE LORD! I know that is hard to do everytime the mail(person) comes and the phone rings. But, He will help those who rely on HIM.

Hi C.,

I am sorry to hear about what you are going through. I, too, am in direct sales like some of the others who responded. I love what I do and I do very well. I've been in direct sales for nearly 4 years now. I earn a great income, usually $1,000 - $5,000 per month and work only 5 - 15 hours per week.

What I love most about my business is that I get to set my own hours, work when I want and I can still be there for my children while contributing to our family income. I also love the products that I sell and have a lot of fun while I work. In addition to the income I get great perks such as a terrific product discount, free products and other gifts, and exotic trips (I've been to Ireland, Cancun and Aruba).

If you do consider direct sales, I'd suggest that you first decide whether you are willing to leave your home 1 - 3 nights a week and have your husband or someone else watch your kids. You can do direct selling without home parties but if you're interested in building a business and making great money, the home parties are essential. You can also do the parties during the day, but most likely they will take place at night or on the weekends. Also, do you have time and more importantly, the motivation, to do what is necessary at home after the party. It may not be a lot of work or require a huge time commitment, but it does need to be done. Phone calls, in particular, are very important in direct selling. To be successful, you'll want to talk to your upcoming party hosts, potential team members, existing team members once you start to build a team, customers to get re-orders and more parties.

One of the best things about direct selling is the flexibility and being able to work when you want and as much as you want. But the key is that you have to work! And you really need to be self-motivated.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and good luck!!

Unfortunately, it's very hard to obtain a work at home job unless you know someone legit or have already worked a job and they decided to let you do it from home...Why don't you just try to work on weekends anywhere if your husband or someone else can watch them while you work....Not much money I know, but it's something for now until your kids get to a more "affordable" child care age.

Is it possible for your husband to get another PT job in the evening or weekend (whenever it is his typical time off)? Can you sell some things you haven't needed or used? What about cars?...if you currently carry payments, can you downscale and drive something without a payment or a reduced payment? Same with your home....as depressing as it sounds maybe you could downsize (at least yor payment!)and live somewhere more affordable for you for the time being? How about reducing other payments such as cable, more affordable cell phone plan, eliminate gym memberships, etc....

We have been in the same situation....my husband now works PT jobs in addition to his FT one just to keep me home with the kids... Hang in there and you will sort it out with whatever works for you and your family. Congrats on your new baby.... staying home with her is the best thing! You will not regret it!

There are many direct sales businesses that you can research if that is something you would like to do. I am a Stampin' Up! demonstrator (rubber stamps/scrapbooking/papercrafting). There are many more out there, too. Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Avon, etc. There are also other jobs that are Work from home. Transcribing, etc.

Good luck with your decisions and with your family!

Hugs!

I sell Pampered Chef, it has a very low start up cost and the best thing is you can use everything in your kit! I cook all the time with my PC equipment. In our group there are Moms that do this Full Time and make a full time pay or people like me that are part time. It is easy, you don't even have to cook at the demonstrations anymore!!! The host and guest do the work while you explain what tools they are using.

I have tried Mary Kay, lots of product to order and it expires! lots of wasted $
I have tried Discovery Toys, that one was not too bad as I have alot of toys to play with my little one with. It also was a low start up cost, I just couldn't run with it as much as Pampered Chef. My cousin is making a good living with Discovery Toys though!

There is alot to choose from. Let me know if you are interested in Pampered Chef, here is my website http://www.pamperedchef.biz/johnnaspage
I will be happy to answer any questions even if you choose not to sell Pampered Chef!
Good Luck

I can relate fully. I have a 3 ½ year old and an 8 ½ month old. After I had my second son it was not affordable for me to go back to my job. My husband and I were looking into opening a family business (franchise), but that would have had me working longer hours with a baby on my hip. I did a lot of praying and was getting ready to pay the $50k franchise fee. That same day my husband called and said get a baby sitter there is a business opportunity we need to see. That night we went to a meeting and our prayers were answered. We were introduced to a new business opportunity were eBay pays us (I had never shopped on eBay before). After seeing what we did we got into the business right away. I have posted this opportunity on Mamasource business reviews please check it out or you can go to www.mymarketinggenie.com/K.. If you have any questions please feel free to call me. My cell number is ###-###-####.I am now in business for myself but not by myself. My husband and I have taken a leadership role with our business and have Thursdays night meeting(7pm) at our home for anyone who wants more information. Not sure how you feel about the at home business thing, but... I'm an AVON rep and I'm finding it's a great way to add to the family income. It only cost $10 to start and is very resonable when it come to products you need to purchase to keep your biz going (ie books, bags, samples) If you'd like more info please let me know!
Wishing the best for you and your family!

Hi C.,
I understand....I tried going back to work when the kids were 4 & 6. It was a nightmare. I was a Registered Medical Technologist (lab working shifts, holidays and weekends, with a husband gone a lot (military-enlisted) and no friends or family nearby. I started a Mary Kay business to be more home-centered but still bring in much-needed income. Within 4 months I replaced my fulltime hospital pay with less than 12 hours party-time per week; and got out of the stressful, expensive daycare routine. Still loving it 28 years later... In the last 2 years, my husband lost his job (company buyout), one adult daughter lost her job (real-estate associated title research) and my son-in-law was in real estate and had no paycheck for nearly a year (they have a one year old who is still nursing and a three year old.... and I have kept everyone (houses etc) afloat with my income. (Thank goodness for consumable products and customer loyalty)I know there are other work-from-home businesses out there that also reputable, but I prefer a consumable product with a strong track record, with hands-on/on-going education, no quotas or territories and no multi-level marketing plan; with the highest commission paid among all direct sales. This was certainly an answer to prayer for our family - I have earned 13 Cadillacs with 80% of the insurance paid for hubby and me. This is not a pitch for me - in fact if you have a close friend in MK - talk to her... if not, you can contact me for more info. Its not for everyone, but if you like people and are friendly, not pushy, but willing to show up and learn... it could be for you. Just calculate it all out before you are tempted to go punch a clock somewhere - the daycare, gas, higher tax bracket, clothes and lunch expenses eat up your pay and you have to let someone else pretty much raise your kids. One more thing... don't forget to pray for wisdom in your decision!
Blessings
