Hi! I have a huge question I have 3 year old twins and earlier today they both have been passing black stools. I called the doc and got no call back. There diets haven't changed. I am worried. My son ate play doh like 3 days ago and I know it wasn't from that cause the play doh he ate was white. What can I do.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Doc called back taking them to er they said due to there prematurety that it could be caused from dry blood or a hurnia. I'm sorry I forgot to say that they were born premature and that my lil girl has a birth defect called gastroschisis

Take them to the Doctor or ER.
They can do a stool test....
You won't know what is going on, unless a Doctor diagnoses them.

They say that black stools, are not good. But it can also be from minor things...

In agreeance with SH I did a quick search myself and it seems your options are something really trivial like took an iron supplement or ate something as previously suggested by others or something really not so fun that needs urgent diagnosis ... I would say a trip to the "doc in the box" or urgent care clinic is appropriate at this time.

If it is both of them that this just all of a sudden happened to, I would believe it is most likely smething they ate.
Try calling your dr again.

did you give them some funky kind of kool-aid or anything like that? that is my first thought. Seems like if they both are having that it must be something they ate or drank......

Do they take vitamins? Sometimes that's it.

Have either of them had peptobismal or tums lately? Both can create black stools (as well as black tongues if they don't eat afterward), but Pepto is notorious for it. If so.. totally harmless.

If your doc doesn't call you back call the 24/7 nurses line through your local hospital. They'll be able to run down the list of symptoms and tell you whether you need to make an appointment with your doc sometime this week, see you doc first thing in the morning, or go to the ER now.

You MUST call the doctor back and tell them you want to hear from them in the next few minutes!

Did they eat black icing? Chocolate? Cookies? Take an iron pill or a new vitamin? It's really odd that they're both experiencing this.
