Macaroni Salad Using Miracle Whip Recipe

My MIL passed away a year ago. For over 40 years, she always made this macaroni salad using Miracle Whip. We are going to visit my FIL this weekend and I'd like to make him the salad. My FIL said that this was a common salad that people mostly ate at potlucks during the 60's and 70's. He tried to make the salad, but it didn't turn out right. None of us knows exactly what was in it other than the elbow mac and MW, since it was mostly eaten by my MIL and FIL. I have been searching many recipes online, but most call for mayo, not Miracle. Does anyone have a recipe they can share?

Thanks:)

I Googled "Miracle Whip Macaroni Salad" and came up with about a billion recipes. Browse them and see which one looks right. I like recipes.com., they are easy to browse. Good luck!

I have a recipe like this that I make for Thanksgiving. Everybody loves it, and it's been around for a long, long time.

7 oz box of ring macaroni or elbow cooked and cooled

1C onions cut fine
1C celery cut fine
1C pickles (sweet midgets/small jar) sliced
3 slices velveeta cheese cut in small chunks
7 hard boiled eggs chopped up
(Mix all these in large bowl)

Then in another bowl make the dressing:
1 TBSP yellow mustard
3 C miracle whip
1/3 C sugar
juice off of the pickles (1/2 cup)

Pour over the bowl of macaroni and veggies and mix
(You can also use this dressing on potato salad.)

Miracle Whip is owned by Kraft, so check the Kraft website: www.kraftrecipes.com. Searching by ingredients (MW, pasta) might be quicker than a generic "macaroni salad" search because you'll also get recipes with mayo or salad dressing. Good luck!

Whenever my mom made macaroni salad, she also included relish, which I didn't see in any of the other recipe suggestions you received. It was also a very distinct flavor. It will add a little sweetness, so you shouldn't have to add sugar to the recipe. MW is already a little sweeter than mayo.

Good morning my darling, my grandmother was born in 1919. Her is her recipe which she used Miracle Whip for macaroni salad.

Boil macaroni according to box. Drain, then fold in
Onion to taste
Mustard- 1 tablespoon
Let macaroni cool and absord ingredients

Stir in:
Sugar- 1-2 tablespoon
Apple- peeled and diced
Miracle whip - depends on the amount of macaroni,
Sandwich spread- BAMA is the best, depends on the amount of macaroni
Boiled Eggs- depends on the amount of macaroni
Pimento's - chopped

In 1995 my mother gave me as Mother's Day present a book of recipes. Your question gave me the opportunity to look back. Thank you. For in the book there are familiar and unfamiliar dishes, some that was given special touches of love by my grandmother and some thrown together by my mother. So, I aint your mother but I would be proud of you for thinking of those who still remain her on Earth. Have a safe trip! Love always and forever, Mrs. R.

I know my mom always made it with Miracle Whip. She hated Mayo. Her's had (and I never saw her measure anything):

Elbow Macaroni
Onion (small chop)
Green Pepper (small chop)
Pimento (small jar of chopped)
Hard Boiled Eggs
Cubed Cheddar Cheese
Miracle Whip

I would just make the salad with what you remember being in it (or what you FIL remembers being in it) and add a bit of each ingredient until it tastes similar.

I probably have the plainest, simplest recipe out there. It is something my aunt always made at family get togethers since I was a kid, and I have continued to make it myself over the years.

One box of cooked elbow macaroni
1 diced green pepper
1-2 carrots, shredded
About 3/4 of the jar of Miracle Whip

Always make it ahead of time, it tastes so much better when its been chilling in the fridge overnight than if you make it & eat it right away.
