Hello Moms! I'm new to the area, and I'm having a hard time finding a pediatrician. We have a 4 1/2 mo whos healthy girl, but will need to get shots sooner than later. I'd like to see someone who might be a little more open minded to natural medicine, but its not a must. We're on Austin St in Rego Park, so something closer than further would be ideal. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you ladies!

So What Happened?

Hey ladies! thank you so much for all your help! I ended up taking Lucy's advice and went to see Dr Eden - come to find out, my little girl was very under weight. Our last dr back in Buffalo, never said anything about it. I knew she was small, but didn't really think much of it b/c hubby and I aren't big people. Anyway, Dr Eden basiclly said 'You've been starving this poor baby!"So now we are supplementing w/ formula - I hate having to do that - however we are still breastfeeding! When he asked what her diet was, and I said only breast milk he did say 'Good girl!' unfortunately thats just not enough for her. We go back in a week and 1/2 to see how much shes gained. I feel awful that I as a mom can't provide for all that she needs, however, I am glad that he is still supportive, and that we were told that somethings not right, and we're fixing it now! Thanks again for your help!

I also take my children to Forest Hills pediatrics for much of the same reasons below. I really like all the doctors there and particularly love my children's pediatrician.

A lot of parents in Forest Hills & the surrounding area go to Forest Hills Pediatrics which is the only group practice in the area that I know about. The main advantage of them is that they are open 7 days a week from approx 8 am - 6 pm and if case of urgent situations there is always someone available. A dr will meet with you no charge if you are considering them as a pediatrician (although you would only meet one of the 6 or so drs that work there). I have been a little frustrated with the practice lately because they have failed to return a couple of my phone calls, but we still go there because of the convenience and hours. I take my son to a specialist for his asthma & food allergies.
I have heard they are not very open to alternative schedules for shots (i.e. delaying shots). More than one dr there recommended acidophilus to treat diarrhea caused by antibiotics (for ear infection) - if you consider than natural medicine.

There is a Forest Hills parents listserve (includes surrounding area) which has much more local info - e email me if you want that info.
Mamasource is broad geographically, it includes NJ.
You are close to Music for Aardvarks on Queens Blvd at Jorday Dance Studio - several parents on the listserve raved about those music classes for babies & toddlers, just fyi.

My pediatrician is Dr Alvin Eden, on Queens Blvd and 108 Street. He's a hop and a skip from Austin Street (5 min walk!) :) If you walk to 71st and go to Queens Blvd, cross the street, it's that big corner building with the train station right in front. You can't miss it. You can call his office

He has authored books on Positive Parenting, Healthy Children and is the Chief Of Pediatrics at the Wycoff Hospital. He is affiliated with both LIJ and Wycoff. Great guy! :) I have 4 kids under age 9 and all 4 went to him. He's not big on prescriptions unless absolutely necessary, very pro-breastfeeding and very open to discuss anything with you.

Here is a review I just read on him that describes him to a tee! :)

I live right near you- we are on wetherole! We love our pediatrician. Her office is about 15-20 mintues away, but it's worth it. We see Dr. Lynn Cetin, but have also seen some of the other partners in that office and they are all nice. She is in ProHEALTH Plaza right near LIJ. From the Grand Central you take exit 25 (Marcus Ave) and then turn left at the light. After that you take turn left at the second light into ProHEALTH Plaza. It's a bit of a maze in there. At the first intersection you turn right, and then the building is on the right, past the pond. I have never had a problem getting in to see them and the staff is really nice too. The office is clean and the waiting area is cute- some toys and stuff there. We don't have to wait forever to get in there either.
