My 5 yr old son fits the discription of ODD almost to a T. I have talked to the insurance co and they do not cover ANY behavioral issues.

What can I do next?

You might try MHMR for help! They are able to cover many things that issurance will not.

Wish you the best!

You might want to ask your school counselor about resources and information (possibly even on-line support groups). When I worked in PISD, we had some children who were identified as presenting with ODD. If the regular elementary schools do not enough information, try calling the PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities) center(s) for your district. They deal with a variety of special needs, and may be able to lead you in a beneficial direction.

Your child is so fortunate that you are making such a great effort to help him.

Hey J., I was diagnosed as odd as a child and my stepson (10) has been diagnosed with it as well, it is definately a challenge to deal with. This past year he got sent to an alternative school for 2 months, that helped some. He is on medicaid and they paid for it all, do you qualify for medicaid? Alot of people look down on it but has been a life saver for us. both because of Jaleb's issues and because i just recently finished a high rick pregancy... but anyways you should look into it it covers all behavioral issues... if you ever just need someone who's been there to talk to I hope you'll give me a call....###-###-####

My step son had the same issues and we found Dr. Ray Levy. He was wonderful. We haven't had many problems since. I am not sure if they will be able to work anything out, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. Dr. Levy wrote a book that helped significantly called "Try and Make Me". That book was a life saver. It outlines the behavior and give strategies for handling situations. I wish you all the best. I know it can be frustrating and stressful. Know that there is help and a light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck.
